That said, he played at a Big School, had a lot of starts, won the Nati (though I would credit the defense and running game for UM’s success), and he is one of the bigger QBs in this draft class full of prospects that are less than prototypical sized QBs. I find it odd that his coach at Michigan, Jim Harbaugh, would brag on JJ as his ride or die QB, but then leaves the school for the Chargers HC job-A team that has a clearly superior QB that McCarthy will not unseat, even if his former college coach selects him, which I doubt he will despite the aforementioned praise. Some franchise will get tempted and draft him too high…I think that team will be sorry.
Exactly and when you look at his highlights hes just not throwing to wide open wrs and hes looking to throw when he runs and not just fully commited to running like Jayden Daniels. He reminds me of Brock Purdy.

He's going very high in this draft and may end up being the best of the lot. A few things you didn't note that NFL guys put a premium on. His qbr, completion percent & yards per completion under pressure rank 1st. He was coached to throw balls where only his receivers can catch it - look where most of his misses are. Also, his numbers didn't really change when playing better competition, while the others did. These are the things Harbaugh covets in his QB and why he thinks Mccarthy is actually the best of the bunch, when the pressure is greatest, the guy answers every time.
I tend to avoid production when making these detailed scouting reports, and I try to just give background information and then focus on the film, since film helps me determine what my positives and negatives are for that prospect. For example, let's just say McCarthy had the highest YPC under pressure. What if a lot of that was manipulated by YAC, and #2 on the list had less YAC? The statistics help me get a head start, but the film confirms different ideas.
McCarthy goes through his progressions faster than any of the other first round QBs. It wouldn't surprise me if McCarthy goes in the top 15 which is a little high but QBs are often over drafted and he does have a lot of upside.

I think he would probably be a guaranteed first-round selection.
