    I once received a design requirement from a client that was clearly generated by AI. The text was complete nonsense, and I felt very disrespected. As a result, I returned his deposit. I didn’t want to deal with such rubbish, and I believed it wasn’t worth my time. I do think that relying on AI can cause people to lose some of their humanity.

      For coding I also found AI quite useful (if you know what to do with the generated code of course) - as a very low-skilled developer I can actually use it to get close to a desired result and it's a very binary outcome - either works or it doesn't. Easy to test.

    Great take on AI in general, but you raised a more important point - what do we as designers have to offer, when the power goes off? Do any of us have skills that can be used without the ability to power something on? I urge everyone to unplug more often and work on skills that can be done offline. It may be related to your current job, but it would be better to branch out and learn skills that can help your survive.

    I agree, and I liked the metaphor. But I have a question: What is your definition of quality? And in the corporative world, where you don't have so much governance of the craft, is really a quality a differentiator at the end of the day for most products?

    • @MalewiczHype
      @MalewiczHype  3 месяца назад +1

      There is an approach in some orgs to take "good enough quality" but it almost always eventually backfires. And what I mean by quality is not one specific "level" of it. It's a construct that will change overtime - what I mean is the "acceptable" quality will get lower and lower the more people get lazy.

    100% on point, we should use AI to compliment our workflow, not rely on it to do everything. Just like you said we can use escalator to climb even faster, but we still need to do our work. I think AI is great for creating moodboards, maybe even some images that we can then refine in photoshop. For copy it's mostly crap in my opinion. It's really generic and after seeing it few times you get the gist when something is AI written which is a big no for me... Whole point of being designer is to have skill of developing empathy for different users and tackle problems from their perspective. AI doesn't have empathy. It's like really really smart sociopath that is learning from human behaviour but it will never be able to truly empathise with the users...

It's good for text placeholders, now I dont have to use "lorem ipsum" i can just ask chatgpt to generate dummy text that fits the context better, but 9/10 times AI is useless. Once you go deeper than "generate me some basic stuff" chatgpt just starts hallucinating doing things that he wasn't asked to, just bashing its head into a wall.
    I can't count how many times I tried to use chatgpt to be faster, but it did such a terrible job even for lets say project description in my portfolio that I just told it that in that amount of time I wasted trying to get the results I could have just done it myself.

Or rather, average quality of work done by people is mediocre, and easy to surpass. So I dont know, at least articles are readable now 😆 I will also add that you can compare AI to calculator, we all don't care about manual multiplication, division etc. We do it quickly on calculator and use outcomes for better things. The same with AI, it is so revolutionary that I use it every day. It can help with makin not obvious connections, pushes creativity, unlocks unusual possibilities. I couldn't agree more on this. I was worried about this AI thing a while ago and was very unpleasantly surprised by the opinions of some people whom I used to look up to, as they said that AI would help the mankind. In my opinion what it actually does is make people unlearn how to think, and create. They want people to become stupid, unable of analytical thinking. As for me, I use AI just to get some ideas when I have difficulty to start smth. And definitely not for research, I don't trust the AI generated results, so it's easier for me to use trustworthy resources from the very beginning. This whole situation is sad, I support technologies that make people free from some household chores, so that they have more time to create, but AI actually robs people of that. And same goes for VR, I wish people would experience the real world more.
