Apparently Some Nintendo Leaks Were Google’s Fault

- A Google employee was responsible for a bunch of Nintendo-related leaks some years ago, according to a newly-revealed report.

Nintendo: This is corporate espionage.
The People: This is a violation of our privacy.
The Gov't: This violates COPPA.
Google: We took care of it. Trust us.
The American government literally worked with Google to silence people's speech
Who cares about COPPA? COPPA was the worst thing to ever come to RUclips, can't comment on videos "Made For Kids" just so you can advertise RUclips Kids, RUclips kids doesn't do anything, no kid is gonna go there cuz they know most of the stuff there is boring af, like, you're not even protecting kids at that point, you're doing the opposite, cuz even kids know that you should be able to comment on videos no matter what
@@sb14andmore50 content on youtube kids is for kids who don't know how to wright if a kid older than 4 still watches that bullshit I don't know what to tell him, also not being able to comment is to prevent kids from offensive comments, imagine going to the comments as a kid just to find out people swearing at each other, or let's assume you know how to write and you wrote an innocent comment just for some dude to start swearing at you for no reason, even 17 year old me got hurt when someone started swearing at me in a video game, I stopped watching videos about controversial topics for a while, I avoided comment sections in all social media platforms I got so sensitive I didn't even want to see people arguing, whenever I see people swearing at each other my heart starts beating fast and breathing becomes hard for me, of course that guy swearing at me wasn't the only thing that did that to me it was a series of events that happened to me all on social media platforms, I recovered from that but imagine that for a child, and let's be honest no child would bother reading the comments
btw my name is a result of me being too sensitive to what people say, just to show that I like what I enjoy and I don't care what people think of it, you'd expect a child to be more sensitive than that
@@sb14andmore50 COPPA is a good thing and you should be thankful it exists at all. Blame RUclips for outright saying they're violating it and then doing a half-assed job at fixing it.
@@sb14andmore50 COPPA is a scam, only people who don't understand the real world fall for such nonsense. The trick is to make it sound reasonable on paper, because you know people will never read the research literature on such things. Other examples are how security on airports stop no one who is not totally stupid from bringing a gun to the plane and researchers showed this, or how co2 certificates have no impact on reducing co2 but made some people very rich.
Nintendo could take legal action against Google for going against its policy of leaking confidential information.
And on the flip side also pressure Google to go harder on tackling emulation as the 'settlement'.
They should.
Normally I wouldn't like this, but Google is an incredibly evil company especially with some of their recent partnerships. Hopefully the ninjas entangle them in a years long lawsuit.
There's a fight for the ages.
Mark my words Nintendo will file a lawsuit.
Everyone just needs to understand that any "privacy" these companies promise you is based entirely on everyone following the rules, which, if you know anything about humans, you know is absolutely not a guarantee
We seem to have structured most of our society around the idea that those in power won't abuse said power while being a species whose main flaw is people abusing power
I'm really afraid to ask but...what made you think this? doesn't have to be a complex answer.
Imagine risking your job at Google to see some Nintendo games early
Compared to the child predators Google defends without regard
Google funds Project Nimbus. I think their depravity of conscious goes a tad deeper. Just a hunch.
I would tbh

Not sure they "fixed" the recommending stuff based on deleted watch history, that still happens for me😭😭😅😅
Same. They've been doing that for videos I deleted years ago.
It doesn't delete it from Google's servers
Me too if anything it’s gotten worse not better
I've told RUclips not to save my watch history, haven't turned it back on for over five years, and I still get recommendations based off of videos I just recently watched.
there is no relationship between watch history and recommendations
Ah, so that's why I got the same recommendations after deleting my watch history after my sibling accidentally used my account. Yeah, that's no good
This was 2018-2013 so if it happened recently I don't think it was because of that
@@ryko1478That's because the report was from then, there's no real indication of change.
what's the problem if the algorithm still remembers what content you like? it's not like your watch history wasn't actually deleted, and the algorithm seems to forget what you like so quickly if you find new interests even without deleting your watch history, mine is filled with persona and zelda videos but my recommendations are mostly valurant and I have only started playing it last week
@@ShinMegamiTenseiEnjoyer buddy if you deleted it, it probably means you don't like it
@@ryko1478 that doesn't prove anything, that only proves that the algorithm is flawed for not realizing that, and might even prove my point that the recommendations have nothing to do with watch history
Google seems to like pissing both Sega and Nintendo off
Google could buy out both companies. I'm not sure they care

