Hey everyone! What’s up? Today’s video is something I’ve wanted to highlight for a long time now. There is a serious lack of understanding of the differences between these two sports, and I think it is important for people to appreciate that gymnastics is more than flips and tricks, but it also includes so many genres that are equally as impressive and require just as much skill.
Even some of my friends don’t fully understand the difference between rhythmic and artistic, so I thought this video would be perfect to show to people who still don’t get why I never compete on the bar, vault, or beam.
I want to emphasise that I have so much appreciation for artistic gymnastics and the skill and hard work involved, but I also wanted to voice some of my opinions and struggles that being a rhythmic gymnast can present 🙈
Comment down below if you can relate to any of these issues, or if in fact you learned something new today 😄
Make sure to back flip, or split leap into that subscribe button if you enjoyed this video, and can’t wait to see you in the next.
    Have a great weekend guys.
    And Remember,
    Dream Big,
    Make it Happen 🌟

I'm Russian, we have different problem : rhythmic gymnastics is extremely popular but artistic is underappreciated. When we hear "gymnastics" we imagine exactly crazy flexibility, clubs, ribbons and other rhythmic stuff, but definitely not flips and aerials.

in italy ironically artistic gymanstics is more popular , BUT the national team, the FARFALLE of rhytmic is the most awarded of the country, over 150 medals from 2003..i mean while aristic women gymanstic after 2006 with Vanessa ferrari has still yet to win another medal at the worlds, in rhytmic from 2003 we NEVER finished a world championship with AT least with amedal(and when we eon just one medal it means it gone bad ),last years we eon 6 medals and STLLS artsitc is more popular...sooo unfair

Really good to hear. I'm in the trampoline world and so many times you hear about how trampoline is 'easy' because it's just 'flips and tricks but you don't have to do any work'. There is so little known about the other gymnastics disciplines - RG, trampoline, DMT, Acro, Aerobic, tumbling; just to name a few. You are a gymnast if you do any of these - but people associate 'gymnast' with the beam/bar/floor of artistic and often aren't even aware of these disciplines and how different from the well known artistic gym they are.
There needs to be more awareness of the lesser seen disciplines of gymnastics - your video is great and explains the matter really well from an RG point of view. 😁👍

    • @HannahMartinRG
      @HannahMartinRG  5 лет назад +3

Thank you so much for your comment! Its so interesting hearing it from all different perspectives. I used to train in the same hall as the British trampolinists at the national rhythmic training camps, and their discipline is definitely so different to any of the others. I definitely agree there needs to be an increase in awareness, so little but surely we will get through.

If it’s something you really want to try don’t let anything hold you back, there are lots of very good gymnasts who aren’t super flexible, often their apparatus handling is insane, so if you are struggling with the flexibility side you can always focus on trying to make your apparatus handling even better!

@HannahMartinRG In Indonesia, rhythmic gymnastics are thought as general gymnastics - it was done with music (like RG) but without any apparatus and insane flexibility, but have aerobic movements (note that aerobic music are mainly house EDM). For example, during PE classes in high school, I did "Senam Pramuka", "Senam Maumere", "Senam PGRI", and "custom music gymnatics", which those are general gymnastics, not RG.

In Estonia, rhytmic gymnastics is called "iluvõimlemine", literal translation would be "beauty gymnastics" and it is a fairly popular sport, at least among young girls. Artistic gymnastics was called "riistvõimlemine" which would translate as "tool gymnastics", but was basically nonexistent 2000-2020. Since its comeback, it is called "sportvõimlemine"- "sports gymnastics"

