    I was skeptical about a dedicated streamer rod until you and Kelly explained the Streamer X. Everything you guys said makes perfect sense and a new reason to buy another fly rod!

    What reel are you using on that rod? Looks pretty light and compact!
    Edit: I just realized it was an Able reel… anything you recommend that’s a bit cheaper…? Lol

    Could we see brian go over the differences between the streamer x, sage payload, and tfo axiom 2 x? All 3 are marketed as rods to throw bigger streamers, and I'd like to hear the comparison from an experienced streamer angler.

    The fighting butt is such a big help to me, but I never use streamers solely for trout single hand. I’m considering this rod for bass, pike, and so on. I like the butt. Not sure how I’ll feel without it.

    thinking about this setup for the salt. I usually throw an older orvis 8wt and sometimes it's just too big. This would be for the east coast from the Keys up to New Jersey. Does anyone have an recommendations for a setup? I'm thinking 6wt for the schoolie bass and some snook/reds...

    For me a streamer rod is not a niche rod. In fact it´s pretty standard to me. I´m using Sage Payload, Winston Alpha Plus and T&T Exocett SS rods. Day and night different compared to standard rods. Throwing sinking lines and big streamers is so much easier.

    • @Madriveroutfitters

    I have been eyeballing this rod for a while. I read somewhere that Kelly uses a 6wt for trout streamer fishing. I bought a lower end 6wt for the mad and I'm not real happy with it, I can't fish well with anything much bigger than a wooly bugger or a very small clouser..... I caught my first mad river brown on that 6wt with a white bead head bugger on a sink tip.....but I usually use my 8wt on the mad for throwing galloups streamers when I have the flows that invite the approach. For the galloup streamers we know and love, the ones you sell in the shop, is a 7wt necessary, or will the 6wt version of this rod get the job done?

    • @Madriveroutfitters
      @Madriveroutfitters  3 года назад

      Best to call the shop with questions like that but we CAN tell you that Brian and Kelly both seem to favor the 7wt. Thanks for watching.

    I just finished reading Modern Streamers for Trophy Trout I. It was a fantastic read for someone like me who has been throwing nothing but drys and droppers for the last 15 years. Streamer fishing is going to be a big part of my fly fishing future as I travel across Wyoming in search of trophy trout. The streamer x rod is definitely on my radar and hope to get one soon. I love everything that Galloup and MRO do and the countless hours of information they provide! Thanks!

    The 8wt 9' rod comes in at 4.5 oz and your saying its a light rod. I'm using a 8wt 9'6" Sage XP @ 4-1/16 oz with a fighting butt. What weight would you classify as a heavy 8wt 9' rod? Thanks. Oh and I totally agree about not needing the fighting butt for trout but I can't bring myself to cut it off.

    • @Madriveroutfitters
      @Madriveroutfitters  3 года назад

      They didn't say it was a light rod per se...a bit out of context there. They said it was lighter than the Bank Robbers that were made by St. Croix. Thanks and feel free to call the shop if you have any further questions.

      @dougcook1176 3 года назад

      @@Madriveroutfitters Fair enough Galloup says its considerably lighter that his other rods. Some rods get a little on the heavy side and that can sometiimes be related to price. I see a Sage X is 3-3/8 oz but twice the price. Thanks for the help.
