He didn’t say that
@@oggabobproof?
@@oggabob He didn't say it word for word as quoted there. But he did in fact paraphrase it for a live performance of "Territorial Pissings" in Paris in 1994.
Can hear it here, he sings it in place of the "Just because youre paranoid.." of the studio version:

But yeah, he never to my knowledge said the quote as its quoted by man, and that quote has been credited to like 1000 different people, so it is doubtful he ever said it as quoted..
But there is something that at least shows he did say it paraphrased in a live setting.

Such an amazing time in my life. I was 18 when Kurt died and I will never get over it. I wish everyone could have experienced this decade, and their music live. There will never be another time like the early 90's, and there will never be another NIrvana.
I was sixteen in my dads garage working on my first car when the news broke over the radio. I sat down next to the car and cried. When you love a band as much as I loved Nirvana and something like happens it's almost like you lost a close family member. I remember feeling confused and empty sitting there knowing I would never see them live like I wanted to and thinking music might never be same for me again. Music is great for me again. Like most things time heals. Until this day a "celebrity's" death has never had the impact on me like Kurt Cobain's death. I put quotations around celebrity because even though he was and will always be one of the biggest rock stars on the planet he didn't feel like a celebrity to me.
I feel exactly the same way. I think we're about the same age too.
Was 14 and Nirvana was really all i still had going for me, then nothing…
Im now 50 and losing velocity as well as altitude. So Im lookin back while I still have the view...and I am just so grateful to have come of age in the Pacific Northwest during this time. The explosion in art..music...culture....these Seattle guys were just like me and my friends( some were my friends). Not hairspray and spandex and cop sunglasses but instead dressed for a night in the towering pines like barbarians with feelings searching for self amidst split families..too many prescriotions..Amdscerica 6putting the pedal down on the straighta6way into consumerism..leaving the halcyon days and the feel good myths...the poor and whatever soul we had behind to Thelma and Louise our dystopia rig off the cliThis music was the celebration of the common person and their complex.problems..depresson and addiction..a condemnatioe n as hif almost a prophetic.awareness that theh empire.was crumbling. America was in critical ciondition but still on its feet. Dead man walkin..These artists were just like me but also heros and bards..muses..victims...role models..cautionary tales....memories. The music still stands...as do I...for now.
i feel a.bit sad for the kids....We had Nirvana and the 90s In.Utero..in context.
The kids today have Nirvana T shirts..marketed right to them through the always on talking and listening billboard in their pockets . These phones and these.people wouldnt have held up in the mos÷h pit.
Guess we will see what is waiting for us when we hit the bottom.
love to all
I was lucky enough to have been born in 81 so the 90’s were the major part of my teen years , no cell phones no internet or social media . Living a beautiful life with no influences that weren’t my people I seen everyday
4:00 - 4:30 is the Nirvana I’ll always remember. They don’t take themselves too seriously - a bit self deprecating - massively talented but not overly worried about image or how they’re perceived. When Kurt falls forward out of the chair with that goofy expression on his face… still having fun with it… that’s how I wanna remember my favorite band.
I know this a serious video, but the damn crow singing gets me every single time.
I love the crow lol
Reminds me of when the mechanical Robin sings at the end of Blue Velvet..the whole cinema when I saw it cracked up, possibly because we were all shell shocked by the movie to that point.

Every Nirvana song sounds simple, raw, special and tragic all at the same time..
We lost him 30 years ago today but Kurt will always live on inside our hearts and minds
I was about 30 in those times. Having a lot of past all sort of music bagage.. But hearing Nirvana the first time made me opening a door never seen. Nirvana taking "Ivory towers" down in that time extra! If you didn't experience this.. How can those "after those times" finding out what Nirvana meant in "realistic"time.
I was blown away then, like a could say. Liking music "all around". From classic,
worldwide culture, électronique, pop, hardcore, punk..name it: Being good,=being interested person being.
Nirvana.. that "extra" level knowing to reach in musical way..after in "social" expressing ways. Cobain Kurt being the "soul" of Nirvana in many ways.
He was amazing. I still think Courtney Love had something to do with it. She's a shady witch.
Either directly or indirectly.

