It reminds me of that star trek vr game. That died because of lack of players. It's not easy to organise 10 people to play a cooperative flight sim in vr. Not easy at all. Ai better be good.
From what I have heard, you can have Ai. How good they are is yet to be seen.
Star trek VR was awesome, the problem is that the majority of flight simmers, didn't have a VR
if this is going to be a real success then they need proper pvp multiplayer!
one or two players pr bomber, they need to add a couple fighter planes and set up servers with bomber runs and escort/intercept player controlled fighters!
if this is just gonna be 10 players in a bomber fighting only AI then 99% of the players will be done with the game after playing once or twice!
but if you do it majestic, I was playing a game in VR chat with the b-17 and people in the room manage to get the entire plane filled up and we shot down one plane ( because of poor mechanics that VR chat has)
the amount of people isnt the problem. if its a good game there wouldnt be a problem getting players. but its pcvr which is a dead market the game will very likely not be successful just as all pcvr games are
For me who works at the Mighty 8th Air Force Museum in Pooler, I say it is Freaking Awesome!😎
I drive past it a lot but have never stopped
At least Pooler has one redeeming quality.
The teleporting between sections is probably so you can move around within a section, but don't have to have an entire bomber's worth of room. This is how Ironwolf handles moving about the sub.
A mix between the free moving and the way you moved around the bomber in CoD: United Offensive/ the Catalina in CoD:WaW would be cool.
In my youth, playing WW2 flight sims, was 'B-17 Bomber' for the old Mattel Electronics console, 'Spitfire 40' on the Speccy and 'Ace of Aces' on the C64. The evolution of WW2 air combat based games is amazing in terms of what we used to have.
I know. I remember playing the b17 the mighty eighth when it was new and thought it was the best flight game ever. Then Il2 Sturmovik dropped and the difference then is as night and day as the new stuff coming out now.
Just like the mini series, my pet peeve is the asinine slow rate of fire the M2 machine guns have. The AN/M2 aircraft variant M2’s had a rate of fire between 750-850 rounds per minute, but in the show and what I saw in this demo they seem to be shooting around 300. When defending against enemy aircraft, volume of fire is critical for higher hit probability. Other than that, for VR, it looks amazing!
I hope it’s just because they are showing off the game so nothing was final, maybe just placeholder firing.
I’m hoping we get options to go from realistic and arcade like their older B17 games and that might allow us to adjust things like rate of fire and total ammo carried. (I’d go realistic personally. )
It might just be that your only seeing the tracers. Not every round was a tracer.
@@obamatraore2339 if you watch the show Masters of the Air you can hear each shot and see the guns recoil way slower than they should be. In this video, while we can’t hear the guns, there are other tell tale signs, such as again, the guns recoil movement from every shot, the rate at which shells are ejected, as well as the timing of muzzle flashes.
Extremely excited for this! My grandfather was a Navigator/Bombardier in a B-24 Liberator. He joined the Army Air Corps and flew until the end of the war in the Mighty 8th. His co-pilot was KIA on one mission and that's most of the knowledge I have on it. Got all his medical papers and medals though.
That's a really cool piece of history to keep there. The only thing I found about my family during WW2 were one was home guard due to being partially blind and another built tanks in Newcastle.
for me i would want to be able to walk through the whole aircraft myself, real .50cal fire rate and sounds, and better and more realistic tracers.
I'd like to walk through the whole aircraft in one go to. There might be a limitation or a reason for it that we might hear later on in development. As for the rest, my guess is due to how early in development this video came from and it no near completion.
Multi crew is going to be key for this game.
I’m looking forward to telling my friends they are terrible bomber crew 😂
An interesting movement mechanic that would work well could be "grabbing" at the ceiling or other internal structures and pulling yourself forward in game, similar to how you might grab onto things while trying to walk around a moving aircraft in flight
Could be cool to have when the plane is in a dive or spiralling out of control and you have to get to an exit to bail out.
VERY excited about this. I played the original B-17 to death back in the day......
Same here. I still have the original disks somewhere.
My great-grandfather was an upper gunner on a B-17 belonging to the 15th air force during WW2, not saying this is true, but he always used to say "The 15's did all the work, and the 8th got all the credit".
I think that is similar to how a lot of people think the 101st took Normandy all by themselves. It's the ones who stood out got the credit not necessarily the ones who actually did the most work.
Do you mean 15th air group? Not 15th air force
@@EngineeringAndVehiclesArchive Fifteenth Air Force
WOW!
This looks pretty awesome overall. I have to say that I hope video games can be a teaching tool for future generations. However, I must say this. I own a Willys - when you drive a WWII jeep you won’t be looking out above the windshield and it starts from a floor switch near the accelerator.
Same as my old Dodge WC52. Starter was above the accelerator pedal. I think the player was maybe just a bit tall and didn’t fit in the jeep properly.
Really hope we can use joystick/HOTAS and xbox controller rather than VR touch controllers. I sit at my desk when playing flight sims and can't use touch controllers as it will bump against desk and monitor etc.
