YAY, Nick! Best pandemic content gift ever; nice to see two old buddies get to hang during all of this.
Pretty sure they got corona now. Just kidding
@@venividivici4253 Hey as long as they are just knocking back some corona and not contracting corona, I'm all for it!
@@goodmanale Dude, they still selling that thing?
@@perryinsanfrancisco lol I assume you mean selling quarantine content? No not at all, I just consider it that personally since I've pretty much been confined to my own house/garage for the past few months (besides the office). It's nice to watch fresh content.
This will be a half mill car by the time it's done lol!
ALWAYS buy from Summit racing when you like a product but don't like their service. Summit will eat the costs to make you happy and leverage their buying power against the manufacture on their own time to get shit right. How do I know, I worked there.
This was from Summit
@@Jayztwocents That's interesting, I would have thought Summit customer support would have been all over Hotchkis for you. I'm very curious to see how this plays out and I hope you get your money back for the mismatched kit.
Yup, Summit is amazing. They CARE about their customers! Anything like this, I only order from Summit. I wish they had brick and mortar stores in cities where people actually live (Like Phoenix)... I could get lost there, that is my candy store.
@@Jayztwocents did you call them to handle the issues or hotchkiss? I know you would think a company would handle their own issues but most of them honestly have no intention of providing support to the public. they want to deal with resellers only. Seems that way with a lot of engineering companies. make great products but suck at the human side.
agreed. going through big time suppliers like that is often worth a little mark-up on the price of the parts because you know you have the backing of a big company that actually gives a hoot about its customers. my folks have been going with summit for many years because of that
3:54 Mrs Jay looking very entertained back there lmao
It's great seeing Nick again collaborating with Jay on video
I dont know anything about cars, But i still enjoy watching thid vids
and not understanding anything lol
lol same I like cars but not enough to try build/fix one myself xD
Lol sameeeeee... I also like cars but I basically know nothing about them and never know what they're talking about in these videos but still love em lol
Yeah, I just watch for moments like when Jay decides his face needs some hammer time.
I know a lot about cars, and I end up shouting "not like that!" and "no, the other way" a lot, but i really really enjoy these videos. I also build pcs obvs, but Jayz is a hell of a lot better at that. Maybe that's why I enjoy seeing him hurt himself fixing cars!!!!!! :)
Go watch Scotty kilmer he's funny plus he explains things in a nice way. The best part he will tell you want cars to stay away from and why.
at 5:30 i literally thought about that song💀im so glad you didnt miss the opportunity
"so apparently I can jump the car..."

Jay, June 2020
It's 5AM in the UK and I'm watching this over my first coffee of the day. ☕
A fellow lad i see, 5:06 here
5 is usually when I go to sleep.
That eye roll @ 3:54. LOL!
as someone who is also rebuilding a car at them moment ('69 el Camino) I genuinely find so much enjoyment out of this series. Keep up the good shit Jay.
Man it's great to see NIck again, and hear that great chuckle.
Lol Mrs. Jay @3:54. Gotta let the boys be boys
They are Autozone Jack stands lol. Anyways Jay I'm a "retired" ASE master tech. if you ever need a possible wrong answer or advise hit me up lol. I have a "fair bit" of knowledge. Outside of that I love seeing a tech tuber into cars. You inspired me to start my own channel after injury stopped me from being a tech. Good luck and please be safe!
I know these videos don’t get the exposure or views that the other channel gets, but I really enjoy the videos and I’m thrilled to not be the only computer nerd who’s also a car guy. Hope you keep these going, thanks for putting the time and effort into making them.
Echoing everyone else, I am so glad you and Nick are still doing the things together!
You definitely won't regret going with the Holley EFI. Not talking from personal experience, but seeing it on Roadkill and some other Motortrend shows made it look incredibly appealing :)
Jay not saying the shocks were shocking expensive really disappoints me
I'm super happy you're going EFI.
It's fun watching a creator venture outside his area of expertise and into a topic that you know a lot about. Not hacking on Jay, I think it's great he's out there doing it. It's just funny hearing him confidently explain car tech to a computer tech audience.