I met Krist back in 2006, talked with him, gave him my (then) bands album and told him I didn't have a ticket to the Flipper show he was playing. He said for me to hang around, and I ended up at the front row of the show. I wished I asked him things like at 2:54, whose idea was it for the bass to continue playing the riff while Kurt rode the A. Was it organic? Why didn't he just hold the A? Was there a discussion about that? The chemistry they had as musicians really was some sort of alchemy.
@@alexandruvilsanescu1865 Kurt is the one who died in 1994, Krist and Dave are still alive.
well according to Dave Grohl, their writing process was very organic and involved little to no communication regarding the actual writing of the songs/song parts. they kinda just played something and made it a song but Kurt had most of the control over how the song was gonna be. Dave basically said he'd drum something up and Kurt would play what he wanted and everything went from there but they never conversated about the writing because Kurt operated pretty much everything, at least, until the In Utero album where all three of them collaborated on a couple songs. After that, Kurt actually wanted to keep writing music like that, with more input from Kritst and Dave rather than him taking the brunt of the load.

Video retorcido
He created everything this was Kurt's set design. Fits perfect with the songs and the entire feeling of in utero
The video steals images from the Wizard of Oz. Especially the scene where Dorthy overdoses on poppys (heroin), a FIELD OF DREAMS. And is brought back to life with snow (cocaine). Which was left out of the final cut. The Wizard of Oz is an allegory for the gold standard.. the yellow brick road. As depicted in the heart shaped box video; Kurt wears a "tin man" coat, scarecrow pants and the cross, good witch/bad witch and so on. Interestingly instead of trying to reach OZ, material wealth and success he ingenuously changes the story to be about reaching child birth, a baby. Even more incredibly is how this all ties into the fact that the Dark Side of the Moon synchronizes with TWOZ. The pyramid cover depicted on our money and on from there.. When you get to the scene in 'The Dark Side Of The Oz' you can hear "one day closer to death" as Dorthy lay on the ground just as Kurt does in the HSB video. Truly fascinating! 'the softly spoken magic spell' we are all under i suppose.
@@mikemieding4773 some of it has eerily placed symbols that relate to him maybe selling his soul such as the crucifixion of Saint Nick, death and revival, his hair covering one eye for most of the video. Still my favorite music video. I couldn't really understand it when it first came out in '93 as I was 12, but I was fascinated with it even then. Back then, MTV would play a mixture of different genres, so there would be an Aerosmith video followed by a Dr Dre video, followed by a Metallica video and then THIS! I still remember when the "SLTS" video came out and how they would play it with the lyrics rolling across the bottom of the screen because everyone was trying to figure out what Kurt was saying. I personally was curious but after reading them and figuring them out I actually preferred my version more haha! I was so young that when I listened to "Polly" I thought it was a song about a pet parrot! I'm just realizing how much those old videos really influenced me. I went and got a striped long sleeve shirt like the one Kurt wears in the video and wanted a guitar so bad that I mowed lawns for my grandfather for the whole summer to be able to afford one. These days any kid can have access to whatever they want at any time so it's easier for them to find their own niche and I see that the younger kids are way more open minded and free spirited (for the most part) then they were when we were kids. Wearing jeans with a little hole in them would get some kids harassed and being into art and music would get you called faggott on the regular. It always makes me smile to see a 14 year old rocking out to Nirvana and absorbing the art. That would have made Kurt smile too. Man, what was the original point to this comment when I started it?

