"Is that Godzilla?" No. Not it is not. The real Godzilla does not look like some hideous demonic looking creature that came out of the mind of Todd McFarlane. The real Godzilla is more awesome and fun looking. The kind of monster you LOVE to see show up and cause mayham which earns him the title of King Of The Monsters. This thing is none of those.

ULTRAKAIRIS 777 Just don't ask unnecessary questions. I think most of the Anno (the co-director of Shin Gojira and also a director of Evangelion) fans know what is Anno thinking about the design.
The way Godzilla is formed. He is an abomination to start with. A human mistake. He looks deformed because of the rapid mutation he goes through. His body is full of keloid scars and open wounds just like the victims of the atomic bomb tragedy back in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Why? Because Godzilla is the victim himself in this movie. The only true monsters are the humans. They created Godzilla, let him to live in pain and misery. There is even an official Shin Gojira song that expresses Godzilla emotions in it. The back radiated lasers are actually coming out from his open wounds. Unlike the American movie, Japan loves to treat their Godzilla as a real disaster. I don't think they would make Godzilla OP just because to beat the American Godzilla but to show the horrifying destruction that the nuclear disaster can bring upon us.

The ways Godzilla is covered by keloid scars and have open wounds everywhere on his body make him to look ugly as he is supposed to be.