Also, your choice of EFI and also an LS7 is perfect. Well done. Can't wait to see the progress!
3:52 The missus looks like she's not happy to be in the garage while Jay is doing "car stuff". Very much the same as when they drag us guys to the mall etc to shop for fashionable "clothes stuff" :D
Congrats on the growth Jay!
This channel had 43k subs when I first realized you had a car channel.
So glad to see Nick back! Miss your and his shenanigans
Would you look at that a wild coconutmnky has appeared!
careful..... you don't want your statue pulled down.
Jay, loving the Camaro content. As far as spring compressors go, they do make a style of coil spring compressor that should fit your Camaro. I had an old S10 with a similar front suspension setup, and a tool like the OEMTOOLS 27035 worked great for compressing the spring. I've done it once like you did in the video, and still had the spring jolt out on me. The tool is definitely worth the $50 or so.
Damn jay knows so much about tech and cars. Maybe someday i will be knowledgeable about one of these things. No idea what he's saying about car stuff but i just enjoy worklogs/ things being out together lol.
Jay I stopped at timestamp 14:39. You can compress those springs however its a specialty tool and is expensive. essentially its a three pieces of metal, two plates and a all thread. You slide two of the pieces between the coils and then thread the all thread rod through. I had to find some from Amazon and it cost me around 200 dollars at the time.

This is what I had to purchase when dealing with springs like these
@ JayzTwoCents not vary savy in this media thus why i apologize for tagging you so late vuce in the first post
I clicked like as soon as Nic appeared! These two are a dynamic duo!
Great log video of the rebuild. This is beginning to be a great series. Thanks for this Jay!
Installing a new suspension? SHOCKINGLY difficult
ah, the mortal coil
5.28 That beat drop on the suspension squeak... Epic.
ah man, i missed Nick so much , glad to see you back m8
I hope you'll come out to Autoclub in Fontana in August with Speed Ventures. I'm going to be testing my new C5 Z06 race build out there that day. Would be cool to meet you and check out your ride. Chevy bros!
I dont track my cars in the summer heat. Times are slow, fatigue and stress on the car is high.
For the shocks, I'd look into Bilstiens. Probably some of the best riding shocks out there.
First time I have ever watched a video which has been uploaded for about an hour without any dislike. The reason for this might be because 1. the car is so cool, you can't hate it. 2. Jay makes every video so enjoyable and funny that you can't hate it xD
Good to see you again Nick.
Hey Jay! I used to be a mechanic at Peterbilt and whenever I had to removed tierods I would hit the "meety" part or wher the tierod attaches with a sledge on the side. If you hit the threaded part on the top you can actually mushroom that bolt part and get it more stuck. Hitting the side will slowly break it loose. Love the videos!
What this video doesnt show was the 15 minutes of hitting it without luck. I ended up just using my tie rod remover
This is my first video on this channel completely enjoyed it. Keep on keeping on. Also heck yeah Nick's back!!
Nick we miss you!
Yay Nick is back!
Jay you should do a follow up on the biking and weight loss. I think it would be a great video and you could help many folks. Maybe diet advice too. Great job keeping the weight off.
yay nick is back
Might have a headache of a time tossing in a new subframe considering the wreck. Something to keep in mind before you realize shit's fucked. Righteous build, stay healthy, keep it up.
I think you will enjoy the holley Efi system. the only thing to be careful with is the in tank pump. The terminal ends on the pump can touch the tank if you don't install right. I like the fact that i can control my Holley Sniper with the on board controller or my laptop.
Great to see Nick again back on the channel :D
Thumbs up on seeing Nick!!
Great to see nick again ♥
We are very happy to see that Coconut monkey is well and safe in this rough times... and, you know that you are in the firsts steps of a big trouble when "mom" have to watch two idiots play with an expensive big noisy toy !!!
