The next design tool is scary

  • Ok we have to talk! There are changes going on and most people are totally unaware!
    Design tools are going in a direction that's harmful for both designers and the entire industry. It's time to talk about how they're training AI models on your work, how they believe they OWN your work and what you can do to protect yourself.
    If you're an artist, designer or a mix of both pay attention. Otherwise a year or two from now you may be quite unplesantly surprised.

    Framer will not export code, never. I was on the beta. there was a feature in development about it. and they did not continued on it. in other words. it's technically possible for them to do it. but they prefer to lose clients for other tools that can do that in the future. so, shame on them.
    Fun fact. Framer was just a prototype tool. like Figma, or Penpot. I truly believe that in the near future. even Penpot will be a no-code tool like Framer is today. Penpot code exporting is absolutely great already. I can almost build a site just with the HTML/CSS they produce.

    I sincerely hope for a large-scale adoption of tools like Penpot. With a strong community, the expansion of its features will be accelerated.

    I think the part we’re not talking about is when you’re working for a company, you don’t have a choice what products you get to use. Adobe and Figma are favored by corporations because they get special packages, which then to work at these companies you need to know these software. So to be hirable you have to know the software they’re using. Until these companies are willing to go a different direction, these companies (Figma, Adobe) will have all the power and say.

    We need to see this for what it is. Nearly everything about what it means to "design" is quickly transforming. This genie is not going back in the bottle. Denial and anger are typically the first stages in a major transition like this.

      I’m not convinced AI is going to radically change design tools, and the legality of training on everyone’s data is being disputed in so many court cases. It’s still pretty uncertain where this will land. Also, by their nature, LLMs and other AI is always backwards looking due to being trained on historical data. I’d be shocked if designers don’t have a viable and vibrant future. I do agree with the video though - we need to be incredibly careful what we agree to and allow.

    I think it's good to point out that people become very cult-like about their tools and the providers of those tools. Like, a shovel is just a shovel, Photoshop is just an app, and Adobe, Figma - are corporations. Why people treat them like an organized religion has always been annoying to me. Stop it with this brand loyalty shit, use what you need to use. They are just tools, but you shouldn't be a corporation's tool. You shouldn't be used by what you buy and you should own your tools and have the right to do what you want with them within reason, common sense, and lawfulness. We all know what those are if we talk about them. Stop letting these corporations babysit your data and attention like a nanny-state - they are not your overlords!

      I don't agree completely. I run a small, 2 person software business. Of all the solutions available, Figma was the best fit for us by a long shot at the time. We've invested a lot of our most valuable asset, time, into the product. Taking all of our design system and assets out of this is not as simple as just you guys are trivialising it to be.

    • @matt-james-c
      @matt-james-c 2 месяца назад

      Also on PenPot. I really wanted it to work for us. I spent months investing in our systems and assets on this before Figma only to find out completely shat the bed when it comes to performance. It's not as simple as saying, go get another tool. The vast amounts of capital that have gone into apps like Figma don't count for nothing. Whilst it's an absolute shame, and no surprise that big companies like Figma and Adobe are screwing their users, it's still a very significant cost for small businesses to move away from.

  • @herrDOS
    @herrDOS 2 месяца назад

    They are likely trying to tap into the non-professional audience. There’re only so many artists on the planet, and using their tools requires a trained specialist. Training an artist or an architect takes many years, so they always have a revenue cap. If, however, these companies somehow manage to offer their services to a wider audience through integrating generative AI, that might mean doubling or tripling the revenue stream. Who wouldn’t want to make 2-10-20 times more money from the same product with minimal alterations?

  • @jarmel3745
    @jarmel3745 3 месяца назад +1

    Thing is that there are lot of tutorials and lessons how to do design with Figma or Adobe products and that makes this tools kind of only choice for beginners. • @MalewiczHype

      The thing about Webflow is you can only export static websites, so the code export option is not all that useful for client projects.