Walking into the bomb bay… there is a skinny plank you must walk on… or fall out the bomb bay.
must have been scary for those who flew for real in wartime when they had to go through with the doors open. I wonder if we can bail out this way ingame by jumping out of it.
@@ItIsntJack my father was with the 457th BG 750th Squadron out of Glotton England. He was shot down on his 5th mission made it back to England to fly 25 more missions.
I got to drop some of his ashes out the bomb bay of Sentimental Journey a B17 with the Commemorative Air Force painted in the 457th BG colors.
@thatguy7085 that is truly a wonderful sendoff. Sounds like a wonderful man and must have had some amazing stories.
Thanks for posting !
I hope they let you bail out, like ejecting in DCS. Letting us parachute to the ground, instead of a return to menu.
I want to accidentally fall out of the bomb bay 😂
I hope so too.
Thank you for the presentation 👍
I think I could have done it better but thank you.
If it supports playing without VR I could see myself piloting in this game. I fly planes in IL-2 and that's the position I most prefer. I like this idea of working together as a crew on a single plane but I don't really enjoy being in VR, especially for long periods of time. Also hope it has HOTAS support.
Unfortunately, the only word we have that is set in stone is that its VR. Maybe nonVR will come later like Derail Valley did.
I would love to play this game, and if there was a combat mode, that would be awesome.
There is supposed to be bombing raids and enemy fighters too. This was just a teaser video to show some progress by the devs.
Hopefully the green highlights are just in the training mode.
Either this or an option to disable would be good.
It wasn't "actual gameplay" it was actual in game footage that shows the game is not even close to done.
Oh it’s not close to done but this is from their training / free session mission which seems to be just a bomber and nothing else. Perfect for just messing about but no real threats except for poor piloting. This is the most Ingame anything we have had but still looks decent.
@@ItIsntJack But I'm guessing based on what they showed - I don't even think engine management is in yet - From the first teaser to this latest - I feel like it's really really not close to functional. I think if they had some meat to show they would show it.
TY 🙏🙏
it looks SO GOOD! I cant wait. Def gonna be a waist gunner. I do wonder how long the missions will be. Most VR headsets cant run 8+ hours. Must be short missions.
It does look good. I'm hoping we get options for the length of flight with the ability to save and the host to pause. This could mean players who just want instant action can just get in plane, skip and be in the thick of it while others can go through the whole lot, saving to continue another day and pausing for snack breaks etc.
if i heard right it's gonna be multiplayers of which case im getting a headset just for this
10 player coop with all positions able to be used. If you short on players or want to solo, Ai fill the spaces.
@@ItIsntJackis it going to be on the meta store? Please make it so it is
Definitively one thing that comes to my mind is that the game's on its very early stage od development. VR has some requirements, like both high and stable FPSs are required for pleasent experience. Thus, I can't see the game evolving into MMO, with a whole group of bombers manned by players flying its formation into Ruhre on one MP server. It would be fantastic, but can't see 390 players playing on one server happening, especially due to time of typical bomber missions was taking, back in those days. I can see they accomplished part of visuals and that's it for now. Even simulation of flight instruments is not implemented, maybe because a flight model hasn't been finished yet? Engine samples sound wierd at the moment, no changes in pitch and depth. It was just a demo of working VR mechanics and the first iterration of the terrain/world, I believe. Still, I love what they have currently, especially that you can walk/drive around airbase, tho. Can't wait for further sneak peaks into the dev process of the game.
My guess is it will stay the one bomber and 10 players and maybe, if they are able to, add an additional bomber or two depending on how well the network code is. Time will tell.
@@ItIsntJack I agree. I like your content, honest and to the point, thanks!
it looks great, it would be good if it could be played in vr with mouse and keyboard( if there was such a possibility to turn it off)
Way too early to tell. I know a few who would prefer that and also to have it in non Vr.
Think they said that it will not be a specific b-17 model but a mix between them dont know why but i am sure they said that
Still looks pretty early access. I hope they don't release it until it's complete. Only things I'm noticing from the video that look terrible are the green glowing things and that the gunfire looks terrible.
I agree. The green glow to indicate an interaction point is very bad and breaks the immersion. Gunfire could just be because it’s early.
quest 3 is great machine
It’s better than the quest 2. Been liking my Q3.
Only, the willys never had a key...
I know a friends 1942 jeep has a key but that was fitted recently. If they are like my old Dodge WC you had more of an ignition switch that is often mistaken for a key.
I don't see why teleports are needed at all; Why not use a "climb" mechanic, where the player grabs a handle and pulls themself through? If they try to abuse it to clip out the plane, vision can be blocked like how Alyx does. If they let go of the handle while clipping they pop back into the plane
No animation of the belt feeding into the .50
Yeah I noticed that. I think I briefly mentioned it in my video. Could be just because it's early but if it stays static on release it would be a shame.
