Many years ago, My late beloved wife and myself had finally saved enough to undertake a Bus tour of the US.We flew from LHR to SFO on a pretty worn-out (judging your modern aircraft) PAN AM 747. We were like a pair of excited children as the plane took off from 27L and although we, over a period subsequently undertook two more trips to the US, My enduring memory is that first long haul flight. PS I hugely enjoyed your video!
I don't think there's any Aviation channel on youtube where I would watch 35 minutes video on an economy class but when it's Alex you can't do anything but watch
Thanks everyone for watching! Don’t forget to subscribe and like! I promise you I read all of your messages here. But as they are piling up I might not be able to answer all. Thanks for your understanding! 🙏🏼 ❤️ ✈️
Hey there! I just wanted to say I just discovered your channel, and you are already one of my favorite flight review channels on RUclips. Your videos are entertaining and useful, and have lots of variety. I also appreciate how positive you are, and you don’t dramatically complain about small details, which is something I can’t say for the more mainstream channels. I love your videos, and keep up the great work!
I’m glad you found it and that you enjoy it. Welcome! Complaining brings views. I don’t really care much for it, I just like to show whats nice and only complain if something is repetitive. Keep enjoying and see you around!
Always so generous of you, thanks a lot!!! I do wish you a great flight to Ho Chi Ming. Prepare yourself to be wowed, it’s a great plane and the food is some of the worlds best. I always enjoyed my visits there. Have fun on QR, choose your seats wisely and make the most out of it 😃
I used QR A35K twice on a recent trip and will go out of my way to never book A330, 787, or 77W again! Simply a fantastic aircraft, with better cabin air. I usually get headaches long haul but there were none on A350! As to your comment, I prefer A350 to A380. Also, applause for your attention to detail and gorgeous filming angles. A couple points: 1. it's possible on your DXB arrival ATC wanted the aircraft to vacate as quickly as possible. In that case it would make sense to use reverse and brake generously. 2. There is no such thing as short 'finals', though that's a common mistake. In pilot lingo it's final approach, and ideally there is only one, so it would be 'short final'.
You seem to have an obsession for facts and numbers, just like me 🙈😅. Love all the information and facts during the video, every now and then I learn something new, even as someone who is into aviation since like 30 years and has worked in aviation for many years. Love the footage as well, great camera angles!
I love to share facts and numbers indeed, aviation is filled with it! Thank you for all the kind words, I am glad you enjoyed it. If you know any trivia, make sure to share!! Am sure others will love it too!
I just discovered your channel and loved watching this video! Awesome, informative and fun! Also, Aloha from Waikiki Beach, O'ahu Hawaii where I live. I also saw that you love A380 but they are no longer being used, correct? Looking forward to seeing more of your awesome videos :)
Another enjoyable and interesting Trip Report.. thanks for letting us join you as you show us what to expect on this particular service .. Thanks again Alex..🙏
Great video on QR. I personally flew their A350-900 ULR roundtrip from Mumbai to Boston via Doha in 2021 and I was amazed by the product they offer on board. I felt they were much better than Emirates tbh, my both flights though was delayed by 1 hr due to heavy rains in Mumbai & traffic congestion in Doha, the cabin was truely amazing and got great comfort level at 35000 ft, despite a full flight. Despite flying during peak covid, i was still offered 3 meal options to choose from and they were really delicious. Also A350 is such a quiet aircraft and provides the best comfort level, QR has put it to next great level. I also flew same route with Emirates in 2019 and it has its own charm with a quiet cabin and having the entire lower deck of economy class, something that I found great compared to other airlines as one can take a good walk on the lower deck on a flight longer than 8+ hrs, however ground experience with Emirates has been disappointing. But their product offering along with crew and food are also great. I believe QR and EK both have their benefits to fly with along with slight inconsistencies, but apart from that, their flights are pretty good. But would prefer QR only on their A350s or B777s whereas with Emirates ,would prefer only their A380s.
i have just completed a long haul QR flight from DOH to SYD 2 days ago! as a singaporean, i must say that i felt that QR service was better than the past 4 times i took SQ this year. Great to see a long haul QR video that i relate to :)
So awesome! I goggled seat 31A on Qatar Airlines 350-1000 to see what I paid the extra $129 for. Then he sat and video exactly what I was looking for. Definitely gonna get my money's worth :) Thanks!
I was doing the exact same when I was younger, always watching other blogs and vlogs. And then I did my best to make a career out of it. Nothing is impossible!
The A350-1000 is marvel. Flew one from Doha to Dulles and I was really impressed. It's significantly quieter than it's competition and the leg room is grdat too.
Nice video as always ! I was a former A350-900/1000 cabin crew, I'm almost certain that the "landing gear ding" is automatic, not like the seatbelt sign "recycling" after take-off. In my airline we were warned by a PA and the ding about the imminent landing !
Hey, thanks for writing! yes the ding is automatic on gear retraction and deployment on most Airbus planes. The recycling of the seatbelt sign some airlines do regardless of the landing gear deployment. QR is one of them. Emirates for example make a PA saying “prepare for landing”. Thanks for the info!
