We had a injected small block Chevy which only broke one a axle in 3 years at the track infarct half of the cars had shortened axles which are case hardened on the surface layer only.
I agree. That's not an amazing tech. It's the usual way to do it, but it will never ever be as good as a new one.

Great! Axle is now ready to be overloaded again with 3 times the specified weight, (when new),and driven on roads in unimaginable bad conditions.
@Jo Blow I was aware of that, lack of maintenance, running this diffs low on oil, diff housing covered in layers and layers of mud for extended periods of time reducing it`s cooling capabilities and clogged venting ports causing seals to leak due to the exess pressure build up, are some of the main reasons these axels snap like a Cassava root, I was born and raised in a 3rd world country, this things are quite common on those countries, but thatnks for chiming in with your technical assesment on my comment.

@Jo Blow never said you were wrong, you jumped into conclusions too quick, and completely overlook the “fact” that excessive weight will definitely contribute to prematurely snapping not just that axle, but also a new axle (unless you are suggesting that the axle doesn’t work any harder on a vehicle loaded beyond it’s cargo specs), of course torque has to do it on a full floating axle, specially under the conditions I originally stated, you got all technical, (which I didn’t feel like doing since I just wanted to make a quick comment), but you had to come and not just comment, but try to make it look like you are correcting me while at it, you can try and discredit me, but a person that knows about this stuff will definitely know I’m not wrong, again, never said you were wrong, but that doesn’t make me wrong either, you are just too narcissistic to admit it.
By the way, I’ve been an ASE certified Master tech with Advance level status continuously, for over 25 years, plus a Nissan and Infinity platinum master for over 15 years and GTR certified right in Franklin, Tennessee, If you call that 3rd world education, then I assume you must be too good of a genius, right?

magnaflux crack detection with two spray cans you can tell if it is good axle and no machine to use or buy.
On heavy trucks it is a must in half world.

They may need extra heat treating after welding, but no reason why it shouldnt.
These guy's obviously have done dozens, so they would get a lot of stick on failed jobs.

Не надолго. Такие вещи в токарном станке трением сваривают.
Качество никакое, с крана не вооруженным глазом видно отклонение от оси приваренного вала, к тому же это вал на котором будет нагрузка крутящего момента, а они скрепляют наплавленной соплей, возможно они думают, что наплавленная сопля это одно и тоже что и цельный металл, не хватает только синей изоленты, надо было еще и синей изоленты намотать, для пущей прочности. Это видимо ремонт в сельских условиях и за гроши, у людей нет возможности покупать запчасти, вот они и выкручиваются как могут, но это никак не соответствует названию канала "Удивительные механики", такие работы пойдут под названием "сельские чудотворцы".

Качества ни какого. Сломается на первом же подъёме.
Во первых - место сварки ни как не закалил - другой состав стали
Во вторых - он тщательно зачищал пустоты в сварке инструментом УШМ, От быстрого вращения диска УШМ, мета сильно нагревается и микротрещины просто завальцовываются, становятся не видны. Но даже и после этого видны пустоты.

Guess it got broke in first place due to this weak makeshift repair on previous occasion. How com axle made by welding have strength to last long and bear weight. It will break again soon.
Axle shaft does not bear weight in a floating axle just drives the wheel hub

@@jimmycricket5366 yes it is. called a floater by almost all that work on them and own them. Very few full floaters out there anymore and personally I have never seen a full floater in a heavy truck

@Алексей Харитонов , я обратил внимание. Скол не из-за перегруза, а усталостный износ. Как будто цапфа или балка моста гнутая и полуось постоянно гнёт.
В конце семидесятых сосед купил новую Ниву, и наспор въехал почти на отвесную гору на Кавказе. Когда зашел спор, что въехал или нет, при второй попытке у него на камне срезало или оборвало, не знаю как выразить , передний привод. И деталь эта, на тот момент оказалась такой дефицитной, и РТС механики взялись восстановить ему привод. Если бы не был тому свидетелем сам бы не поверил, вот именно таким методом ему заварили, отцентровали на глазок собрали испытали обмыли😁. И ездила эта Нива на этом приводе, и по горам, и по весям, грязь бездорожье все повидала но привод не подвел. Видимо на этих приводах или полуосях, присутствует заводской брак при изготовлении детали, который по качеству хуже чем эта сварная самопалка🤣
Видимо новая полуось стоит дороже самого автомобиля,если её сваривают..