FINALLY, codename Linguini Platinum sees the light of day! I've been speculating for HOURS. Cool to see it's real.
Ha I understood that reference
I still don't understand the codename 😭
Nah, I still think it’s the pikmin 4 review coming to the Actual Arlo channel later today.
Platinum for 4 (bronze silver gold platinum)
And linguini for noodle shaped/carrot shaped.
@@thespeedyyoshi Linguini meaning carrot is _such_ a stretch
As soon as I heard the codename, I scoured the google databases for answers
I’m someone who has access to customer data as part of my job, and one of corporate’s big things is that keeping client data secure is even more important than keeping our own stuff secure. That’s how you lose customers’ trust. Of course we have actual competitors and in many areas Google just doesn’t.
Oh yeah Arlo? One time me and my mom was in the car and we were talking about needing to get toilet paper, one when I soon after opened my phone, I was getting toilet paper ads. WHO THE HECK GETS ADS FOR TOILET PAPER?!
You
I get ads for the weirdest things.. things I would never in a million years spend on any money on! It's like my phone doesn't know me at all!
Yea anything with a mic you use is always listening to you, has been for years. Always pay attention to what youre using
@@gobbagooyou know how to disable the microphone?
Been seeing a couple crypto ads lately. I fucking hate crypto shit.
I like how you started with "all I did was say the word 'auto insurance' and then proceeded to say all this other stuff... so of course you'd get an ad lol.
4:44 I think I read an article that said basically someone found this privated video, just showed it to a friend who wasnt supposed to spread it around but, of course, they did.
Ppl gotta learn to be smart if they're gonna be sneaky. I recorded a snippet of unreleased song preview at a concert. Morally grey ik, since we were asked not to. I knew the only way to not be shitty and risk leaking it was to not send it to anyone and keep it offline. I didn't even send it to the friends I went to the concert with because it's a risk I quite frankly felt I had no right to take.
Obviously when it's completely unannounced you shouldn't even *mention* the secret thing you found, let alone show it or send a file. Dick move 🤷♀️
Google realy be like 'trust me bro'
If i had access to this insider information i would use it for gambling purposes. Just start taking bets on what is going to be announced.

didn’t that sonic guy get arrested for that
Nintendo Ninja's coming for google rn
Nintendo has almost never gone after a corporation bigger then them.
I hope for one the Nintendo ninjas go after Nintendo I have been wanting sue them for a while because of Google's privacy issues but I'm not wanting to risk money I don't have
And they will get their ass beat like they always do
@@kingzombie951 you wanted to sue Nintendo because of Google's privacy issues? you want Nintendo to go after themselves? how old are you bro?
I'm sure this got resolved behind the scenes back in 2017.
RUclips even strikes videos that are privated or deleted
I just don’t vibe with google doing things with my private stuff. I mean it has me wondering. Do they have access to my deleted videos too?
Probably? It's not like they care about you much anyways.
They either directly lied to me or no, they dont. I have pleaded to get deleted videos back and a support person told me they are literally not able, they are gone
They ABSOLUTELY do btw. People have had videos demonitized and CHANNEL STRIKES given over videos that werent even public.
@@mystraunt2705 were not talking about private or unlisted videos, were talking about deleted videos
They absolutely keep deleted videos. It's not a question of "if" they do, but a question of "how long" they do. A lot of creators have had their channels hacked and all their videos deleted. Then, if they can manage to get RUclips to help them regain control of their channels, RUclips is able to restore all the deleted videos with the original comments, view counts, and everything. They wouldn't be able to do this if they didn't keep deleted content.
Nintendo’s lawyers be like: “finally, a worthy opponent”
Nah, Nintendo’s lawyers are cowards.
They won’t go after Google even if both Nintendo and Google were evenly matched in money and power.
Ninty’s lawyers only go after individuals because normal people don’t have the power to defend themselves legally.
Google employees "accidetally" posting Nintendo corporate secrets like
"Help I accidentally build shelf"
in our household we are always talking about something and then immediately get ads for it
Arlo... right after you started talking about auto insurance, I got an ad for it. Look what you did! I don't even have a car! 🤣
did you win a car in a sweepstakes right after this comment?
That nonintentional verdict is totally just Google not wanting to get into trouble with Nintendo. Hopefully Nintendo sics the ninjas on them anyways I hate few mainstream companies more than Googs.
Nintendo is big, but Google is absolutely massive. Google could easily afford to buy out Nintendo if they really wanted to (and if Japan's laws would allow them to). Google doesn't need to worry about Nintendo solely, they need to worry about multiple companies ganging up on them.
Google has been pretty chaotic lately... What are they even doing? Idk if it's the race for AI or what but tech companies are making stupid mistakes everywhere.
If only these ads were also able to know WHEN YOU'VE BOUGHT SOMETHING ALREADY, show me something else! I already bought the damn thing already!
Does Google not have internal login history data? Whomever is attempting to look at private files regardless of whether they're authorized or not should always have a unique login signature.

