I really like your idea of storing avocado's in water and am going to do this, but since there have been a lot of reports of listeria and salmenela getting into avocado's stored this way, and people getting very sick, I'm going to do it a little safer way by washing the avocado's with soap and vinegar or baking soda, and using boiled and cooled water, and adding to the water a little vinegar and salt. It seems it would be safe that way. It doesn't take long to boil a pot of wter and wash the avocado's, and those extra steps bring a little comfort. Who knows why bacteria gets into the water, but better to be safe until more information is available for this trend of storing avocado's.

I love your ideas. One thing I do with fresh greens. I do not wash them before I put in refrig I do wrap them tight in paper towel that put in a freezer back into crisper. No fail they last months. I do not know how or why but it works. I love those acrylic Milk containers I found mine at Burlington. Super space saver.

I tried your method for the lettuce & it works. Was so glad for the idea. I left my plastic on as well, but I'm not sure if that's how you did it or not. Thanks for your tips... great content.

Looks nice!!! With fruits in a jar - take a bowl of water put a couple glues of white vinegar toss in fruits soak 5-10 minutes drain and rinse place on towel absorb some of the water place in jars. I did a test and placed a jar in back of fridge and 1 year later firm & not any mold!! I’d never leave that long generally & there was a slight fermentation to them😁 but Hello they last for a Long Time!!😃

I am totally getting into my frig today and cleaning it out! You've motivated me!! I didn't know about the apples so I'm going to remove them and put then in my other frig that does not hold fruit. Great info and advice for helping preserve everything a little longer...plus it looks so aesthetically pleasing 🤩.

I have multiple projects going on. 😂 I going through my house and doing a declutter and tidy. (I like the idea of opening any cupboard or drawer and seeing everything thats there and being able to just grab and go, instead of having to move stuff out of the way first)
Im in the middle of scanning 20+ years of paperwork onto a memory stick.
I have a 6 car garage that i need to get cleared out so we can put our cars in there. A lot of work has been done in there, but theres still too much to park all the cars in there.
Im hoping i can get all that done by the end of the year.
Im also trying to build up our longer term food storage and develop a perpetual pantry.
Plenty on my plate to keep me out of trouble. 🤪😂

Hello, really quick question - does the ripeness of the avocados matter for storing them in the water and jar?

I'm going to try the tin foil for lettuce, my lettuce always wilts before I can finish it all but if this could work it would be so great.

Awesome tips Adeline, do you drink lots of milk? as they recommend you keep milk at the back of your fridge where it is coldest and will last longer, in the door temperature fluctuate more as you are opening and closing the fridge door. Love the containers though, I have never seen those before. 😁

The avocados in the jar, the apple tip, the lettuce in tin foil, woah the more you know. Ill be trying all of these. I also have a second refrigerator, so apples will go there from now on 😂

Is storing avocados in water safe? To be clear, the answer to this question is a definite NO - an opinion shared widely by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) after the avocado storage hack began trending on social media. It's not uncommon to find bacteria on the bumpy outer skin of an avocado….

What size of Zwilling containers did you use for your fresh bagged spinach? I'm trying to decide what size to buy so I don't go too big. I've been contemplating this for over a month now. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

My fridge is not very good and old. But all i do is take a kitchen tissue and moisten it slightly just flick some water with my finger tips on it wrap the lettuce and put in a plastic bag squeeze a little of the air out. It also lasts a month.

Storing avocados in water is dangerous. Just because someone who says they have been doing it hasn't had a bad experience yet, doesn't mean they won't. It also doesn't mean you won't. Food borne pathogens can be deadly, and if and when they befall your family, you will look back and wonder you ever thought the risks were worth it. I say this to say when we are watching these videos, we should take time to educate ourselves about the advice they offer. No shade on Adaline. I really enjoy the channel.

@candiceproctor9678 The outside of avocados are bumpy and prone to having pathogens like listeria and salmonella hiding in all those crevices. Storing them immersed in water like that not only creates an environment where any tiny bit you might not have gotten when trying to clean them to multiply and grow, but also the water can help them permeate the skin (where they might otherwise remain) and migrate into the actual interior of the fruit, further contaminating your food. It's better to buy what you need and store in the fridge to slow ripening, or cut, mash and freeze for extended storage (depending on how you plan to use it).
