It's actually a pretty heavy song, emotionally speaking. It's about watching someone you really love self-destruct and trying to find the strength to move on. You know you can't save that person, and that leaving them or letting them go is the best thing you can do for your own peace and happiness, but love keeps you holding on, even when it hurts.
I hadn't put that much thought into the meaning of the song, even though I've been singing and playing ( a simplified version of playing it) the song sense 95. You made this song mean so much more to me. Thank you for your comment.👍
i've heard this song so many times, that it's acting like a time machine, back to the last decade of the last millennium. Blockbuster nights, sultry summer nights, simple jobs, simple times, so much energy. I miss it so much.
It's cool to like Darius and the boys. Before they broke they were the hottest party bands, playing all the big beach clubs in the Carolinas. Darius can literally sing anything. Hes one of the biggest artists in pop country right now. But he likes to surprise his audiences with covers of classic country and classic rock tunes when playing live.
Been a huge fan of Darius Rucker since His first album with the Blowfish in 86’. Have followed him into his solo career. Darius Rucker is one of the most underrated artists out there. Darius’s voice is pantie melting.😜 Plus, his smile (like yours Van) brightens the room.
Darius Carlos Rucker is an American singer and songwriter. He first gained fame as the lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist of rock band Hootie & the Blowfish, which he founded in 1986 at the University of South Carolina along with Mark Bryan, Jim "Soni" Sonefeld, and Dean Felber.
This takes me back to a time, almost 30 years ago, when my life was changing in a big way. Funny, isn't it, how a song can take you right back to a point in time that you hadn't thought about for years. Bittersweet memories. Darius Rucker is phenomenal, with or without the Blowfish, and I appreciate you playing this on this Wednesday morning. Thanks for the memories, great song!
YOU have TO CHECK OUT Darius Rucker, Hootie lead singer, singing "If I Told You", and "Wagonwheel" which is a country song, if you can imagine that! Awesome singer!
I dont hear much difference.. other than spots with harmony from other band members the hootie songs are mostly solo performances to my ears. Love his solo of course.
I think one reason this is such a beautiful song is the restraint he uses, it could be a bigger rock ballad, but it's beautiful this way. Also, i could never quite reconcile if he is codependent or he's protective. ..hmmm.
I love how this song paints a very realistic picture of how hard addiction is to deal with. It ruins everything. Hootie has a beautiful voice that sells this song perfectly. He has a ton of hits!
@@Dee-JayW - It’s hard enough with a spouse or significant other. But when it’s you’re child, that’s a different ballgame. You must possess incredible strength and grace.
Love Hootie!! Hold My Hand is another good one by them. Also, if you have time check out Darius Rucker's song It Won't Be Like This For Long or Don't Think I Don't Think About It. Both are so good. Great reaction!! 🙂
I love Hootie don't care who knows it 😉It's great music. In America unfortunately we love em till they get to a certain point of popularity then we feel the need to tear em down. It's a banger anyone who says it's not is tone deaf or just a plain ole hater. CREEKSQUAD❤️💕
Hootie and the Blowfish is like the Righteous Brothers backwards! Lol! Because the lead singer doesn't look the way you would think when hearing theor voice.
Nothing is more cool than the voice of Darius Rucker. He is one of the all time greats! BTW Darius said on TV ( In the 90s) that he is actually not Hootie. The band liked the name so they just went with it. Only after they became famous and millions of people began calling him Hootie did Darius wonder how he didn’t think and know that would happen. In the movie where Cuba Gooding shouts to Tom Cruise, “ Show me the money!!!” There is a scene where a little boy comes up to the not yet famous football player played by Cuba Gooding and asks for an autograph. Cuba’s character is happy because someone recognized him but the little kid says you’re Hootie!are you Hootie? Cuba barks, I am not Hootie. Get out of here. ( or words to that effect.) Did you see that movie? How could you not know who HTBF were?
Lol I tease my daughter about Hootie. She doesn't like them so I send her a picture of an owl (Hootie) and a blow fish ( yes there is such a thing as a blow fish) also known as a puffer fish when ever I hear one of their songs.
One of their best. 💜 I used to host karaoke shows. 🎤 🎶 If someone sang one of their songs, when they'd give back the mic I'd say "Hey, that was Bob singin' some Bootie and the Hoefish". Took a second to sink in, and then always got a chuckle. 😂
Still a favorite song, still a favorite artist. Darius has one of those instantly recognizable voices, & may I suggest a song from a few years back: Wagon Wheel.
@@traci109 Yea Bob Dylan wrote good songs. But is one of the worst "popular" singers I've ever heard. Darius Rucker on the other hand... top notch in both departments.
Naw u ain’t losing no cool points, this song is a banger but u have to check out Darius Ruckers Wagon Wheel, Don’t think I don’t think about it and Alright He went country and it’s dope dope dope
You don't understand this song truly until you've been through this I had to let the love of my life go after almost 6 years I finally gave up on helping her beat her addiction.
Darius is my 2nd fave male vocalist of ALL time (Maynard from A Perfect Circle/ TOOL is my fave of all time)! I played "I' Going Home" by Hootie and the Blowfish at my Mom's Funeral. Liking Darius music GIVES Cool Points!

It's funny how when a band is popular they are disliked for being popular. It may be from over-exposure. However, 20 years later you hear them and you realize, that it was a pretty good song.
I'm so happy to see a fellow brother hear hootie for the first time. I grew up on hootie and the Blowfish. My stepfather and I on a road trip. Thank God he stepped up as a blk man and raised a good wht guy. Thank you papa Virgil (dad) grandfather to my kids. Good music hits us all brother.

I knew you’d like this 1 van, it’s just WAY more authentic, especially compared to bigger radio singles “only wanna b wit u” & “hold my hand”…I like those but both are kinda white noise after awhile but this track is deep & if it didn’t happen to Darius he’s sellin the hell out of it anyway! Since I called u likin this 1, u should check Incubus - Aqueous Transmission, bet u will like it 2…
Darius gets so much shit, because of the music he did before becoming a fantastic country artist. I do what to remind people that Hootie & The Blowfish was promoted every night for about a year and a half by David Letterman on The Late Show for CBS. Darius has a voice that when you hear it you instantly know who that person is. My favorite song from Darius as a country singer is "Would You Love Me Anyway" that songs hits so fucking hard for people who understands what he talks about

Sorry, Darius is a fantastic singer, but he nearly RUINED Wagonwheel with all the 'autotune' on it. The original version by OCMS is WAY better.