If leaks didn't exist then that would be because people don't care about what the product is, they'll just consume it either way. Sure hope you've never read a review before
Avoid all articles and forum threads about them. I never looked at the TotK artbook leaks and was therefore not spoiled going in.

I've had multiple instances where I never looked up anything I never searched anything regarding a certain topic but then I would start to get ads for it. The biggest one I could think of is whenever I was talking to my spouse about wanting to get security cameras for the house... And that sure enough I started to get ads on Facebook and Google regarding security cameras.... Your phone and other devices are always listening. Remember that
Arlo's jokes are always extra spicy on TopicArlo
that story Arlo told at the end really frightened me... I haven't been able to sleep at night
I knew you would but I'm glad you are covering this. I now know that linguini is a reference for Google within your internal codename system.
We've all been there, one minute you're casually drinking coffee, the next minute, oops! You just accidentally leak the next Smash. I hate it when that happens, my mistake.
I leaked Scribblenauts that way, twice 😓
Another day, another Arlo thumbnail that could become a meme
I've said many things while my phone is unused, and then suddenly i start getting ads for some of the things i mentioned.
This is the first time I've seen "uwu" used in an Arlo thumbnail and I don't know how to feel about that.
Reminds me of the "Nintendo Switch Attach" thing a few months ago.
I really thought the story at the end would go straight from talking to a friend about auto insurance to the ad popping up, but doing research and subscribing to the topic on your Google feed turned this from a soul crushing anecdote that everyone's heard 30 million times to actually funny
So I recently started playing Dragon Quest X, which is a Japan-only game, and despite never using a VPN or anything like that all of a sudden I start getting RUclips ads in full-on Japanese.
HMMMMMM
When was it again when Google removed "dont be evil" from its code of conduct?
Seriously loving this new channel
Everything that’s been hidden is now coming into the light.
Yeah, I was talking about Poise in Elden Ring over a phone call and the next day I’m getting advertisements for “Poise” feminine products.
That story at the ends was real spooky! Now i cant sleep tonight
When you started telling that story at the end, I thought it was gonna actually be some spying type thing lmao. Never change Arlo, for all our sakes.
It all started with the Year of Luigi
While a leak is always a big deal, google leaking something of nintendos is a very big deal. Thanks for the videos Arlo, I really enjoy your content and your take on things. Keep them coming!
This cannot be “accidental”
I know this isn't exactly on topic, but Arlo I'd love to hear any of your thoughts on the CRAZY Animal Well secrets. I'm referring to the really outside the box ones. I think most of them have been solved by now so I'd love to hear your thoughts on those crazy codes and secrets
Google: Yeah, but Solid Snake though
Linguini Platinum. My friends dad works at google. He said it’s a new project Arlo’s is working on…an Arlo designed particle accelerator!
Love how a fish shaped coin formation appeared when you said the word "fishy"
Hey guys, did you know Google used to have a motto called "don't be evil"?
Their new motto is "Be evil AF".
No no its " *DO* (note!) be evil" They just forgot a letter and some punctuation.
Thanks Google. You sure now how to make it difficult to avoid spoilers 😨.
I once told my mom on the phone that I wanted to buy multivitamins. After the phone call ended I went on RUclips, first ad was multivitamins.
And that’s why I haven’t used Google search for a long time. Yeah, they still got me with Gmail and RUclips, but… at least they don’t got everything
Arlo's insurance story felt odd, it seemed like your normal "google was listening" comment but he kept qualifying it with " I talked about it, searched it up, followed specific content, then it recommended me it, spooky" so it became less a joke on sites listening and more "well, you did that to yourself"
\*tells Google he's looking for auto insurance*
\*gets an auto insurance ad from Google*
\*surprised Pikachu face*
I'm gonna assume that was a "sarcastic conspiracy theory" from Arlo ^^"
Cybersecurity professional with a couple of clarifications:
1) I know this isnt what you said, but it kinda sounded like it. Not everything on the internet is accessible by someone who owns the company you post your stuff to. This may be true of Google, but there are plenty of services who are physically unable to access the data you store on their server.
2) you mention not knowing how this stuff can accidentally happen. It would actually be more surprising if it didnt actually happen. When your business model is collecting and selling data, you have bots that do that automatically. You have to go in and manually program the exclusions. It is inevitable that edge cases wont be caught. These things often have to get patched post production.
