As an Audi mechanic if you plan on doing a lot of diy on your r8 pick up a set of triple square sockets. I don't know about the 2020 but the older gens of r8 use them all over the place. Also watch out for aluminum and torque to yield bolts.
Going to second the aluminum thing. Wasn't paying attention and pulled the threads straight out of the aluminum valve cover for the PCV on an EA888.3. Risky risky helicoil right there
I definitely saw some triple square bolts on the vehicle.
VAG loves their XZN/Triple Squares. Even my old 2000 Passat B5 had those when I had to change the driver side locking mechanism.
As a Volkswagen nerd who worked at a VW only wrecking yard for a bit, can confirm triple square bits make most things so much easier. Torque plus angle isn't that common on most stuff, only once you get into engine and transmission stuff does that show up.
OMG triple square. Found those bastards on my 3.0T Q5. Ordered a set of sockets from amazon. Worked great on the super simple install of the trans mount insert.
It's been a long awaited one, I kept checking the channel from time to time to see if I had missed anything
I've been doing the same all this time haha
Big wang for the win
Yess! Another video! Congratulations on your new r8! If I bring my Gallardo to LA area we will have to go on a rip!! Big fan of cars and PCs!
Was not expecting to see you guys here! :)
Right! I'd say if Jay goes for a "performance upgrade", I would think a Super Charger would be a good option. Not CRAZY power but still a nice boost.
I did not know you guys were into pc
When you said "R8" in the beginning, I was picturing one of the early ones, or atleast first generation. Never would have thought you were the type to buy such a new super car.
And then you work on it yourself. That's amazing.
Big respect for the DIY approach, can never have too many people in the enthusiast / car modding scene, even if I’m not a huge fan of the spoiler lol
I did an internship in a tuning shop recently and coincidentally they had to do this exact job when I was there. Let me tell you this isn't easy, even for experienced mechanics. Good job Jay. Cool that you do this kind of stuff yourself.
R8 is such a beautiful car. Congrats Jay!
Oh lord I needed more Car content, I want to be also a PC/Car enthusiastic and you Jay are exactly the example I'm pursuing. love the mod, hope you VF supercharge it
Do it! Get something cheap and fun that's a bit older so you can work on it. It's a fairly rewarding hobby! Nothing like pouring literal blood, sweat, and tears into your weekend warrior car then taking it out for a cruise to enjoy the fruits of your labor.
I'm all about PC stuff, cars, and guns. I'm super into all of it.
So happy you're able to get a car like this. I said it back when you got the Camaro, and I'll say it again now. I love seeing the people I follow become more and more successful. Motivates me to push myself forward!
The spoiler actually doesnt look bad, but now the front needs a splitter, it would make the car look really aggressive.
Also, If I could ask, did the second camaro thing go anywhere? Or am i misremembering things. I remember the one you bought being straight up fucked, so you picked up another shell, but since then i saw nothing about it.
He posted some updates on Instagram, the second chassis was restored and is currently being painted iirc.
Same I like the Camaro vids.
IIRC He swapped the body and is still working on it just with the new one.
He's been giving updates on the Camaro project on his Instagram.
Yea, A carbon ground effect kit (lip+skirts at least) would go a long way tying the whole thing together.
You might wanna check the front trunk for the lock, it's usually placed alongside the first aid kit and/or any emergency tools.
Not a car enthusiast in practice, but I have a healthy appreciation for cars, DIY, and the driving experience. Got here from your other channel. I could listen to the three of you go on for hours, don't care what the topic is. Thanks for the quality content!
I've followed you for 5 years now. you took me from a cyberpower $600 fx 8300/rx 560 to now a 9900k/3080ti. And your a car guy. I could always tell. You made car references a lot while watercooling lol
Looks great! So glad to see you working on car stuffs again. I stuck a wing on the back of my Miata cause I felt that it needed something. It's ridiculous and obnoxious, but that's why I love it
Listening to jay tell Nick how to shine a light brings PTSD of helping my dad swap clutches on a few of our cars over the years. Scary times.
That plastic impact set is so underrated, thanks for putting that on my radar.
Awesome video Jay, I love watching your car stuff and seeing how into you are. I may never own a car like this but just being along for the ride is enough for me to appreciate it, fantastic work and beautiful car! Keep up the great work!
Was excited you were doing the 67 project and was sad that it didn't pan out well, thought you were gonna give up on this channel. But now this video brought me joy, the channel is back.
Just bought a 150k super car and Jay is already taking it apart to mod it. A car guy after my own heart. I was wondering if you would post more car content especially on the Camero but this is just as good. 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
A great final shot but at 25:26 it looks like a unholy cross between a lotus elise and a fairlady z.😁🤭
I always love seeing people work their asses off for cool stuff, and this 2nd channel is a great showcase of that, both in the effort involved in the mods and also the cool cars you've been able to work towards from the hard work yall've done on main channel
I missed this channel. Thanks for the new content and please try not to leave it so long before the next video Jay 👍
Would definitely ceramic coat that wing, I used to live in Vegas which is pretty much the same as your climate and we all took precautions against UV damage even with garage queens on all carbon pieces. Or just do the whole car and benefit from having the easiest to clean vehicle ever. Glad you're back on this channel!