@@ItIsntJack the muzzle flash looks way to big as well, and I saw someone else point out that the aircraft 50 had a fire rate pushing 800-1000 rpm.
Things that can be fixed hopefully.
Could just be placeholder. I hope so. My guess is most of the video just shows off what they currently have that is at least presentable and still nowhere near final.
I was really hyped for this but the second I saw how we teleport I lost a a lot of interest and then the people already in the seats I hope they can fix that cause right now it seems horrible
It could be just placeholder while it’s in development. I’m sure we will find out soon enough. Maybe you see the positions filled if you have Ai enabled, sort of like the game Wolfpack.
Gutted we did not get to hear the sound……
There is sound in the original video but it was a simple idle drone even when taking off.
The video does show a B17 model F. To be a model G, the B17 must have a chin turret.
at 01:40 it shows the chin turret and when inside, you can see the right waist gun position is further forward than the left. You can also see the Cheyenne Tail Turret which has the larger view glazing and no canvas cover on the weapons. All the signs of a late 'G' model. At the 09:30 mark, you can see the player firing the chin turret from the bombardiers position.
Is it going to be on standalone meta?
Not sure, I know for sure it’s on Steam.
Will there be a non-vr version?
Nothing confirmed that it won’t have it at any point as of yet but it is listed as VR only.
If this game is as good as I hope it would be, i would finally invest in a VR setup. Do you think this would work on the Oculus? I have no idea what im doing with VR lol
I have the quest 3 but run through my Pc so I’ll know myself when they release something. My guess most common headsets will be possible but nothing seems confirmed in stone just yet.
Why are you not testing and aiming through the sights? This is a major point in VR and it looks like they nailed it. They implemented all the various versions.
This video came from the dev log, not me. If it was me I’d be borderline rivet counting checking everything out. I feel this was just a showcase of what they have so far that they are happy to show the public.
@@ItIsntJack ahh… ok… not you fault… sorry. 😄 I was like: „look through the god damn sights“
There wont be enough players to fill a single plane if its VR only, needs to be rolled into the bloody 100 as a mode. Not a full vr only game
I think it will. I have enough friends who want to play to fill a plane so there is at least one plane getting filled. I also feel they will be both very different games, not just the Vr/flat but in how the campaign, coop ability and realism.
Would I like a Vr bloody 100th, of course and I think something was mentioned that it might be a thing also. If assets are shared and much of the game code, it’s probably like a separate mode in a way.
Who knows. Time will tell.
Isnt this the same trailer they put out last time? Is vr only? For the small % of people who have vr, waiting for the bloody 100th, although at this point thats dead i think.
Last one was just them driving round in a jeep and the video of their concept from years ago is very outdated and barebones. This was from there latest dev log from last week.
Looks like the took insperation from masters of the air including the name of the plane except the tower and the way you enter the place are incorrect
And some other small details are off
A lot of things could be missing, shortened or omitted due to being very early preview or for gameplay purposes. Personally I'd want this to be as realistic as possible but time will tell. I'm also sure this game started development before MotA even started filming.
.50 belt doesn't move when you rack the charging handle. THIS GAME IS A NO GO AT THIS TIME.
Graphics already a generation old
Graphics aren’t everything. Personally I think it looks more than good enough. It might improve as development goes on or they might tone it down due to performance.
Please could you tell us what VR head set your using . Thanks
I wasn't the one who recorded it, it's from the dev blog2 . In the text though it says this;
"The video has been captured on a Steam PCVR build on an Oculus Quest 2 connected via wifi using Virtual Desktop. The game will also work via the Steam app and Oculus Airlink, using motion controllers. We have also been testing with hand tracking on the Quest 2, and that is partially working already. We aim to support as many headsets as possible when the game launches."
Does it let you indiscriminately firebomb civilians?
bullets tracers is very irreal unusable ugly
I think they are placeholder to just show of the B17 Ingame with some of the VR functionality
Way too bright. Looks lit up inside. Takes away from the reality nd atmosphere.
It is quite bright but it's possible that this was just a 'this is what we have got so far' look and lighting isn't finished yet.
Looks like World War Boring.
VR is death. Horrible. Makes me sick.
Bs. Never once been sick in VR
lol poor genetics
Sometimes it can take a little while to get past VR sickness if you're prone to it. They key is short sessions, ending them as soon as you start to feel uncomfortable. Eventually, you'll find that can can spend longer periods in VR until you just don't experience it anymore. It's a brain/inner ear conflicting sensations issue.
I can play for hours but as soon as my headset comes off, my brain thinks I’m upside down haha.
if your IPD (distance between your pupil's) is outside the range of your VR headset by more than 1-2 millimeters, then you will have a horrible VR experience!
the quest2 for example has a relatively low IPD range and is not suitable for, i think around 30% of people, me included!
the quest3 has a higher range though!
take a ruler and stand in front of a mirror, then measure the distance between the center of each eye... and check that you are within range of your chosen VR headset!