Don’t share classified stuff with your friends if your friends aren’t trustworthy enough to not immediately post it to Reddit
Ah yes, corporations. " Liar liar, world on fire, throw in some ice, corporation was always nice " - just a thought.
This is a lawsuit just waiting to happen.
"We investigated ourselves and found nothing wrong."
I'm surprised you don't remember the yoshi's crafted world leaks, it was pretty commonly talked about that yoshi was getting some sort of craftwork game similar to kirby's epic yarn well before it was announced.
What's more concerning to me than game leaks is people's private information getting leaked, but I guess at this point it should just be common sense to not put anything online especially on Google that you don't want other people to see. Even if it's on a supposedly "private" page.
If you can’t trust Google with your secrets, who can you trust?
My spooky ad story is how mentioning that I got back from Hawaii in conversation caused me to get ads relating to stuff on O'ahu unless I blocked ads or used a VPN
You know what else is scary? I've had multiple instances of talking about a video on RUclips (*that I watched ages ago and have since deleted my history*) with my phone next to me and then opened up RUclips and bam. There was the video on the recommendations.
They're listening.
That was the best ending to this video possible XD
Ads are based on what you search, what would be spooky is if you got toe ad, only after saying it into your phone
That last little auto insurance anecdote made me giggle
So... Google STILL isn't commiting to COPPA.
Having crafted world gameplay in the background because it was probably one of the games leaked, but also showing gameplay of an underwater themed level because it's a FISHY situation is perfect. Great editing.
To me, this just highlights how privacy is a bigger deal that most people think, and how we place way too much trust in large businesses and cloud computing. We're told again and again that our stuff is protected. But ultimately a large business like Google can't really guarantee that all employees are trustworthy and are following good practices. Whenever you put something "in the cloud" you need to know that's a risk you take.
Google: Our secrets, comrad.
Whew, if you think showing ads related to your recent searches is creepy (which TBH isn't the worst use for it), wait till your phone shows ads based on a casual conversation you had five minutes ago.
Arlo's thumbnails continue to be some of the funniest things I've ever seen.
So I know Pokemon has a few longtime leakers (we actually have rival factions, which is fitting for the series I think) and the theory for both of them is that they’re related to foreign localizations.
They're only doing stuff openly about instances when CAUGHT, god knows what else is being done or still being done regardless.
Google really just went "sowwy 👉👈 It was an accident 🥺🥺🥺"
Google is like "dun worry, we resolved the issue!"
Present: So about those secret Nintendo projects from 6 years ago...
You know, in the decade+ Google has had RUclips it has never even crossed my mind that someone working there might have access to things like this. Like has it been that easy this entire time?
Got a chuckle at the end. I miss the podcasts, Arlo's good in longform audio
wouldn't surprise me if videos take a bit longer to come out now after the directs
had us in the first half at the end there haha
Oh wow, google being unreliable and unhelpful? What a surprise 😱😱 jokes aside its kinda wild how often these leaks happen
Never thought I'd see "uwu" in an Arlo thumbnail. Life is full of surprises
I have an Amazon Alexa and sometimes it turns on when I say the phrases "i want x" or "I'm interested in x" and a few times "I love x" it hears me say these things and then makes an audible noise and proceeds to ask me if I want recommendations on products or information pertaining to the topic even though I did not initiate a conversation with the thing by saying the word Alexa.
you do realize it caches everything
Why isn't data end 2 end encrypted so employees can't unintentionally leak information?
that employee should be in jail?!??
if I so much as speak spanish all my google ads change their language to spanish. It is constantly listening
Maybe someone at Google is checking the Arlo's videos before they're officially out?
😱Arlo you can't just jumpscare us with a horror story at the end like that, I'm not gonna be able to sleep for weeks
Yeah, I'm aware smartphones will occasionally pickup voices and somehow give you info based on a conversation you had on your next search be it Google or RUclips.
It's very pick and choose though since it seems to have "trigger words". Sucks because I wanted it to recommend me funny stuff, but it only likes finding boring topics :\
Oh Arlo I’ve been so lonely without your silly videos this week
Well we'll probably see one today considering among us may have just leaked the next direct being in the 18th, so may not be waiting long till arlo makes a new vid.
And no I know this sounds like a meme but this is just genuinely the truth.
