I think what makes his death especially tragic is the fact that, out of everyone in the entire show, Hodor might be one of the only TRUE innocents. He never harmed anyone, never deceived anyone, never acted out of jealously or pettiness or cruelty. He just did what he could to enjoy his life and help the people he cared about.

It would have been out of context if they had played a melody reminiscent of a beautiful summer day of a falling star over a tall tree when dealing with "the blizzard of the dead." [hint] I agree that it is still one of the most heartwrenching scenes in the series and one of the best-acted and edited scenes. Count the cuts and the lines. So much is happening, yet few words are said, and those are minimalistic.

The first time any character speaks to Hodor in the show is Theon Greyjoy and he tells him "Help Bran down the hall". That kind of foreshadowing gave me chills. Also, there's symbolism with Bran's wolf being dead. With Summer gone, it means Winter has finally come.
I know we witnessed Shireen dying in season 5, but THIS episode is the one that broke me. Knowing that Hodor had lived his whole life for just this one purpose, and basically had his life robbed from him towards that single end...was totally crushing. His death had such a profound effect on the audience, it was amazing to see the memes and crafts that came from it, everything from Hodor stickers on elevator "open door" buttons to Hodor-themed door stops. What makes it even more impactful is that Hodor has been with us since season 1. His thread was woven through the entire story and we had ZERO idea it was coming. What a legend, holding the door.
That’s why Hodor affected me the most out of everything: He had all the makings of a good life. He was intelligent enough to maybe one day rise through the ranks to a place of honor, he wasn’t just uncommonly large and strong. Everything he was and could have been was stripped away from him in a single moment. @MyDevilishLullaby by that logic why couldn't Jon's death be the payment for his own life? But it doesn't really matter, because it isn't real canon. Shireen is still alive in the books, she and her mother stayed behind on the wall.

The soul is brought back to the corpse which is reanimated by it (it's made clear the people resurrected by fire magic are actually not alive per se, they simply have control over their own corpse)
I don't think most people understand why that is one of the most messed up, tragic deaths in cinematic history. This was the episode where I was finally like "Okay, FUCK Bran and his whole storyline" lol. Purely out of idiocy and selfishness, he caused both Summer and Hodor (along with all of the others) to sacrifice themselves so his ass could be towed away to safety. Turns out he caused Hodor's entire life to be messed up..... idk. For me, after everything everyone has been through, this just felt like it was sad and happened for no reason. Over Bran lol.
I remember watching this for the first time with my fiancé who, had already watched all of GOT. I made a passive aggressive comment of “hold the door? This sounds like a boring episode” and he just said “you won’t be saying that at the end” and literally by the end of the episode, I was in floods of tears curled up in his jumper 🤣🤣 haven’t commented on an episodes title since 🤣🤣🤣
The day after this aired was WILD! I was on campus at university and several times, Sweet Summer Children innocently asked for someone to "Hold the door" and there was at least one other person in the room who violently flinched at hearing that phrase. Total strangers were comforting each other over being triggered by a commonplace phrase. I'll never forget that.
Think about it. The Lord of Light is the only "god" that has actually demonstrated and revealed it's power, albeit in a mysterious way. The other religions seem useless, despite what the High Sparrow might claim about the Faith of the Seven.

The best reaction is Bust! Reacts they made their own song video dedicated to Hodor
God, experiencing this episode again, whew, HOLD THE DOOR, . . .
Raw & Heart Felt Reaction Hannah 😔😔😔
After this aired someone (whomever it was never claimed responsibility) at my job took a sharpie and wrote HODOR on all the doorstoppers in the entire building. People were BIG mad when they noticed.
"It's a movie about TROW-mah...I's a movie about trowmah. Movie is about trowmah. Hold the door episode obviously was about trowmah. The whole episode was a study in trowmah. It's a lot about rage and trowmah" (c)
He knew his entire life that was the moment he died. And he died holding the door saving bran
One last word if you do not mind Hannah❤❤❤
Zoom less just a lil bit 🙏🏻
p.s get Ash to your place and watch the Peaky fugging Blinders.....Am I right?🎉🎉 Yes Fani this is A good 1
If you ever need a bit of a GoT "palate cleanser", check out the 12-minute, Game of Thrones MUSICAL!! Chris Martin of Coldplay (and funnily enough, the drummer in Coldplay was part of the Red Wedding) got a number of the cast members together and made a video for Red Nose Day. It's BRILLIANT. You also don't need to worry about any spoilers from it because it came out at a point in the show that you have well passed. And if Ash hasn't seen it, HE needs to see it too!
Also, I consider the last two episodes of this season to be some of the finest television to ever air. Can't wait to see your head explode. You'll also need to watch another video after that to fill you in on all the things you missed. (R+L=)
This is one of those episodes that sticks with you
Depending on how you interpret it, Shireen's death may have paid for Jon's life (in the show specifically, that is).
Hannah, I love watching you watching GoT, but I'll be honest I am a little concerned about the last leg of this Epic story.. you have to watch it obviously, but you need to be prepared for some REAL shockers ahead.
"hold the door" ... "hodor"
This gave nightmares to the translators who produced the show in other languages :)
Oh man i can imagine 😂
Sansa not telling Jon about Littlefinger still makes no sense 😂
I remember watching this as it came out and as SOON as I heard Bran's voice from the future...I just. Knew. 😢
love your reactions. Been binging all your GOT reactions for the past few days. 😁
fyi: this episode doesn't seem to be on your GOT playlist yet.
You are gorgeous Hannah
Think about it. The Lord of Light is the only "god" that has actually demonstrated and revealed it's power, albeit in a mysterious way. The other religions seem useless, despite what the High Sparrow might claim about the Faith of the Seven.