Yes Nick is back
It's not every day someone drops a NKOTB reference xD
Jay. Wow. Jay... When you're taking a ball joint loose, ESPECIALLY tie rod ends, you hit the cast steel where the ball joint shaft goes through. That will break the friction bond between the two without damaging the threads or the dust boot. You can even see the spot ON THE CASTING OF THE SPINDLE where you're supposed to hit.
Dont think just because you saw a 3 second clip that you know the whole story. I hit every single spot of the cast body of that tie rod end for nearly a half hour. Damn thing wasnt coming off. Which is why I used the Tie Rod End puller (which Phil for some reason edited out... he always seems to cut out something important lol) and the next clip made it look like I was using the picklefork... bad editing made it look incorrect.
@@Jayztwocents I've had my fair share of fights with pitman arms not wanting to come free of a steering box, but I've never had a ball joint shaft not come free of a knuckle. Then again, I do use a 3 lb maul to do it.
I've got two pairs of the Harbor Freight jack stands... Taking them in for the recall tomorrow. Yay for spending more money on different ones...
If you had uploaded this 55 minutes ago Jay... It would've been the best birthday gift ever :(. Great vid tho :D
To get the tie rod off, just hit the casting hard with a big hammer fast and easy. Saves the tierod vs the pickle fork if you need to reuse it too
Your going to like that holley efi settup much better! Carb is outdated, and limits what you can do on fine tuning. With the holley efi, you can have a track car that performs, while also not sacrificing streetability for long trips and daily driving
my dad had a 70 SS Chevelle LS6 454 we rebuilt when I was in highschool. Love old muscle cars even though I'm a euro guy now.
For me it was a '69 (nice) Roadrunner with the 383.
My dads got a 72 Ford f100 with a 460 big block
i like both your channels im a car guy and a pc guy .. love the car
putting a bigger swaybar in the front and not putting one in the back or putting stiffer springs in the bak will make it understeer more since you make the front wheels absorbe more of the sideloading, this is why you can adjust the over/understeer balance of the car using adjustable swaybars.
Been wanting to do a Holley EFI conversation on my C10! Can’t wait to see your videos about it.
Knok on wood😂😂😂😂 and the law and order bit just made it better.
@JayzTwoCars do a lowering shackle I've had some experience with my truck being lowered 8 inches in the rear and took out my blocks vs a lowering shackle. Be sure to check pinion angle though! Big thing
We have various angle pinion angle shims. We are good.
computers vids and car vids, my kind of content 👍
You can get spring compressors in and it is safer (says a guy who has owned a 67 for 30 years). Had you been doing maintenance with a newer spring you would have had a much bigger jump when the ball joint separated.
I am curious to see if you are going to start having collector meets ground issues with the two inch drop kit.
I just showed in this video the ride height changed only .5" from the tired spring height... so why would I suddenly have ground clearance issues?
QA1 - can't recommend them enough. Can't speak for your platform though. Glad you are going EFI as well. Carbs are great, but long term EFI makes all the difference. Especially since I know the goal is more of a reliable cruiser that can be taken out to the strip/course.
QA1 makes complete suspensions for my car. For now this is the path Ive chosen. That may change in the future.
Interference on the upper CA appears to be just on the zerk fitting. Should be able to remove it and cover the holes so you don't damage your fitting or threads.
Oh perfect time I got out of work (at 1am) around when this went out
last time i did ball joints on my car i put the castle nut on and the new coder pins in. about 8 hours later one castle nut (somehow i managed to find it) came off while (LUCKLY) pulling into my driveway not on the highway. turns out the coder pins that came in the balljoint kit were def smaller than factory ones but they sheared off. got thicker coder pins from a tractor surplus store down the road that was almost 2x as thick. never had an issue since. glad i was in my own driveway and didnt have it fall apart down the highway that i just drove down.
When Some cut started playing I lost it 😂
had to pause the vid to drop a tip. when you are trying to get ball joints loose hit the part the taper goes into with a heavy hammer and they will pop off and not destroy the boot or the threads.
when you hammer on the tie rod ends, put the castle nut on upside down and screw it on til its level with the bolt part so when you hammer on it you dont wreck the threads or the castle parts of the bolt, you can wham on it much harder .. i find the ball joint splitters can wreck the rubber boots when their not new like yours were
I used a tie rod remover tool to get it off. Phil just edited this in such a way that made it look like I used the picklefork on it, which I didnt.
