- Welcome to this trip report on board the Malaysia Airlines A330-300 in the special “Harimau Malaya” (Malaysian Tiger) livery from Doha to Kuala Lumpur!
Malaysia Airlines has been requested quite a few times and I haven’t flown them since 2014 so it was about time.
They used to be amongst the world’s greatest but bad business decisions in the fleet, scheduling (and corruption) department spiraled the airline in debt. So I am glad to have tried out the new Malaysia Airlines!
They fly now double daily between Kuala Lumpur and Doha to assist Qatar Airways in feeding their flights to Europe, Africa and the USA. So let’s see what this is all about!
I managed to score 9A, the best seat on the entire aircraft in a small private 2 row economy cabin with some incredible legroom. Make sure you book the same 😉
A special thanks to all the crew members on this flight as it was obvious they were passionate about their jobs, specially the most senior crew members with over 25 (!) years of experience each.

Nice video, very relatable. I am on Platinum with Malaysia Airlines and fly them almost very week, since I am living in KL. MAS is trying its very best to deliver a better customer experience again and they are progressing. Just the food is still not on par, which I know has to do with the complications with their longstanding catering supplier. Once they get that back on track and the new planes are introduced, I am happy to enjoy my weekly comfort with the fantastic crew. They really make the difference, truly Malaysian hospitality (for their Platinum members😅).
So the front cabin was empty, I was the only one there. I’m Emerald myself so I managed to score a seat there by myself. But what’s cool is that the MH crew went around the aircraft and invited the other MH Platinum and other Emerald’s to join in the cabin, so we were eventually 6 or so. I love it when they show that much care to those that are loyal, what a top gesture!
I’m aware of the catering complications out of KL and once it’s all fully settled I’ll fly them again for sure. Who knows we even cross paths? 😊

@@TheLayoverAviation the catering out of doha is not affected as it is supplied by doha kitchen. And it has always been dreadful. Same shit if you fly the share code operated by qatar.
I flew from KL to Auckland in 2018, they are really a great airline and very hospitable crew too.

4:57 Spooky! Since I fly Malaysia Airlines a lot since I live in Malaysia, I actually flew the flight number MH370 in November 2013. Then back in March 2007, I flew the exact plane that vanished. I’ve got a photo of the plane. The date was 8th March 2007…that was the same day it vanished on but just 7 years before. Too many coincidences 🫣
4:31 the windows in DXB suck to film too, even some ramp-buses have their windows covered 🙂
But they have tiny areas that are uncovered, DOH doesn’t have at all.. Neither does Tel Aviv 😢
26:02 they will be flying their latest 7th A350 (with a different cabin than the existing 6 A350s) to Doha from April 2024 onwards!

I take it you really liked the privacy of that small economy cabin as well as the PW4000’s screaming out of Doha.
The A330 is such a formidable aircraft in today’s age where we have the A350 and 787 and 777-300ER. It’s a prominent workhorse still in my opinion!

I'm still waiting for my MH experience, but my mom flown on them back in 1990s with A300 and MD11 in Asia ,she said that MH wanted to send the broken A300 and the plane was unable to fly.. She said that it was not the great experience with them, but the MD11 was amazing 🙌

Funny story that of your moms! My dad flew on the B747-400 from AMS in the 90’s and told me how they served “unlimited satay” (it’s very popular in the Netherlands). Since then I wanted to fly them.
I saw them going with satay up and down but to business class 😔

Great Video again it is good to see Malaysian Airlines coming back after a few lean years when I travel from the UK to KL there is only one airline I love the friendly crew in there great uniforms and great Asian food and hospitality that's what I like.

My favorite engine; always loved that humming on the sub-UA 777-200’s on my flights across the pacific. I have at least 5 takeoff videos with no visuals ; just the PW engine sounds
Hi Alex, great trip report. I was flying Malaysian several years ago, they were Ok, but not on par with SIA or Qatar/Emirates
Not at all on that level.. But not too long ago they used to be rated better. So I look forward to those days, time will tell.. But so far yes, far less but cheaper!

Fantastic video! MH is really great. The PW4000 is a rare engine choice for A330s i guess. Which other airlines fly PW powered A330s? I also recently visited Kuala Lumpur but tried the other 2 airlines there (AirAsia, Batik Air Malaysia). There is a good selection of plane models in terminal 1. Did you see them? With which airline did you return from there? What are we getting for the next video?

