    The worst part about Stranger Danger videos is there's no scrutiny in them. It's just "stay away from people you don't know!" How is that gonna allow people to enter the workforce if you're telling them to not talk with anyone?
    Then again, Barney's "strangers are your friends" deal lacks scrutiny on the literal opposite end of the spectrum.
    Really, the best handling of strangers would go to the Berenstain Bears, which had Mama Bear explain how there are good apples and bad apples among people.

      Unfortunately stranger danger is pretty outdated and can be dangerous. It's obviously helped in some cases, but about 90% of kids actually know their perpetrator. So "stranger danger" is almost useless. It teaches kids to be scared of all strangers, which could include teachers, police officers, librarians, store clerks, etc. I think some psychologists are trying to push "tricky people" now, which isn't as catchy haha. But it's moreso about people who make the kid feel uncomfortable or icky, which can be anyone regardless of if the kid knows them or not.

    It’s nice that we’ve improved regarding our stance on teaching our children to be safe when at home or away. I highly doubt this was a kidnapping attempt, you'd have to be stupid to try it in front of a parent.
      Not only does this give the police a face sketch, a chance to grab the kid back, but the ability for a parent to pull a concealed gun. These would have to be the stupidest people ever.

    • @BewbsOP
      @BewbsOP Год назад +38

      @@Buglin_Burger7878 are you insinuating that people *aren't* stupid? Plenty of kids have absolutely been kidnapped right in front of their parents, sometimes *by* another parent or family member, making it even more obvious for police to find.
      Also, I didn't mention this, but my dad is blind, and was obviously blind to anyone seeing him at the time, black glasses and blind stick included.

    Ah yes Stranger Danger, while I think its still is super important for kids to be wary of Strangers and remain safe. Most case's I've heard of kids being mistreated, especially childhood sexual abuse tends to usually happen by someone within the family or by those that the kid already knows like a babysitter or a friend of the parents and so forth.

    Ironically, 90-95% of child "mistreatment" (I am referring to it as such because RUclips is a bit over the top on censors. We all what I am REALLY referring to) happens from a friend or family member.
    But of course, we cannot make videos mentioning that, because that will just make children terrified of their own parents. Which is how we get laughable videos like this.

    6:10 It was kind of shown in a funny manner, and I did chuckle with your skit of it, but code words or the magic word is a good thing to set up with your family. It does work.
    It helped me from being abducted when I was a small kid.
    We tend to forget that as a very young child, some do not find it easy to disobey adults. (I was such a child.) The pass code is one way to say to the child that something is wrong here and to make a scene asap. Yell, kick, run away, whatever it takes to not go with a stranger that has lied about their connection with your parents.