These homemade things are molded at random. Wherever they go, it will break down all the time. An endless process, broken - fixed, broken again - fixed again. And so on endlessly.

Supongo que es para salir del problema. Primero la aleación del eje no coincida con la varilla de soldar. La deposición del material deje burbujas de aire dentro. Falta de tratamiento térmico a toda la pieza, este punto bueno no se ve si lo hacen después en un horno eléctrico industrial.
Muy buena la explicación pero, pero que tipo de soldadura se le aplica, en Colombia mi país le aplicamos la soldadura 70 18 y no nos ha dado buenos resultados. Espero que sin egoísmo nos digan que tipo de soldadura se le puede aplicar para poder garantizarles el trabajo a los clientes. Muchas gracias.

Special steel is used for trucks axles. They are forged, not welded. They are induction heated and hardened and toughened. This is nothing but crap, I knew this was fake BS but I had to watch to make sure. Google the manufacturing of truck axles and you’ll see what a joke this is. Just to start with the weld material cannot be drawn to the same strength as the rest of the broken axle pieces

@@user-en2gg9nv1y Конечно не от хорошей 😇 Я лет 5 назад на квадрик полуось таким способом делал, правда снаружи ещё трубку наварил. Ходит до сих пор. Конечно нагрузки не сравнимы, но работает 🙂
As commented already why didn't you use heat to preheat then slowly cool the steel backing off the haet slowly then cool it in oil? Also you don't use coolant with the milling?

@@annoying_lovable_jm you build it up from each end it's only a centimetre gap, nothing hard about that.
One of the area where he grinds is where the axle bearing seats onto the axle. It's a precision fit into the bearing. Grinding it will destroy that fit and the bearing will be a sloppy fit. It will also probably leak diff oil at that place. Grinding the back of the wheel studs is also totally useless. The break shape and location is also suss.

Thank you for sharing. I'm not an expert, but I think you should slow down on the welds. Take some time to let the shaft cool between welds. Also, maybe wrap an aluminum can around the shaft to protect it from weld spatter. I do not understand why the disc sander was used on the shaft. Once you matched the axle diameter with the lathe by turning it back down, I thought that was what you would need to make sure the axle seal would seal against it properly.
No. Absolutely not. That's not how this works. That's not how any of this works. Why not just tape it over at this point? Just because it 'looks' connected does not mean it is same as before. It is Infact even more dangerous to use now as it will be super easy to break again and you could have a nasty accident at your hands. This can really cost lives.
Nobody says you can not weld it. But everybody knows will break again near weld side of the right or left. Need new one. This is temporary solution

The axle is probably broken from a previous welding job, and so on. At some point in time, the truck's owner will say enough is enough and buy a new axle.

1. The NEW axle broke, what did they have to lose.
2. Down time on heavy machinery is expensive.
3. It PROBABLY would have taken too long to wait for a new replacement
4. I doubt very much you have any experience with this kind of repair to make the comment in the first place.

I will NEVER jeopardize my life or the life of others for a make-shift axle repair. It's clear that the term "Safety First" doesn't register with make-shift FIXERS like you who value machinery down time over human life!

the story does not say what rod they use. No pre heat no checking of interpass no post heat and hardening. When you think these guys have nuclear reactors!
Why preheat? It's only a 2 inch rod, not a large casting.
@@dnomyarnostaw Forging should always be preheated regardless of thickness. After welding it needs to be hardened and tempered.
@@bernardmauge8613 Post heat treatment definitely, but if the part is small volume, the weld will supply all the preheat you need

New ones aren't available in their country, that's why they repair everything.

This is a fully floating axle by the looks, so the worst that can happen is it goes bang and drive is lost. Wheels won’t fall off and axle won’t come out

I can't get over that No coolant was used in this process. I can't help but think this repair is only temporary. I've seen similar things like this but where they joined very long and wide pipes and they used copious amounts of coolant.

good axles do not snap---you cannot turn good axles without annealing---that axle turns not much better than mild steel....

В принципе такой ремонт может прожить долго. Тут два вопроса...какие электроды использовали и был режим отпуска ....если нет,то сломается при первом ударе
