I’m looking at the Sage Payload. But that is a beautiful rod indeed . Over lining a option for sure Mr Joe. Even doing the review, you had the fly in the water. A true fisherman ❤
Being back east, where the streams aren't nearly as wide and wade fishing is the order of the day, this rod looks to be a miss. The weight and likely swing weight would be too high to be enjoyable. However, out west, the rod looks like an excellent match for casting from a drift boat.
I'm not sure I agree in regards to the rod, the variance in line profiles, heads, and weights is so diverse that there is hardly a standard. Most WF floating trout lines are at least a half size heavy in comparison to true AFTA weight indexes, some even an entire line weight. It's not a bad thing as far as the rod itself is concerned, line and rod weights are fairly arbitrary. I have rods that are happy to cast a 3, 4, or 5 weight line it just changes the action. This particular rod seemed to like a heavier line to show of it's soul.
? What rod builder are you referring to? Sage and Loomis are built next door. We've sold Burkheimer well over the years, they are also nearby. As far as a "one man shop" goes we aren't a very good outlet for that. Warranties, QC issues, and supply chain are better handled when consumers work directly with custom rod builders.
Appreciate the good, honest reviews as well as all the tips you share with us.
Really good review and talking about lines. Well done
Beulah…Beulah…Anyone? Anyone? Beulah…
Please come back with the 6wt as it is a faster rod!
great review, thank you!
How about the Reviewing the G2 Spey as well😊
I got one from them last week. 12' 8" 7 weight with the Rio Skagit Max Pro 500 grain and it casts really well. I am in love with the cork on it.
@@headocheese exact rod I’m interested in getting .surprisingly few reviews on it looks like a great rod at a good price.

BEULAH !!! Sound I make after one too many shots .
Your shore technique makes mine look extremely weak! Great review though! Thank you.
Oh you are welcome, thanks for watching and appreciate folks that take time to chime in. Have a good one and good luck out there.
Are these korean rods or are they made in the u s a?
South Korea. North makes Orvis. Joking ahaha.
Made in the USA?
Nope. South Korea (biggest exporter of fly rods I believe).

You either want a 4 wt or a 5wt. Anything else makes no sense. Not exactly a great feature if you have to go up a line wt to get it casting distance.
