Did not expect the difference to be so huge! Maple all day baby
Great comparison...
Ebony fretboard creates a darker tone...
That's great for video games, commercial projects...
Thanks
I have 3 Specials in rosewood, maple and ebony but in 4H. The difference live is quit apparent to the point I use the 3 band EQ differently on each bass. The rosewood is more woody and warm sounding, the maple brighter and ebony more percussive and pianolike. I think the ebony and maple are my 2 favorite but the rosewood sounds awesome also.
To my years the maple one seems to be more balance between strings. The Ebony one is clearer and have more precise high notes.
I think I prefer the maple neck on this comparison. But both basses are awesome !
Thank you for this well made comparison. ;-)

Great comparison first of all.
Big difference in sounds. I mean really, I didn't expect such a difference.
Thank You 👍. I hope you'll like the other videos on my channel and consider subscribing (If you haven't already)
I actually like the maple better even though before hearing this I thought I go the other way with the ebony..😎
I love your comparisons! I like the ebony one with its piano-like brightness better solo, but to me the maple one sounds better in the mix. I guess it's because of its warmer mids and fuller bass response. And I love the look of the maple version!
Thanks 👍. Stay tuned on my channel.
I agree wuth your evaluation.
I wonder about the roasted Maple beck ... gorgeous mid range bump.
amazing playing, amazing sound💯💥
Thanks
Great job, man!!! Bass line sounds like RHCP Walkabout variation!)🤟
Thanks, that's how it should sound 🙂
Odličan video. Svaka čast!
Hvala 🙂
A great comparison video!!! Ebony seems to have a more "upfront" sone compared with the maple but both sound fantastic!
Thanks!
Great demo, thank you.
Thank's for watching!
AWSOME video, FedEx is delivering my Smoked Charcoal Stingray 5 HH ebony tomorrow!!! Both are AWSOME I chose the ebony
Thank You.Check my other videos...
Finally, somebody demonstrating how great aspects of "One Hot Minute" are. On a walkabout, haha., crazy. Thank you, great tone, ebony is the winner for me.
Thank You. Love te One Hot Minute btw.
wow. they sound so different. I think I prefer the maple
I prefer maple for looks…but the ebony sounded more like old school Stingrays IMO..more bite and highs
I am getting an ebony fretboard 5H special in a week or so. A lot of people say that the Stingray 5 open B are one of the best for 34 scale. I also have a modded Squier Vintage Modern V that I modded with EMG JAX5 and a BTS pre. Well I guess I can consider that bass to have the same open B sound as the StingRay. in Maple at least from what I hear in this video and I am listening with studio monitors. I do prefer the Open B of the Ebony. I do have a 6 string tune with a 36 scale and that B on that is anther level.
Enough of me. I really like the demo. You are a really good player. Thanks for the demo and it reinforces that I made the right choice of getting the ebony FB.
Thank You so much. You will be satisfied with ebony as You would be with the maple :). Listen to my video in Bass cover playlist where I play ebony, black one - Peter Gabriel song. You can hear the low B.
@@ObraBass Yep all your covers are awesome. I think you sound good with any bass. I forgot to add that the inexpensive Squier bass i modded I upgraded the bridge and my luthier redid the saddle and the previous owner PLEKEed the frets. So it has the best setup one can do for that type of bass.
Cool video I have both as well, in my experience my ebony is brighter I have the same ebony as you and absolutely love that bass! I also have the same all black but maple, the maple is a pound lighter than my ebony such amazing basses! If ya get bored head over to my small channel and check some bass improv videos out! Got some pretty nice basses on there 🤘😎
Thanks, I will :)
@@ObraBass cool mane! 🤘
odličan video!
Hvala 👍
Great Comparison Video! Thank You!
Which Fretboard do You like most?
Thanks, in this case I might give a slight edge to the warmth of the maple.
Thanks, hvala.
@@denisglavac1286 Sorry for a late response :) Nema na cemu
@@ObraBass Ma kaj Ti je, odgovor je bio taman. Meni isto javor bolje zvuči. Baš sam danas složio koncu Maruszczyk Sputnik. Jasen tijelo, ptičji javor vrat i ploča. Vrat kroz tijelo. Ako nađem tvoj mail budem poslao sliku Maruszczyk a. (Stvarno je lijep)
Translation for non south Slavic speaking community 😂😀
I also adore Maple. I just configured Maruszczyk Sputnik 5 string with birdseye maple fretboard, same wood for neck through body, hard Ash Body and Spalted Maple Top. Maruszczyk does not offer Seymour Duncan Active Soapbar that is really wide single coil (or real soapbar). Humbucker in the same housing gives boost for Basse and Mids approx 6dB and it cuts Highs Completely. This thing does not. 😀
@@denisglavac1286 Zvuci odlicno, rado bih ga probao. Imas moj mail u ''About'' na YT. Veliki pozdrav.

I prefer maple, it's more "Stingray"...but this difference in sound it' so impressive!
Ebony got more highs
ebony is brighter ...
I am a mixing engineer and literally fretboards don't make any difference in electric guitar/bass sounds. If any, it's from something else.
People here who say they notice the difference are just fooled by placebo.
I agree with you but in this case there is a big difference between the sound of these basses so I think that there is something else...since the preamp and the pickup are the same, my conclusion is that he didn't use the same strings, for example the same model of strings but one older than other...in any case, I prefer the maple one
Well, maybe up loud through FOH, the difference in the top-end is going to be pretty hard to hear, if not impossible. But through a good quality bass-rig or audio interface, totally audible, IMO and IME over 35 years of bass playing.
Not true. If anything body wood makes very little difference, and the entirety of the difference comes from the fretboard wood. Notice both basses are EXACTLY the same in the video, with different fretboard woods😉 Also a mixing engineer, producer, and pro bassist with 25 years experience.
@@Floridaprophet but you are not considering that may be the strings have different ages…
It makes a difference, if for nothing, because of different density. The neck moves more or less, it has more or less rigidity, that affects the timbre. This is why Warwicks have a very distinct sound - very hard, heavy, rigid woods are used.
I can pretend I hear a difference, but I really don’t.
Sorry to hear that, but there IS a tonal difference between the two basses. To my ears, the maple fingerboard has a little more high mids, but I'm not sure what exact frequency. I own a similar Special 5H and find that it does cut through well, as it has a bit more going on in the mids, compared to the older Stingray models.
