Coin Shop Owner's HONEST Opinion on Using Silver for Barter
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 4 окт 2024
- In this video I talk with a coin shop owner about using silver for barter. When it comes to silver stacking and investing in silver to use it for potential barter the best silver to buy is junk silver. Junk silver is fractional and recognizable so it is the best option when it comes to bartering. Other types of silver could potentially be used for barter as well such as silver rounds, silver coins, and silver bars. My local coin shop owner Harry, has an unpopular opinion on silver and if it will be used for barter or not. He also talks about the most popular precious metals in the shop right now and the top silver and gold items right now. If you want to invest in silver or purchase physical silver bullion then this is the video for you.

Harry is such a genuine business owner. We trust him 200%. He's such a respectful person.
HARRY IS HONORABLE
Reminds me of Psalm 1.
He literally is. You can hear it in his voice. I'd trust him all day long. They both are awesome humans.
High Fives!
I never plan on bartering silver for goods. I stack (just started) because of the video I saw of this guy in this video showing a silver quarter and saying it bought a gallon of gas back on 1964 and it would still buy a gallon of gas today because of the silver value rising with inflation.
just like an ounce of gold would buy you a tailored suit in 1920. and it will still buy you a tailored suit today.
These are honest, trustworthy men.
I appreciate the store owner's reply. I hope it never gets to that point because if it does it will be an unimaginably horrific situation.
We should be heavily involved in WW3 by the end of the year. If the US falls to communism, you can at least take your precious metals and go to another country to trade them for their currency.
Most people don't seem to get that. They keep boasting about how much silver they'll have if shtf while seeming to leave out the full impact of what exactly that would mean. I don't see people with huge stashes living very long when someone figures out they always have some to spend.
Three scenarios:
Decline slows and stops: digital, real estate, metals, defense gear, etc.
Major decline (like a 3rd world country): metals, defense gear, etc.
Apocalyptic decline: defense gear, water, food, force.
Hoping and being wrong could get you and your entire family killed of starvation. Instead be prepared.
@@syberphish The idea is to use the precious metals AFTER shtf, in the reconstruction. You should be using your other metals to get you through SHTF, you know, your lead/brass combos and your aluminum/tin food storage devices. You're right though... you'll want to be judicious in your spending during shtf. If there's government rations, I'll be in line every time for them so people don't think I'm stacked. And you also have to consume as if you're on rations. You're belt needs to get tighter just like everyone else.
Glad he clarified that it's always the best buy at 1oz no matter the price of gold. Stellar advice! Thank you!!!
A currency reset would disprove this theory, as it would wipe out many bank accounts overnight and spike the dollar denomonated price of gold to a level where the pool of potential buyers would become very small. People who stack as a hedge against calamity should diversify into at least some fractional gold. Selling peer to peer will always recover at least some of your premium, and if you hold for a significant period of time inflation and the reevalution of the currency will negate all concerns about premium loss anyways. If the market for fractional is crazy right now, and it is, why wouldn't that same demand spike as we enter a full collapse and faith in the system?
@@joshspeed7794💯
Of course, it is . 1oz is always the best way to go .How many people really have 2,000 for a oz of gold. I buy gold . I buy them one tenth of an ounce I also buy gram forms. I know i'm paying more. But in a barter situation one gram is a lot better than 1ounceofgold
Why not just trade 3 silver coins instead of worrying about grams of gold?
