As one of your patients who suffers from hoarseness due to RA, you are an invaluable resource. Thank you, Dr. Bhanusali for taking such good care of me over the years!
As a vocal teacher who currently has a student with RA, this was immensely helpful! There seems to be little info on the topic of RA and singing, but already in just one month of singing with me, her voice has been improving! Her vocal range is still limited, but I hope it can extend with time in tandem with more specialized treatment from her RA doc. I'm curious if you have any other recommendations of how I can better serve my student besides moving her voice with warmups?
I’m glad she is doing better! Sometimes disease activity of the RA itself can cause issues in the vocal cords. Or sometimes nodules form and they don’t go away so easily. So many different issues are possible. ENT eval can be very helpful-as can therapy for the vocal cords depending on the issue.
I had no idea! Thankyou for increasing awareness. I would never have thought RA can affect your voice.
Yes, there is even a joint there that can be inflammed

You are welcome 🙂
I did not know that, glad I do now!
Interesting
Yes, not often thought about but it happens

Most people don’t. It’s not as common as other areas we see for flares but certainly can and does happen
No idea there was a joint there
Yes, people often forget about the voice box. Something to consider if other causes of hoarseness etc have been ruled out.
