    Crows are seriously amazing.
This guy just solved a 3 stage puzzle using tools, which is typically something only primates can do.
They also have incredibly good memories in regard to remembering where they (or other birds that they can steal from) have hidden their food. Good memory isn't uniquely human, but it's still something that defines us.
In the exploding toad cases a few places around the world, crows had learned and taught each other where the liver of toads are. They simply flew over to the toads, poked out and ate the nutricious liver, and entirely circumvented all if the chemical defenses of the toads. A side effect of this was that the lungs of the toads often got punctured, leading to the thing exploding 0o
Lastly, crows can use pretty much anything as a tool (just like humans). There was a case where crows had started using cars to crack nuts. Imagine the thought process; This nut is too hard for me to open up, twigs won't smash it, and I can't pick up rocks with my beak. But over there is a place (a road), and heavy things (cars) move (drive) on it. If I place the nut over there, the things will move over it, and the nut will crack. I can imagine even a primate would have a hard time figuring that one out, and this is an animal with a brain roughly the size of a marble 0o

***** There is absolutely no doubt that crows are highly intelligent, this video is evidence of that. There is also little doubt that primates, specifically Chimpanzee's and Bonobo's are also highly intelligent. But until they can build the internet, land on the moon, or split the atom, Homo sapiens will remain the "smartest of them all". For one can still respect nature and all it's beauty while being at the top.

It's good to be proud of human accomplishment, but imagine the task of an individual thrust into the wilderness with no resources other than his/her wits. Even given the advantage of knowing what's possible, would it be possible to recreate it without a worldwide collaborative effort? It's only with the luxury of food and shelter provided for by others that there's sufficient time to put forth developing the building blocks of technology.
If you're starving and running away from tigers trying to make a meal of you, you won't be thinking how cool it would be to develop a transistor.

1:when they found any type of nut/peanuts

4:they wait on the tree until the light turn to green

6:the next red light they fly to the cracked nut/peanuts and start eating.

At the border of South Australia and West Australia is a fruit checking station. Some fruit is not allowed to be taken in to WA. I watched a crow salvage a tomato from a rubbish bin. Someone had dropped the tomato, in a plastic shopping bag, in the bin. The crow picked up the bag by one handle and swung it until the other handle caught on the side of the bin. It then tore the bag allowing the tomato to drop. It then retrieved its meal.

This is taken from a wonderful video called "A Murder of Crows" which is owned by PBS or someone. Anyhow what I wanted to say is this. The crow was not trained to do this. You are watching the very first time it was placed in this environment with the needed twig on the string. The crow combined what it had previously learned and made a tool to get another tool to get the food. The video also shows that crows are extremely good a human facial recognition. Almost frighteningly so. If you have a chance to see it, it is worth the half hour or so. Cheers.

anyone who has ever just watched crows in the nature must have noticed that these animals are really smart.
one example is, when they sit on a road because theres food for example and they see a car coming, they only hop on the curb, because they know that cars wont drive on the curb. sometimes they even hop on the other lane. if you see a pigeon though, they almost always fly off

    • @odietamo9376
      @odietamo9376 2 года назад

Not the city pigeons where I live. They are serious daredevils. They just barely step out of the way of passing cars, cyclists, pedestrians, buses, and trucks. They will keep pecking at something on the edge of a crowded sidewalk with people constantly passing by, apparently able to judge who is a threat and who isn’t; they realize most people don’t even notice them, or don’t care. When I am riding my bike they sometimes fly right down the middle of the street just front of me, swooping up a little bit just in time to avoid an oncoming vehicle. They are very acrobatic flyers with impressive street smarts.

Not just primates. You would be amazed at how intelligent horses are, and they have used tools as well to get to food, or to let themselves in and out of their stalls or the pasture. They are great escape artists.

I think on behalf of the rest of the world I'll have to throw that back and say:
"...if you're not from this country, mind your own affairs and leave our democracy to us."

I remember when the US was left to do democracy 13 years ago and it destabilized the middle east and flooded Europe with refugees.

***** It has something to do with the legitimacy of non-americans voicing their opinions about american politics. Minding our own affairs means we have to pay atttention to yours. When you do not get your shit together we suffer, and electing a tyrant like Trump would make the world suffer.

    Crows can be very intelligent...
While in Boston the other day, I was walking down the road when I saw a chicken standing on the shoulder...just standing there...
I wondered why it didn't cross the road, then I heard it...a crow flying high above crying out its warning, "Cah..! Cah..! Cah..!!!"

During summer last year I was watching a crow on a plot of grass near my house. It turned over one of the many clumps of dried grass cuttings and put something under it, then covered it up.
It then flew off to a nearby roof.
About 30 seconds later a different crow landed and started searching through the clumps of grass until it found the item the first one had hidden. It then flew over to where the first one was.
I'm convinced they were playing a game.

I think it's very important to search for animal intelligence. When we learn that common everyday animals like crow can be intelligent like this, it might make us to think twice before hurting them. Like, I live in countryside, and it's common thing there people shoot these birds on fields. I can get it as agriculture is their living and everything depends on that, but still I keep on wondering, if there could be another, less violence way to "negotiate". Haha, you can call me weird :D

Yea, they doesn't :D But they do understand some kind of concept of "mine" and "yours", according to studies made in laboratories. Though I'm not sure if it's possible to use that knowledge in farms...