The fetuses hanging from the trees is new life, opportunities, jobs, change, it's just the change that was about to happen.
The small girl who is prancing in the field is Kurt himself, everything is out of his reach. The new change, the sacrifices, everything he wanted.
The woman with the anatomy suit/makeup on was Courtney, or I think was Courtney, because she was behind the scenes and not really there.
"Hey, wait, I got a new complaint" is possibly about him and Courtney arguing.
"Forever in debt to your priceless advice" is something he would say during their arguments (I read that in an article dont take my word for it, I'm not even sure about that line myself)
Now, about the title and the little girl sitting on the bed holding a heart shaped box.
Kurt and Courtney would exchange heart shaped boxes full of coins, hair, trinkets, notes, anything they wanted to fill them with and then give them to each other. The little girl, who I mentioned earlier was Kurt, is holding a empty heart shaped box because he has nothing left to give/say.
Thank you for reading my theory

@@fernandozam4023 You didn't give a survey to every person and ask them if they know this. So until you do, don't comment here.
That's pretty spot on, a theory that I came up with (only based on the lyrics, I also didn't know some of the info you used) Is that it's the story of a toxic relationship where one partner walks all over the other partner, this being Courtney walking all over Kurt. The zodiac Pisces was Kurt Cobain's sign, and Pisces are known to be sensitive, and can become very weak and easy to manipulate because of that. Courtney Love's sign, as you had already mentioned, is Cancer, and Cancer's are know ln to be rather intuitive and are known to value family, or in Courtney's case, "value" family. To keep Kurt with her, Courtney used the excuse of parenthood, duly noting how Kurt's parents divorce affected him, and how if they divorced, the same thing would happen to Frances. When they first met he was drawn to her by her innocent exterior, "cut myself on angel's hair...", and how he regretted thinking that she was so innocent in the first place, he was drawn in by her beauty only to be torn apart by a monster that was merciless "meat eating orchids forgive no one just yet..." The phrase "forever in debt to your priceless advice" sounds more or less like a sarcastic remark, for everything she had said and done that had a profound effect on him up until that point. It's a story of stress, manipulation, and regret. Thank you for reading if you did.
@@knoxjerky That's absolutely spot on, that's a great theory! I honestly just went off the most common lyrics (to be looked at), I like this!
The baby breath most likely also represented Frances, which does prove the point of this being about Courtney using family as an excuse. I do think Courtney covered up the truth about this song (to be about her vagina) because it would be another cover for herself.
Exactly, and I've heard that baby's breath is another type of flower as well, just like orchids
One of the best melodies simplistic to play but musicly such a strong and great melody
it's the grunge added and the mystery pain that is kurts voice
Jesus that man was physically beautiful. Lord have mercy!!
Lol. I know. I grew up in the 90’s and Nirvana scared me as a youngster. It wasn’t until I was looking at KC in my thirties and thought “HOLY CRAP! Kurt Cobain was hot!”
Poor guy. SMH.
It should be a rule that all kids should listen to nirvana at least once growing up.
How bout just letting them find it on their own like we did? Cuz if it’s truly timeless music then it should speak for itself
Whoever had the idea for this video is genius,i wouldn't change a second of it,it's like a dream materialized!
kurts idea
they were probably just high when they thought of it
He, not they; and it was heroin
Kurt Wrote the songs and was the Visual artist if you search him on wikipedia Visual Artist Musician

I'm 6 years old... When Kurt Cobain died... and this song , this band NIRVANA... is still iconic...
I'm 30 years old now... and I am proud to say that I am a NIRVANA FANS forever!
kurt was dead when i was born but i literally listen to all kinds of classics, jimi hendrix, the beatles, ac/dc, queen, nirvana etc. Im all over the classics spectrum i just love the music because people actually put work into it its not some computer driven bullshit.
I'm 15 and i listening Nirvana since 7 years old
I am 30 now and listen to nirvana since 46 years now ..
I love how kurt and kirst are acting like phsycos in the bedroom and dave is just sad there like "what am i doing here"
Thomas Martin yes :D

At 4:22 they more have the vibe of a rather weird family, can't really explain why but it feels like a family portrait in a very twisted way.
Whos still listening to this epic in 23? Give the guys some love.
Think ocer the years, this has definitely gone from my top 5 to my number 1 in the Nivarna rankings.
RIP kurt, you changed the music industry greatly in your life. What a legend.
This is how I discovered them. 10 years old. Flipping through channels and unto MTV. Then that riff. Those eyes. The lyrics. 30 years later still sounds as vibrant as the day it dropped.
kurt in the last scene is just so haunting and incredible to watch

