  • from his 1974 album "Alleluia"
It's just like Jesus to roll the clouds away
It's just like Jesus to keep me day by day
It's just like Jesus all along the way
It's just like His great love.
This is one of, if not the most, imaginative arrangements I've heard on the organ. Paul's almost having too much fun. As you can hear, besides having marvelous organ technique, he can play the drums too - or at least the organ equivalent. For those of you not up on this sort of thing, theatre organs, like Paul is playing, usually have a set of real live traps attached to them you can control from the organ console. If you have a good sound system, you can hear the traps pan from left to right, another interesting technique the album engineer added. I will say I haven't really figured out why Paul used traps so much on this arrangement. This isn't the kind of song you would normally associate with a marching band so it almost feels rather gimmicky. They sound cool but it's not something I would use if I were playing this arrangement for church.
As far as Paul himself is concerned, you can hardly say too much about him. In additional to being an excellent musician, Paul also owned his own record label from about 1961 to 1973 - Supreme Productions. He sold it, I believe, to Zondervan publications after this. The label continued to exist for a couple years after but by the late 1970s, Paul was recording mostly for the Singcord label, a subsidiary of Singspiration who was also owned by Zondervan (confusing, huh?). The liner notes on back of the album say this was Paul's 22nd organ album - 22! He also orchestrated over 700 hymn arrangements for his own recording orchestra and choir. Busy, busy guy.
I collect record albums as a hobby. If they're in good enough condition, I digitize them to my computer using Magix Audio Cleaning Lab software, thus what you're hearing now. These songs I play are NOT remastered. I try to clean up the sound without messing with the original sonic qualities that can't be beat listening to an LP.
I hope you enjoy this music I doubt you'll ever find elsewhere in this condition.
God's blessings on you for listening.
