    After watching several of your videos regarding these vintage Super Recyclers I got interested in purchasing one. I found one locally for $100.00. Mine may be older, it has the 6.5 Briggs, aluminum deck, and three speed console. Also electric start. Deck is perfect, not a scratch. I checked the oil and gas. Took off the bag and cut the grass for the last time. Didn't use the bag. Did a quickie oil change and put a bit of Stabil in the tank with some non ethanol fuel. Can't wait until spring to give it a full service and detailing. In one of your videos you said to grab one of these if you see one. So, I told the wife that it's totally your fault!!😁

    Thanks for the video!! I bought one of these 4 years ago used for $100 bucks. was about the same age as yours. intended on buying a new mower eventually but then I found out how great this thing was (and how I would have to spend a bundle to get anything comparable that is built today). came here because its not starting after sitting for the winter.
    if you see this - I was trying to figure out if I'm getting the full amount of power out of the self propel , and if theres anything I can do to check that out.

    Hey JB, great video! I've got that model and noticed that your brother in laws has the paper air filter, not the original oiled foam. I've read pros and cons of both. Which do you believe is better for the engine? I have no issues cleaning the foam with dawn and re-oiling. Do you think paper catches smaller particles, assuming theres no tear? Thanks!

    • @GarageGear
      @GarageGear  6 месяцев назад +1

      Hey Brad the paper filters are original. The oil filters are aftermarket. I avoid those oil filter because they can gum up carburetors. Mechanics see the same issues with throttle bodys and O2 censors. The paper ones work just fine.

The short hose going nowhere is the one leaking gas. Thanks.

      Hey Grady I’d have to see it in person but I’m guess the short tube is the breather tube that hooks onto the back of the air intake plate. I would clean your carb out and check everything inside. Usually that’s where the problem is. 👍

    I personally would have stuck with the recommended conventional 30 weight or maybe conventional 10w 40 if the motor is super worn. I think full synthetic is an overkill for those briggs quantums. if that engine is worn synthetic will do worse than good. It will burn faster and expose potential leaks. Otherwise great video. I did all of this and now gas is leaking out of the connection to the air filter. Any thoughts?

      Hey Matt, what connection are you talking about to the air filter. The air filter rests right in front of the carb so I’m wondering if you tipped the mower on the air filter side leading to it leaking out. Let me know! Thanks for watching!

    You forgot to install the felt gasket between the carburetor and the primer housing.

    Give it back but with a warning of if you sent it back with no oil you keep it.

    The only thing you should give your brother-in-law is a beat down for not properly maintaining a piece of equipment that means something to you. Then again, I have no in-laws that I actually like.

      Haha he’s a little busy at the moment with a 3 year old and a one year old. We got to cut him some slack. Lol. I told him he’s not allowed to sell it! I’ll be getting back when he’s done with it! Thanks for watching Mark! 👍

    You should have made him give it a proper wash before letting you work on it. He could even watch your video on how to clean a mower. Lol.

      Haha I did warn him that this mower tune up would probably end up on RUclips lol! He just needed it fixed fast! Seen way worse though! One guy brought me one a long time ago with dead mice under the cover lol. Must have been outside for a long time! Crazy!

    That was the air filter it was starving the engine so there wasn’t enough air, and the spark plug wasn’t helping

      Right on! This mower definitely benefited from a tune up! Thanks for watching Tyler!

    Why did you use 5w30 and not sae w30

    • @GarageGear
      @GarageGear  2 года назад +1

      Hey Jim, I know and trust two mechanics that teach small engine programs at tech schools and have been doing so for 40 years each. They both agreed that 5w-30 full synthetic is they way to go for most small engines. Been following their advice for years and it hasn’t steered me wrong. Thanks for watching!

    you don't need to be so annoying and boisterous. I appreciated your video but you are too dramatic. I am more of a donyboy73 afficianado. He is the best on youtube. Maybe you just had too much coffee. I do appreciate you though. Thank you for sharing