I loved the detail of the aircrafts ahown during the take off roll, the spacious separate Economy cabin and very spacious washroom ! Was the Amenity Kit a part of the standard service or was it a special gift 😊
That IFE is the old one. They have upgraded to new ones, in some of the cabins

Great to review MAS in recent times. I support the New Menu ala Western or Middle Eastern. U can get Local Asain food upon arriving in K L. The new Menu puts us on par wt other airlines and suits the tastes of international travellers. 😊

Nice trip 😊 i am back from cape verde, you must visit cv its lovely. We hade a bumpy flight home, the girl next to me was in panik. But i was ok.
MH crew at Doha Airport is a rare crew siting at Hamad since QR uses the crew terminal. Engine would have been running until ground power was hooked up at KUL Airport. Your crew treats go a long way
I didn’t know they use the crew terminal. I know the same happens in Dubai where EK crew get transported underground, that’s why you’ll never see them!

The catering is dependant on the ground services. Fly from where the airline originates from, and the catering will be different and more suited to the local cuisine. Happy travels.
Yes I am aware of that, but QR serves really good Asian food too.. It’s up to the airline representatives to decide what they serve! Not ground services. Thanks for watching!

Hey Alex, amazing vlog. It’s been a while since I watched your videos since I’ve been quite busy. Something I find quite strange is that Malaysian Airlines flies to Doha and not dubai and I could say the same for American . Also considering that emirates send 3 planes a day to KL

19:33, Me too, I try to cut the chicken meat, but the plastic spoon and fork break easily, so I highly recommend you bring your own spoon and fork that is cutlery.
Many security check points won’t let you bring forks as it’s “dangerous”.. Silly, I know.. But yes, I always have a spoon and some straws with me! (for my son)

An online friend of mine said Malaysia Airlines is terrible. He said the food was terrible but this video shows Malaysia Airlines isn't as bad as it seems. I hope Etihad A320 economy is next 😅
Airliners can improve. It might have not been a good service once before, but there is constructive criticism and improvements. Strive to enhance the product and service, then the quality and reputation can improve.

It wasn’t bad at all… But they had some catering issues from KL for the past months, where they fired the catering company without having a new one contracted. I think it’s solved now..
Malaysia Airlines has a very clean cabin,although the seats are quite old.

26:53, The shuttle train is under renovation and I believe or think that it will be completed at the end of 2023 or next year.

Oh really? Okay. Sorry, I didn't ask the airport staff about why the shuttle train is close under renovation when I was in Kuala Lumpur in mid July.
QR is no longer flying to KUL and it is code sharing with MH?
6:21-Pity there's no more the Batik inspired seat covers for the flight seats. I think it would have been a great reflection for Malaysia Airlines.

How much did you pay to fly Malaysia airlines at time of your booking? I am curious and I want to know. Enjoy your vacation in Kuala Lumpur and try Nasi Lemak, Malaysian chicken rice, Naan (In Malay, it's roti canai) with sugar, Bak Kut Teh and Lor Mai Kai (sticky rice). The Malaysian food is good.
I think I paid around $450 US from Dubai one way. But the fares keep changing. Fares to KL from Dubai are low as there is a lot of demand and competition, you can find with some airlines as low as $200.
The food is the best!! Both in Singapore and Malaysia I go nuts! ❤️

I really hope Qatar Airways improves their things. After COVID and especially after World Cup, they fell apart. I believe they should retrofit or upgrade their cabins on the older 777s and 787-8s and retire the very old ones like A330 soon enough. and now that the A380 hating CEO is gone, I do hope the new CEO does smth positive for the A380 they have so that it can fly longer into 2030s at least.

Malaysian airlines should renew their seats, like i mean they put new seats. The seats i see looks so old, except the aircraft in their fleet that is new or the aircraft that they already did renew the seats, and not just this airlines, many other airlines that have the same exact TV seats but different colors.

They are better than their former partner Singapore these days. Singapore economy is terrible.
Maybe the catering on that route was dictated by QR. Hard to understand why no nasi lemak otherwise.