Such good taste Jay, I’m always impressed by your automotive choices.
and this is why i love my B6 A4, sitting right at 500whp and awd....so much fun. and the 6 speed in it makes it a blast. can't wait to see it done.
Love my midrange Autel scan tool for my regular car type fleet. Been handy when issues come up and makes it easier to track it down without wasting time. Car makers are making it almost impossible to do anything to your own car without a scan tool these days and you have one that should be able to do almost anything to that car.
Just did the install yesterday. Great video. A few quick ways to speed things up. The first 2 pieces don't need removed, if you're crafty the bolts held by the carbon are accessible without moving the engine bay pieces. The center bolt (3rd and last bolt) that holds that piece on, can be removed with an extension through the grill as Audi leaves a hole to remove it (shown at 9:02 in the video). To get tray out which was the hardest part, you don't need to unbolt the assembly. 1st remove those chrome pieces that he left on in the video which gives you an extra 1/8th of an inch. After, move the tray to the right bc there is a notch section that you can slide that first post out. After that it's cake. Last thing. The brackets you are putting in to attached the spoiler to, you can move those up or down slightly to make your deck level with your fenders. The other thing we did was drill out the brackets attached to the tray and then add washers on top so we had maneuverability to move the tray back/forth/left right to make the deck evenly spaced so it aligned perfect. Hope this helps. Only tool you need that's not torx is the bolt that holds the spoiler itself. My friend had the tool but I believe its a special audi socket. This video was a tremendous help, thanks JayzTwoCars!
congrats Jay! absolutely love R8's, looking forward to more videos on the car. spoiler looks great
I hope next year, we'll get to see an update on the classic Camaro. 😁
Lmao at the CS flash bang. I love Phil's edits....he's my hero.
This why I love modding cars, for me, I'm not a fan of the spoiler. But, its not my car I don't have to be, you do however, respect the effort and the passion of someone else doing the modding to their vehicle. It's a really nice clean change
Welcome to the R8 fam! :) I'm a member and must say, I love it... It's such a perfect car with timeless style
Ride is looking amazing. Definitely need to see some more of it as you continue to tweak
So happy been asking for awhile for more car content. Especially pumped for r8 vids been expecting it since I seen the Instagram post.
Wooo! Finally! Hell yeah!! MUCH EXCITED! Congrats again on the sick AF garage upgrade! Can’t wait to see more content here!
I LOVED that sign off, cant wait till next year!
Aaahh finally a video from this channel!! Looks soooo good Jay!!!
Finally! I missed it so much, you working on cars! God bless, please keep it more consistent this time with this car, I really enjoy all your work! Thanks for putting a smile on my face right now! 😉
Hell yeah! Love the new car, congratulations!
The static wing looks great!
Great job Jay! That car is a beast.
Agree 💯. That looks so much better. Congrats on the fruits of your hard work my man. Inspiring to say the least.
Congrats on the R8, that’s one hell of a ride.
Awesome, congrats on the R8 and successful install of your big wing!
I'm just happy to see this channel with a post again!!!
Also, I hate those auto pop spoilers. They are just big signs that day "Good morning officer, I'm speeding right now!"
Fudge yeah! I love cars and I love Jay! Doesn't get any better than this. I'm sure you plan to, but please keep us updated on your cars.
So glad your back I check this channel like once a week lol
It's really inspiring how you have grown this youtube channel and now be able to afford a camaro and an r8
Duuude this wing you put on looks AMAZING 🤩
the R8 has been a dream car of mine since they appeared, great to see one of the loveliest creators living out a dream even if i can't!
Wow, didn't know you got that thing. Pretty cool! Also cool that you're working on it yourself. You could say that's rare in the supercar owning RUclipsr crowd lol. I don't disagree that cars with that type of design look better with a big wing, but the motorized ones are just super cool to me. I'd be torn between taking it off and keeping it on if it were my car.
That's also cool that there's a OBDII to USB adapter and freeware for your car, especially considering it's pretty much a supercar. They also have the same thing for Ford cars. I have one for my truck, and it saved me from a couple hundred dollar visit to the dealership.
My interior lights weren't coming on when I opened the doors back when I first got my truck. The door sensors were working as the dash displayed the door ajar warnings properly. I checked the interior bulbs and they were all good. Next was the sockets. No voltage. Checked all the fuses and they were fine. I even replaced them to be sure. Still, nothing. Finally I found one forum post from years ago that was buried in the Google results where someone had the same issue. This had a vague suggestion regarding the adapter cable and freeware, called FORscan (Yeah, not the best name. Really sounds like something that covers "Richard's" head when you say it out loud). I then had to dig through forums to get all the info I needed about the software. Finally, hours and hours of troubleshooting and research later, I received my cable and installed the software. As soon as I connected it, I saw my problem. The BCM (Body Control Module) can throw codes, just like your ECM does when you see a check engine light. The only difference being that a CEL is not triggered from BCM codes. Turns out the BCM detected a short in the circuit that powers the interior lights when the doors are opened and disabled the circuit and threw a code. Seeing as I had insured all bulbs, sockets, and fuses were good I cleared the code. The second I cleared the code the lights came on since I had the door open. Voila! That would've cost me at least a couple hundred bucks in diagnostic fees if I went to the dealership. Instead, all I had to do was buy a $30 cable. There's also a bunch of other parameters and settings you can play around with, including a setting to keep your fog lights on when your high beams are turned on. They call this "Bambi mode".
