  • Trying Different Configurations is part of the fun!
I tried going a different route by using a small motor it hopes to save weight.
This was just the first of many tests runs with the Hydra X8s esc and the TP Power 3686 2060kv Motor.
The Oxidean Marine Dominator is a beautiful platform to work with & insanely durable!

I always over power my boats and then run small props. My temps are never above 120* on anything even in summer. In winter I rarely see over 100

You "down graded" the motor, but 300A and 5200w is quite heafty i would say. Don't you have an other less "hot" motor laying around so you could test that just for numbers? I know my setup is different, but im bit baffled by the amps and watts you make and pull with not that big off a prop. I would guess the motor is the issue in this setup... A lighter boat does handle more nimble, thats for sure and better for a small pond. I noticed the difference when i upgraded to bigger electronics but also feel like the extra weight helps to run more stable at high speeds...

I just assume it's bc of the kv . I've seen KV tests on TP motors. A 2000kv was actually 2130 while testing. All were 4-7% higher kv than advertised. So maybe I have closer to a 2200kv motor. I was amazed by the Amp draw as well. Specs say 225 max amps on the motor. It was just the first run of many. I like to try what others don't. But might need the xlx2 for speed runs!

@@H2oMechanic2RC Here my theory... My previous setup 4082/2000kv/100A/3200W could pull same props without problems. Your tp is stated 2060kv is stated +/-230A/4500W so i asume you don't need the power and loose a lot of it in heat and it runs inefficiënt. Asumengly bigger esc (more weight) doesn't make motor run way cooler so therefore still limited in props.
Then compared to another motor, for instance 4092/2000kv/178A/4200W the specs come more close. The TP still has more power in theory, but i asume the 4092 (also heavier but better for cg) has more torque and can spin bigger props more easily and therefore will go faster with possibly less ampdraw. All my theory off course, but you have the ability to test that and also would be interesting...

The Castle Hydra X will cut at 308 amps. When your pushing the electronics that hard, even with a good water cooling setup you won't stop the temp spike. The data log is recording internal temps. Much higher readings than from a temp gun.

Castle did give me a warranty replacement. But it had a small fire as soon as I connected the lipo, (smoke then fire) . They sent me the small Rx plug that was what melted but a pin was heat affected and broke off, fortunately it was the red wire that used to run the cooling fan. But the other pins must be a bit affected as well or there is something wrong inside the esc because the on off switch is always on and a new switch was part of the rx loom. Sometimes the esc just don’t work and I wiggle the rx plug and away it goes. Anyway I told them about the problem a week ago after fitting the loom they sent and so far they don’t reply.
I hope they don’t read these comments they don’t know about the 308 amp peak.mind you
      It was only milliseconds long.