Back around 1980 when silver was $50. an ounce there was a great demand for it. Hardware stores and grocery store ads came out with the regular price in dollars and next to it was a silver price. Groceries and other items could be purchased with 90% silver coins. Also there were dealers set up in motel rooms advertised as buying silver.
Those times are coming back.
The full blown apocalypse would have to happen for something like this to happen, and at that point people will want to barter for directly useful goods, not for something useless like silver or gold (useless given the scenario). Better off to barter with copper. Or raising livestock.
Listen bro silver eagles are legal tender technically speaking so
I got a question: What do we do with our G&S AFTER they sock us into a digital currency?
When needed sell some for digital. Buy things with it outside of the digital market. G&S has always been money, always will be. It is recognized all over the world. You can take a gold eagle anywhere in the world and you someone will give you money or services for it. Digital or otherwise. Going digital will likely cause the value of metals to go up. Because many will want to transact outside of the digital world. @@douglascarlson9006
I RESPECT Harry and his co-heart's honesty.
Harry always tells the truth even if it's not what folks like to hear and he always says it gently and smartly. There is a reason i go there weekly for my stuff. These guys are great.
I wish i were closer, Harry's shop looks top notch. 5 stars!
I've always tried pointing out that silver is better for bartering than gold. Thanks for pointing it out!
It will keep you alive.
If the dollar collapses what is going to determine the value of your metal? You can't say it's worth $28. an once when a dollar becomes $0.
I can't eat your gold or silver so there's no amount of gold or silver that I would be willing to trade a chicken for. If I need 2 gallons of fuel to get to the store, what would you rather have, a pound of bacon, 2 rolls of toilet paper, and 10 - .22 LR bullets, or a 1965 half dollar?
stacking is like any other kind of investing. If you don't already have all those things like food and ammo then you have no business investing. I live in a state that already recognizes silver as real currency hense my statement. is it easier to buy gas with a $30 bill or $2000 bill and get change ?
@@fauxque5057 The dollar won't quite be worth zero. It will always have some value (example 25 cents on the dollar of what it was worth last week). Therefore, metals will rise in price in the currency dollar 50 or 100X + depending on how many people want it to exchange for barter. It will always be able to purchase the same value or maybe even more in this SHTF situation. I would choose 1oz silver rounds for barter of food and gasoline and 10 to 100 oz bars combined for the bigger things like a vehicle or house.
@@fauxque5057if it's jiat the dollar. Gold is gold it retains its value. Goto another country whichever currency has turned dominant and exchange your value there.
Bartering is going on now. Last summer I purchased items from a fruit/vegetable stand every couple weeks. They were more than happy to accept junk silver.
Absolutely, when the cash has no value left, you better pray you ignored his comment and stocked up on metals to live.
Big time! Off-grid types have been bartering junk silver for years.
What do you mean by junk silver?
@@taraelizabethdensley9475 “Junk silver coins are circulated 90% US silver coins, minted prior to 1965 that are referred to as “junk” because they contain no collectible or numismatic value. Instead, junk silver coins are bought and sold purely for their silver content.”
@@taraelizabethdensley9475 Junk silver is silver. Make them barter at silver bullion prices NOT FACE VALUE LIKE THE BANKS ROB YOU.
I agree that we don't want to ever get to a point where we "have to" use silver or gold because our fiat has collapsed. However, we can choose to accept gold or silver as payment right now.
Harry seems so sincere, and so kind.
If he were the opposite of those things he wouldn't go well on camera, nor would anyone want to purchase from him.
What's funny, is that some store owners have never figured that out.
The problem is, what if he's wrong??? He sure was a nice fellow and sounded so sweet, but now I don't have the metals I needed to stay alive based on his comments in a SHTF situation.