Funny seeing you guys use VCDS! Something that I use almost daily being a mechanic here in the UK! Love the new spoiler on the R8 by the way!
That "Deploying Flashbang" ended me. 🤣🤣🤣
new car looks amazing, glad you're posting again
Dude your car is sick. Nice job. More of these please
Always love the car content
I just started watching knight rider again myself, I remember watching it as a kid and watching it now is amazing how so much of that show has become a reality today in some form or another.
Can't wait to see more videos on this car!
Lookin gooooooood!
Can't wait for the exhaust video!!!!
Can't wait to see more car stuff Jay, keep up the good work
Thanks for the vid .. doing my conversion today .. bought all the oem to swap to plus .. not cheap haha. Appreciate the vid!
9:10 Trying to find and order that plastic impact set asap. I've been doing this manually and not using my impacts bc I've been afraid of damaging my rims. Thanks, had no idea these existed.
I had honestly forgotten that I had subbed to this channel, it'd been so long. SO glad I never unsubscribed because that car is sick looking!
After a quick glance at the thumbnail and title I thought "Oh, Jay's posting car content on the main channel again?" Only when the video didn't show up in the folder it was supposed to be I realized "that other channel" still existed and wasn't actually dead after all :]
Well done looked like a tricky install to be fair but a bit of perseverance and the good old Jay magic you got it done ✔️
looks sick. i know too well how annoying and satisfying the process can be. it was nice to see a tear down of this. thanks for this treat.
found your PC channel not too long ago and always wondered what the deal with the tires was in the background, and then boom you bust out an R8! i know I'm late, but this is too cool!
Already hyped for next years video
So cool to see a new car video, plus you brought the whole crew. Very cool Jay, fun watch too. Thanks for sharing, and also what did you do with the Camaro?
Welcome back Jay !
Jay, you're a child of the 80s and dreamt of Lambo Countach.... and that Wing is it!
I have to admit it does look a hell of a lot better with that spoiler on it good job
Congrats on the awesome ride!
Awesome! Came to your channel for computer/tech information. Subbed for that, and MORE! Fellow R8 owner here too.
This car is perfect! Congrats on the new toy
Thanks for making that. I’m about to do the install of my spoiler on my R8 as well. I have an RWS model and was putting a factory wing on it. Have all the pieces. Your video will be extremely helpful. I was actually thinking of making one, then I saw yours. Nice job documenting!
It's really refreshing to see jay work on something that isn't a pc it's a nice change
Yes!! Finally a new car video. Was hoping to see more of the Camaro but this is good too. As a mechanic I can say you are one brave dude lol.
Nice work on this. The is looking lovely
WOW! This car is amazing. Congrats Jay. :)
Finally the video i've been waiting for since you announced the car on insta!
Great purchase Jay, hope you'll get a lot of Smiles per Gallon😁
Awesome video, and great content!
I did subcontracting CAD Design work for 1016 Industries for their Huracan front splitter a couple years ago.
looks amazing bro. good job
What a beauty! Congrats again on an amazing car.
That's a huge wing. Looks better than I thought it would. Much improved over the stock one.
God bless the patience you all have to work on that, I'd have had a head ache so bad I would've thrown up in the garage.
Props to DIY'ing an R8 V10. I DIY my Mk7 GTI all the time and it's funny how much the experience is similar, what with torx bolts and removing things just to get to other things you need to remove. It's the VAG way...
Thank you car Gods for allowing another video to be posted.
I don't know if it has been mentioned yet, but wheel locks usually are in the car they belong to (in most cases, inside the tool kits that come with the car or stored with the wheel repair kit). Hope it helps !
Those cold revs hurt my heart a little but man are those r8's freaking sexy af. Glad you are getting to live out your car dreams Jay. You have definitely earned every bit of it!
It's OKay, it capped itself to a lower rev limit until it's at operating temp
Totally didn’t know you had a car channel, I’m all in man. More please
spoiler looks great. great car also. i imagine you experience a good live at a good place.
Love the boys at Kies. The best BMW channel.
Carbon wing looks awesome 👍 ditto for a matching front splitter
I like the content Jay it's fun seeing a computer geek work on cars like this. Hope to see you at SC Cars and Coffee sometime
Awesome Ride Sir.
Jay talks about this SpOiLeR a lot. But everyone knows we're all here for the golfcart with them slick wheels!
I like this spoiler the best! This was a great choice in my opinion.
Finally a new JayzTwocar video ~~~~~
Cold revving! Bad jay!
here for the car mods! +1 I love the car content and I love that you are willing to show the car content. Thanks!
Yes! JayzTwoCars! Finally the R8
