Some people are just dumb or less intuative than others. Almost all of this stuff is based on observation an mimicking (pretty much animals learning from parents) or natural behaviour.
The cat with the bell under the cups is probably using his superior hearing and not his eyesight. He hears the bell ringing and sliding and hitting the cup. If you ever watched a cat hunt, they can hear a bug or mouse in the other room and run into the room to the spot where the noise came from. They can pinpoint noise unlike a human that knows the direction and hiw close the noise is, but they have to get a lot closer to pinpoint it.
