Hodor's death made me sob uncontrollably. It affected me much more than any other death in the show. Even more than Ned's, which was a complete chock the first time I saw it.
The way I think of Hodor's disability is this: Bran warged into Hodor from the vision, which combined with Mera's comand "hold the door" affected Willis. Willis has a seizure where he expirenced his death in the future and that broke his mind. When honor died, the seizure stopped and he was left simple minded with only the ability to say Hodor. I don't think he was continuously reliving his death or maybe even remembered it, but the effect it had left him with the mind of a child. I think his kindness was the only thing he had left of Willis. He loved Bran like a childhood friend. whenever it thundered or people were fighting, it scared him into non action just like a child would react to scary things. Bran started warging into him to calm him down and later use his monstrous size to help them.
That’s more or less what the writers said. When Hodor was holding the door, the time loop was complete and he became himself again, and he consciously chose to die to save his friends. He had no ill will towards Bran.
It's certainly one of those times you have to pause, and think about it for a few moments because it takes a time to wrap your head around, but I think you explained it very well, I couldn't have said it better. although it does beg the question, If Hodor remembered his death, then he already knew what was going to happen to him once he got to the cave, which shows his loyalty, just like Jojen reed, Mera's brother knew he would die getting Bran too the cave, and Hodor died to give them a head start while leaving the cave, it was a good call back to the sacrifice made by those willing to help get Bran beyond the wall to become the three eyed raven, and get home again to tell the rest of westeros what was happening so they could prepare.
Finally someone said it, coz most people don't even cry at all in this episode. But it's far more devasting because of the long game that psys off with Hodor. Literally 6 seasons in the making.
When Jojen died the children told Meera that he could foresee his own death but went anyway because he knew getting Bran to the 3 eyed raven was important I like to think Hodor saw his death in that moment in the past and always knew taking Bran would lead to his death, but knew how important it was and went anyway

OMG!!! 😂How did I miss this! I love ❤️ y’all
That was real RUclips at the start. I mean that as a fantastic compliment, you somehow captured the magic of RUclips again and actually did a talented thing. I wish I could better explain what I mean, when you busted out the pipes and it was good it was one of the most surprising things I've seen in a while, because the setup and leadup really made me think it was going to very bad and it was the opposite.
Edit: The end was even better, thanx guys.
That song for Hodor was beautiful 🥲
And... the song was the best damn thing ever. I love you guys so much.
i love you guys, putting a tribute in, and all you guys deserve alot more attention jesus christ keep up the videos seriously.
Remember when Bran made Ned turn around at the Tower of joy. That was a change that Bran made. Even though BloodRaven (creepy tree guy) said the ink is dry.