@@Jayztwocents ah ok, i just seen you whacking it without a bolt on top of it, i have damaged many tierod ends that way over the years i just thought you would like to know the upside down bolt thing that made my life easier, espesually on 4x4 suspention that can be alot more heavy duty, i have broken tie rod end removal tools, now i dont even bother with any of that, just put the bolt on upside down and wham it off lol, no more wrecked threads and no more split rubber boots
I've missed Nick in the videos. You need to get him to do more.
Omg he is back!
Some amazing people doing amazing things on DA car. Seems complicated. Here to learn a thing or two.
LMAOOO @ the suspension edit.
I put QA1 coilovers on my '68 camaro. They work good with the Hotchkis control arms and drop spindle.
Oh hey Nick is back! At least for the day.
Good to see Nick is still around somewhere. Glad the ronabad didn't get him.
Hooray coconutmnky! Good to see him again. Also, WTF Hotchkis?!
For what-it's-worth, those notches in the castle battlements are called crenels or crenellations. In case you were...you know...interested.
Woot woot nick glad to see him again in a video
Jay go with Ridetech, they also have a new line out you may like.
I love seeing my favorite computer man work on cars too its awesome
You have the same ADT alarm that i have and when someone opened and close the door in your video i thought someone was just walking in to my house at 3am 🤣
Just got my Fox 2.5 coilovers with Dsc for my F150, I was dissapointed what condition they were in. Deep cuts in the remote reservoir, scuffs on the coils, stickers damaged ect on a product that goes for about $2,000 on any site. I heard about Fox's customer service being bad and sending the wrong stuff from friends in my truck group but I never 100% believed them. It really blows my mind how in the PC world if you buy from the best you also get the best cs support but Fox and BDS really drop the ball here. Though I'm just gonna deal with the damaged parts because I'm just gonna ding them up when I use my truck off road.
I had nothing but good experience with my BDS kit for my Ram... same with their coil overs... but I have heard horror stories.
Don't play with race cars, just off-roaders so can't speak to it too much, but Bilstien has always treated me GREAT if there was an issue or a special-use case. A++ customer service AND products. Just dunno if they do cars...have to assume they do?
Project looks fun. Though the standard LS swap....ok, at least it's a Chevy! Way to go getting that EFI sponsor...lucky dog. Buddy of mine is going to build and turbo the 292 from his 64 C10, going EFI. That will be a fun project and my first "street truck".
the law and order sound killed me. lmao
Detroit speed has a complete sub frame assembly as well, i would do your research & look into it vs the Hotchkis
Im not interested in their subframe or the $10k price tag
yay NICK here weclome back bro
21:25 shockingly expensive you might say.
Hey jay they may make coil overs which will be able to do a lot more adjustments. And the good thing is your car is light so it an option to do.
Those guys over there at Holley are great and make a great product
Solution to all the legroom and headroom arguments for Jay is Chevrolet SS (Holden Commodore) as it has literally all the space that anyone would ever want or need.
I have to remove the rear springs in my Focus similar to how yours came out. Jack under the rear control arm and remove the bolt. Then slowly lower the jack taking the pressure off until the spring just falls out.
The harbor freight lolz.....thank you jay!!
Watching a video with two gorgeous muscle cars and yet every chance I get my attention is on the Madone on the wall
Adjustable shoks are the way to go to dial in the perfect launch in drag racing.
I heard fox shocks are mostly a brand thing & not really best performance. So I'm looking forward to your long term reviews to either support or debunk what I've been told.
Yay!!!!!! Nic is back 😁👌😊😊
I was searching for some of your Ryzen reviews (lol) and stumbled across this. It's awesome that you do car stuff too. Subbed!
I vaguely remember nick from your other channel lol what did he used to do in your previous videos lol
Videographer and editor. Phil does it nowadays!!!