Impossible not to like these guys! If I lived closer, I would definitely be a client👍
Saw a video some time ago about how people in Venezuela were handling their financial crisis.
It boils down to: No one is using paper money for day to day purchases if he can avoid it, because it's impractical running around with huge stacks of worthless money. Also no one is buying food with silver or gold, because it would be too dangerous for the customer and shop owner.
So basically people are using credit- and prepaid cards.
American business AT ITS BEST. Way to go guys. Amazing!!!
Can't wait for Harry to have an online shop! Would absolutely love to support his business
13. States are using gold and silver as currency.
SD I LOVE THEIR HONESTY THATS ALL THAT COUNTS EXCEPT A FIRM HANDSHAKE FIND OUT NEXT VISIT LOL THANK YOU SIR
Love seeing the honesty of this dealer. I'm old school and believe in being prepared but let's be honest, I've been hearing people talk about the SHTF "very soon" for over 40 years now, it kinda loses credibility eventually.
So many people lost half of their 401k’s a few years ago. We have never experienced a worse job market and our purchasing power sucks. We will never get out of this debt and even the American dream 2.0, “Get into massive debt to earn a degree and pay it off over 10 years at the nice job you land after college.” Even that is a false reality for most young people.
You’re right, sh*t has not hit the fan..but it is rotting away.
The already have 23 states that have voted to have silver and gold as legal tender. Not sure how they will do it but it's happening.
Sounds like a smart move, considering the way things are going.
In France they have gold coins which are sold st face but are not in general use.
For example a 250 euro French coin for the next years olympic games os available at post offices for 250 euros.
It weighs 2.5g
This is the only problem as not long ago a 250 euro gold coin was 3.0g’
What a humble and well grounded gentlemen, I absolutely loved listening to this man.
Adrian and. Harry Store thank you silver dragon
Good shop. Gave his opinion and wasn’t fear mongering like many of the other RUclips interviews
I agree 100%, bartering is a stupid idea. There are very few stackers compared to the non stackers. We will definitely never use silver at a store. That would be impossible, because the value changes every minute, the prices in the store would be changing with the silver value, and the cashier would not have any change to give you, and would not know how much change to give you.I like these guys, they seem very honest.
The problem is, what if he's wrong??? He sure was a nice fellow and sounded so sweet, but now I don't have the metals I needed to stay alive based on his comments in a SHTF situation. I can see it now.
To be fair most stores don't even accept $100 dollar bills.
But barter is a hustle, is one bag of rice really worth $20 and a name brand worth $40? No they're both just rice.
In barter times you'll have the same situation is the bag of rice one silver coin or two? Just like today you'll need to be smart or generous with your spending.
It's interesting to think about the bars vs. coins discussion.
On one hand, there's the psychological aspect of them looking like silver coins and thus representing silver as money, where as bars look more industrial.
On the other hand, rectangular bars by nature take up less room to stack. So if you are stacking a considerable amount and are thinking about safe space, bars may make the most sense.
Yeah but coins would be much easier to use for bartering purposes because they are smaller portions also coins have a different value
because of the images on them
If I had a 1 G piece of silver and then a one gram silver coin that looked really cool well the coin that looks cool would be worth more
bartering fantasies are for fools.@@BlazRa
I also think the need to have PM to barter is unlikely in the US but it's a distinct possibility. Venezuela proved, recently, that a once thriving economy can be reduced to barter and silver was widely used by the Venezuelans until very recently.
An they wished they had metals to sell to save what they worked hard for
The US black market will take gold & silver all day long
Love these interviews with Harry-
Again...so great to see an honest man. Giving advice that's not necessarily good for his own business
I really appreciate talking with Harry, and his staff. Thank you so much for the honest post. I’m buying for fun and to leave some silver and gold to my grandkids. (If your reading this Harry, I’m the guy that showed you the photos of my family’s lamb roasts. And I’ll see you soon for more treasure!)
I prefer rounds because they are easier to test plus if I was going to sell it or barter with it ever someone would be more comfortable with a round. I do want those big stacker bars though
That man (Harry) seems like a nice man. I would love to do business with him than to do business with some of the other coin shop owners out there.

