Freaky Eaters documents the intense struggles of those with a dangerous compulsion towards a particular food. With the help of two experts, the Freaky Eater confronts the painful truth behind their food obsession and fights to reclaim control of their diet and combat the destructive side effects their behaviour is having on their health. Patients include a girl who drinks more than 30 cans of cola a day, a 29-year-old mother who only eats French fries and a diabetic who has a life-threatening addiction to cheeseburger. Can they overcome their dependencies and learn how to manage their diets?

i always find this kind of depression gluttony sad, because the drug of choice looks so innocent but after the indulgence it feels so lonely.
I had a binge eating problem for a few years, who hasn't, it's like trying to back to being a child and when the eating all over it's the deepest pit of despair.

Seeing many episodes of freaky eaters, this episode hit the most somehow. This lady is kind spirited but you can tell she is so sad. Furthermore, sugar is so so addictive and it can literally kill you.
This is probably one of the most heartbreaking episodes of freaky eaters seeing a person this sad and filled with so much pain is rough..

Ive suffered since i was 14 with depression and anxiety I'm now 26 and it can be control with support and confidence but my eating habit was half a meal a day (one meal) and cereal bars was my junk i changed my ways now I'm eating 2 meals a day. It can be done but baby steps.

The longest I can go without sugar is probably a day. It's comforting, sugar releases oxytocin,it makes us happy. It's a great feeling and it's hard to stop because thebwe don't want to stop experiencing that feeling.

You say they picked their father over her and so we should feel sorry for her, and yet the majority of the time perfectly capable fathers are left with no custody when courts nearly automatically give full custody to mothers who may not be capable at all. There seems to be no sympathy for them? This addiction is her own choice.
Respect to this beautiful woman and her loving son, self improvement is to be applauded.
She made me cry because I feel her loneliness exactly like what I live with right now. Abandon from outside life and no support or tru love or care you tend to create your own support and for me is sleep and antisocial behavior mainly depressed and sadness. Sometimes crave for sweet and junk food. It’s a circle of depression. May god help us all
they should be focusing on her mental health because that’s the reason behind her eating. She needs to talk about what triggered this and healthy ways to cope with it

Sugar and food release dopamine, high stimulation that similar to sex and illicit drug use. It’s obvious she used sugar to make herself to feel good in order to deal with her breakup and loss of her children.

I love how they’re really tackling this loneliness diagnosis with literally everything except for “maybe join a knitting circle!” or “how about look for some friends” and then give her tools for confidence.
After every scene of a breakthrough they’re like “look at her, she’s doing so much better, look at this lesson she learned” like it’s because of their sugar lesson but it’s not; it’s because they gave her what she wants, which is people to spend time with.
She’ll be able to quit the sugar addiction once she’s able to be comfortable independently and doesn’t feel so lonely, though it’s not going to be fun. I’m sure she will be feeling sick for quite a while and her palate (sp?) will be very…well, food probably won’t taste good to her for a good bit. Best of luck to her!!

It does hurt and what she went through is like she wanted her kids to like her. This episode is sad and even I admit being alone means yeah you don’t have frustrations. I could relate my first ex who I work with kept asking if I was okay like literally a week after our relationship ended. I wanted to be left alone and I told her to give me more time. She got mad at me because I didn’t feel like talking to her and that I talk to other people (friends and family). Mind you she dumped me. And that hurt me to the extent being alone was the best and only option. It hurts but I do feel sad to admit that being alone was the best outcome for the people I knew. Because I do think maybe I was the problem. It just my heart broke when I heard her say and agreed being alone means you have no frustrations.

Amen. Her kids need to step up and be there for her. Talk to her. Help her get a game plan together. It's not that hard, she took care of you, all it takes is conversation. Call each other, 3 times a day for a week. You only have to talk for 5 minutes each time but that would help to feel like someone is there all day.

Her family damaged her. Like she said - she finds comfort in eating sugar, to fulfill that lonely feeling. She’s broken and it is absolutely heartbreaking! She didn’t deserve this!

I really didn’t like the way the son was acting,calling her selfish when he hasn’t visited her in 15 YEARS?This poor woman need some love,some family or even a pet.She just wants something to make her feel happy :(

Only read if you want to! I have the same sort of problem as this poor lady. I feel what she is going through. When you are very addicted to sugar and so dependent on it, it makes you feel like you don’t have to help yourself, you get the sugar to help you, and if you are going through a stressful week, or you have something big coming up ect, the sugar makes all the thoughts go away. It makes you feel like you just stop what you’re doing and forget about all the bad stuff. I do suffer from headaches, stomach pains and extreme nausea daily. I also find I have breakouts frequently. My face can sometimes turn bright red and I can’t cool down. I hate it. I’m currently trying to improve my diet since I am young. I hope this lady is doing well today. Thanks for looking at this comment.