Krist's bass lines were so accurate for this song. I like that bass is not hidden, but is important in the result of the song.
Kurt didn‘t die to become a t-shirt.
why can't u buy tshirts when you liked the band and the music???
Kea B Some people buy the t-shirts for the design and have never heard of Nirvana.
@@SpicyMilk I understand when these peopel shouldn't be allowed to do that tbh.
@@SpicyMilk but they guy above me said that edgy teens who listen to this shouldn't buy them
Kea B The t-shirt money isn't going to Kurt Cobain.
Dear Kurt, I miss you so much, can't believe I'm never gonna hear your voice alive or watch you performing 💔
This is what i call a happy individual
The colours of this video never have been that vibrant in the past
@Egg Very cute
3:40 I don’t know why but I love this scene so much
Kurt's vocals unironically sound really cool during this song
His Blue eyes
Crazy eyes
Sad eyes
Mad eyes
No matter what, will always shine.
3:55 LOVE, love, love the violet pants on Krist!
Love the unusual guitar sounds in this, along with how the vocal sounds contrast at times. Lyrics and imagery are very powerful. Very unique style.
these songs will forever be anthems
This video is a work of art, it perfectly illustrates the album artwork, & the overall tone of the record.
I did when I was 14, with my best friend. It was at a local university, in the gym (of all places). It cost $20 because my cousin was a college student and he was able to get the tickets at student prices for us.
We saw the Boredoms and the Meat Puppets open (awesome) and then Nirvana came out after a little break. Just came out and tore right into the set. It could have been their worst performance ever and I'd never know. For a kid getting to see her favorite band up close, it was transcendent.
I do remember that Kurt stopped in the middle of In Bloom and confronted the security guards near the stage who were throwing kids out and being excessively rough with them.
At the end they had some kind of long crazy jam session and members of the Boredoms came out and played with them. They destroyed everything on the stage and waved goodbye.
I remember going to school the next day and thinking you guys have no idea what I just witnessed. And of course I got shit for wearing my t-shirt. But I definitely felt like I left that concert with some secret of the universe in my pocket and no one could ever take that from me. I can't remember exactly but I think I started playing guitar shortly after that too.
Last year I found the audio of that concert. Quality starts off really rough but it gets a little better. I listened to it all and I'll admit I broke down and cried a little:
I love this. That's how music affects me too. And Nirvana. I wish there were audio of my 90s shows. I was lucky to see Bjork, NIN, AIC, Manson, and so many shows. But there were no cell phones and I haven't found any clips of the shows I attended.
I’m so jealous of you!
I wish I could of seen them live.
Blue eyes and Black hearts. 20 years now gone.
1:34 is that a colossal titan ?!?!?!?!
This is my fav song from nirvana
Same 😮😮
Till this day, He remains the most melodic songwriter and music composer, ever!
This gives me some sense of nostalgia but i wasnt even born then, i dont even know it's hard to explain...
That happens to me all the time. Some music just sounds similar.
No it makes sense. You're hearing the sound of a different generation
everyone experiences that
Yeah, it makes it weirder that i wasnt born in that generation
you are being one of those kids who are trying to say they are cultured and were born in the wrong generation, but your not trying to say it directly so people don't accuse you of being like that even tho that's how you "really feel". You done been caught.

Kurt will always be remembered
The isolation of Seattle was the perfect incubator for an incredible music scene.
I was always drawn to Seattle and Washington state as a kid as a portuguese kid .....but never in relationto grunge, altho its one of the few mainstream genres I actually enjoy. Starbucks altho its a bit of an evil...is also symbilic of somehting i love (coffee) and Cyan Worlds one of my favourite game designers of all time are from Spokane....oh and Twin Peaks.........ther s soemthing cool about that part of America to me. :)
@@jeanjacqueslundi3502 never hear any say the term "grunge" when I lived there. We just called them local bands. Then moved back to California and needed a R/X to stop myself from rolling my eyes everytime someone would say grunge.
@@kevinstoll3695 Yeah I have a hard time will labels like that myself. Rarely do I find bands I like through searching the same músic genre. If your music can be drscribed by a genre it better be very broad in scope.