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE ENTIRE SHOP FOR THEIR FINE WORK AND THANK YOU, SILVER DRAGON-DOOD!!!! YOU ROXX MY SOXX!!!!! 👍
SHTF I think has different categories. Apocalyptic vs economic/infrastructure collapse. If the latter happens I think cash will still be king but could be supplemented with silver. However, a very small percentage of people are knowledgeable on PMs let alone junk silver. I think a layman would be more accepting of a coin/round that has .999 fine silver and the weight on it compared to a 1964 Kennedy half dollar.
Sic Argento Libertas 🧐
Laymen will be eaten alive during SHTF.
It’s why I’ve never stacked for that reason. There would be so much violence... Metals would only be valued after the fact. Stack lead and food and water if you are a SHTF stacker.
I appreciate his honesty. I stack silver because it satisfies my urge to buy stuff and it's shiny. Also someday in the future if I find myself in need of money there is a halfway decent chance I can sell it for more than I bought it for. Which is not the case with most of the things most of us buy.
Dammit we need a Harry's in Texas

Recently I’ve been investing more in lead than silver. Price on ammo has come down a lot. It’s better for barter than silver too.

So happy for them and pray for much success. Great of you to lift them up dragons!
I was reading a thread about sharpening chainsaws at the AR-15 forum. (They banned me, so could not chip in with my 2 cents.) A high percentage of people responding to it just bought new chains and trashed the old chain. They trash the chain because they couldn't figure out how to do a good job sharpening it. You know, in SHTF you may not be able to afford that luxury. Chains may be unavailable, so better learn how to sharpen one.
If you want a good chainsaw sharpener, get the little Oregon 12v grinder. About $30. Then all you need is a flat file and guide for the depth gauges on the chain. The grinder with angle guide will do an excellent job on the teeth. I had used round files on the teeth for decades, but got sick of it. Takes forever and it can't compare to the precise cut you get with the grinder. Even if you use the $40 file guides by Stihl...it can't compare to the grinder. Really the Stihl file guide is a joke compared to the grinder.
If you got $$, Oregon makes a bench chainsaw grinder that is outstanding. But it is over $220. Nice thing about the $30 12v grinder is you can use in the field with the supplied battery clamps. I use at home off my backup 12 battery or a 12v / 110v adapter. You can get similar grinders in 110v too. Better learn the ropes on how to sharpen a chainsaw before it is too late.
Boy , that was so off topic......🙄🙄🙄 yawn
I enjoy listening to those guys. An an aura of honesty comes from their business.
Thank you SD
What a great video! Would love to visit Harry and Adrian!!!
I totally agree with Harry's opinion about barter. I bought silver and gold as an insurance policy against a devalued dollar and higher inflation that will only get worse when the US dollar stops being the world's reserve currency and our debt becomes a bigger problem. As a nation, we have not done enough to protect the dollar's status around the world and now face the high probability that the dollar stops being universally accepted as currency.
@@stevel6660 So all of those 1934 and 1935 Peace Dollars, and post '33 silver certificates that I have are fake??? Or are you one of "those people" that believe that The United States went bankrupt in 1933, or that fiat currency isn't real money?

You gotta respect an honest opinion and answer such as his. I too hope it never comes to that but a plan b for just in case gives a little more peace of mind. I still believe that metals is a good bet to store some wealth. I'm not saying go all in but I'm not saying not to either. I think each circumstance is different. I know my circumstance as a farmer I have to maintain capital to operate so I just have a portion of actual savings in metals. I'd like to have more than I do but agriculture operates on the dollar unfortunately. Great video as always and I got mad respect for those guys and their honesty and integrity. They're definitely good for the stacking community.
Well done to the shop owner for being honest, he's a good guy.

Nice three pleasant talented men. Would never pay $39 for a silver Eagle because of excessive high premiums. Adrian could sell me about just anything... his voice is smooth and trustworthy. I love this coin shop. Please do more internship videos and work for them!!
A lot of people don't know this @silver dragons, but the reason some people like the denomination coins is because of Customs. When you cross a border, at least in the USA, you have to declare any money exceeding $10,000.00. If you have a $1.00 denominated ounce of silver, that counts as $1.00, not the price/value of silver. Same with gold. If you have an ounce of gold that is denominated at $10.00, let's say, that counts as $10.00. So technically, you could cross the border with 75 ounces of gold denominated at $10.00 and not have to declare more than $10,000.00 even though the actual value of that gold might be $150,000.
in the UK we pay no capital gain tax on UK bullion and old "junk silver" UK pre 1920

Love the honesty! Gotta love the ones who keep it real!
When I was stacking my focus was on US mint 90% coins like dimes and half dollars, and Mexican 90% like 10 pesos crowns from the 1950s. I stacked the heck out of all those! And while I get the argument for 1 ounce gold, I focused on fractional gold. But I also focused on food, water, medicine, and daily supplies like that.
But people should do what they think makes the most sense for them.
Harry is right, IMO. I stack silver and gold as a hedge against inflation. I doubt we will come to the point where we need to use it to barter because our society has collapsed. At least, I sincerely hope not. If that does happen, what is really going to matter is your ability to provide food and clean drinking water for your family, as well as your ability to protect them.
NOBODY cares about gold or silver but stackers. A normal person doesn't see silver as valuable at all. Nobody has silverware anymore, it's just not something people want. You couldn't get $10 for a gold eagle on the street.
I have been looking into why people buy gold and/or silver.
(Besides just for a future financial investment).
So what they are thinking is that they may have to use it for trade.
Very good thinking, because we all know the currency here in the states is decreasing daily.