In many countries people think rg is just artistic gymnastic or jumping a bit during waving a ribbon in the air.
Here in Germany, when I told someone, I am a rhythmic gymnast, people think, I am a acrobatic gymnast or they are calling me a ballet dancer 😕
I explained so often to some people, what I am and what I do, but they always get it wrong. So ye... for Germans a rhythmic gymnast is a ballet dancer or a acrobatic gymnast.
I think Germans don't call rg artistic gym. because we don't call them gymnasts.
    Rhythmic gymnastics - Rhythmische Sportgymnastik
Rhythmic gymnast - Rhytmische Gymnastin or Gymnastin
    Artistic gymnastics - Turnen
    Artistic gymnast - Turnerin♀ /Turner♂
    Acrobatic - Akrobatik
    Acrobatik gymnast - Akrobatin♀ /Akrobat♂ or Gymnastin♀/ Gymnast♂
The ballet dancer comes from the way we move.
    Ps:
You're an absolutely great gymnast.💛 I wished I had known the sport earlier and started it earlier so I could be an elite gymnast too, but unfortunately I started when I was nearly 13 years old ... so I am not even half as great and elegant as other gymnasts and you 😧

@@HannahMartinRG That would be great. It is a beautiful sport and it deserves being known better.
      Thank you so much 💛
I wished age was just a number, but for the germans, I am to old. They won't give me a chance. My last rg competion was 2 and a half years ago and it was a joke...
I'm not allowed to train intensive like the gymnasts who started at a very young age. If I want to competete, I have to join a 'Breitensport' group (like a sports for fun group) where I'm not allowed to do backbends 😢 or other 'to extreme' flexibility tricks and where every competion is a joke. The only way, people like me, can still be a bit of a rhythmic gymnast is joining a show group and even there, most things they do are acro stunts.
You're really lucky, that you had started this amazing and beautiful sport at a young age.

So joining a show group is the best I can do.

Theophiliv you should definitely try and get involved! Maybe look around for what clubs are in your area, do a few trial sessions at each one and decide which one you like best 😃

Really interesting video. I didn't know any of that. However, I did find it a little odd when you started off saying that rhythmic gymnasts don't flip all over the place because you need to keep one body part on the floor at all times. Then you followed that with a shot of a rhythmic gymnast leaping off the floor. So, there are acceptable ways to leave the floor completely, then.

The annoying thing is people always forget a minute after you tell them what rhythmic gymnastics is
I told a lot of my friends that I do rhythmic and as usual, they instantly asked if I can do flips
then I explained to them what it actually was and they looked like they understood
A few weeks later I told them I do rhythmic again
and they did the exact same thing ARRGGG

you missed so much in artistic gymnastics we also need extreme strength to be able to flip so high jump from bar to bar, balance for beam, speaking of beam also trying not to split it which can cause serious injury, hours and hours to master a skill perfectly, trying not to die, and also a lot of focus and self control.

No such confusion in Russia, lol. both type are quite strong, but rhythmic is more popular. In Israel thanks to Linoy Ashram the awareness has increased, although rhythmic gymnastics has always been much stronger here than artistic.

I might be wrong but I saw this girl during the world championship in Sofia, so she is already on the big scene. I can't agree that 3-6 hours are enough if you want to be from the best.

    • @HannahMartinRG
      @HannahMartinRG  5 лет назад

Dicho Kusarov yes, you often have to train 6+ hours on elite level, but 3-6 hours are an average across all levels of rhythmic gymnastics

@@HannahMartinRG well you have all the physical qualities to be of the best and it is obvious that you train very hard. I don't like the shape of the jumps but your pirouettes and balances are amazing and I just don't get why you do so many apparatus handling errors.Work with your choreographer and try to enjoy more your performance instead being so stressed. I ca't wait to see your star shining in the top ranking.

She was like , " You think you are better than her! Then can you do 11 back hand springs?"
I was like, " I don't do gymnastics I do RHYTHMIC gymnastics. I don't learn how to do flips and tumbles!"

    • @HannahMartinRG

Happy Hopping in that picture I am doing a leap, which is allowed in rhythmic gymnastics, the rule only applies to acrobatic elements. So you must have a body part on the floor during an acrobatic element. Hope that makes sense? 🙈😄