And that’s exactly why I don’t want to fly for a Middle East carrier. Their rest times are ridiculous. I heard many stories from flight attendant and pilots friends, who are flying for QR, EK and EY with hard working days and short layovers. In America and Europe we have laws which make sure we will have enough rest. 24 hours at SFO from AMS? Never going to happen. At least 48, but sometimes 5 days as well. And afterwards enough rest at home. And less flight time as well. Big s/o to my aviation family members from QR, EK and EY for all their hard work. However! Lovely trip report! One of the better channels in my opinion. As senior CA I can learn a lot from trip reports and learn about passenger wishes to make their flights unforgettable. Hope to see you once on board at KLM on a flight I’m working on. Greetings from the Netherlands! 💙
Hey Devinio, thanks for writing again!! This is an interesting subject that I’ve discussed many times, specially with Dutch people as I always get questioned about the Dubai lifestyle and “how I deal with the heat and if I am aware how bad this is for my son”, amongst some comments. First of all, there is no such thing as real legalities in the USA. Crew members can fly up to 180 hours if they want to, with no minimum off or leave. Check it out, I know it first hand. So, as a quick intro, I am half Dutch and have direct family members working for KLM. I live in Dubai and know a very large amount of people in aviation. I’ve dated an Etihad purser for around 3 years and I know tons of people in Emirates. What all know is that yes, QR has some very strict conditions and tough working hours. But the pay is great. So out of all ME carriers it is the least popular. Emirates pays crew insanely good. Far beyond any western airline. The official pay is not even close to the final that they get. Let’s say, besides the salary they get a very high live out allowance. I live in a middle class villa community in Dubai and it is packed with Emirates crew who get the entire thing paid for and even keep the extra to pay for the bills, maid, schooling, etc. I am currently having a beer with an EK A380 F/O and a Purser and his first class crew wife and your comment got the conversation going. Their layover in US is always 48 hours except for some of the East Coast destinations where it is 24-36. Yes, they fly anything from 70 hours to 100 hours during the busy peak season, but get paid over 3 times more of what they got back home at their previous airlines. The F/O tells me that in Europe he would do 3-4 flights a day, minimum rest between short haul flights, 12 hour layovers, which never happens in the UAE. So, similar flying hours, but many more flights and 3-4 times less pay. That is without counting the live out allowance and other bonuses and profit shares. And it’s all tax free! The only hard thing here is that it can get very lonely if you don’t have a proper group of friends or family. But that’s the life of any expat so it could happen anywhere. So I defend the Middle Eastern companies as what they sell is a lifestyle, just like anything in Dubai. You may like it or not. Thousands and thousands continue to apply from many Euro flag carriers in search for a more stable life, higher quality lifestyle and economical stability. 3 times the pay for 20% more work, why not? But it all depends on the person! Anyway, thanks again and sorry for my long reply. I am obviously one of those that is a happy expat who believes this is the place where dreams come true, and sadly not home in Spain or NL. I like how you do your research by watching video’s in order to serve people better! That is so cool! In my opinion, KLM’s strength lies in its people. That “blue blood” feeling is something you don’t see anywhere else in the world. Employees take pride in their company. And dedicated people like you are in full control to make it one of the best! Have a nice one and I wish you many happy flights!
Thanks for your reply! I can imagine, living inside UAE is an incredible way of life! I know they pay good amounts of money, however in Holland there is an amount reserved for us when we will retire. It’s because of law as well. And as you do, we know a lot of FA’s as well, working in UAE, one big aviation family hahaha! But when you’re working for EK for example, you have to collect your own money for your retirement, so that’s also one of the reasons why they earn more. I really appreciate your reply and looking forward for your next movies! About our blue hart, it’s something unbelievable! And I don’t want to be bad to UAE, because I love these airlines/ service as well. We’ve visited Dubai last May and really enjoyed it. Looking forward for our next visits. It was our first time, stafftravel with EK. Their kindness and smoothness inside airport (special staff check-in) is amazing! I will never ever say something bad about our beautiful aviation family. It’s not work, it’s a lifestyle. Once again, thank you and have a good night!
Beautiful words. And thanks to professionals like you I do what I do. It’s what keeps me going. I wish you all the best, I am sure that your career will see no limits!
Hi friend! Nice to see another GREAT video! I will watch your videos tomorrow onboard LH A333 to Dubai 😊 Ahhh .how i would like to fly on A35K once again,Also to/from Dubai like you! 😊And i was suprised that they served the plane so fast! Dubai, how u love the city,my future home❤ I prefer EK380 than QR35K,cuz its amazing how a giant bird can fly! OH! YOU HAVE FLOWN ON THE SAME REGISTRATION LIKE ME! AWESOME,A7-ANG! 😮😅 Hope you are doing well! Thanks for sharing! See you soon my friend! 😎🤙🏻
Very well made review! I always flew Emirates everytime I flew to India, but this winter I will be trying out Qatar for the first time. Hopefully I have a great experience with Qatar.. can't wait!
They’re both great. The EK A380 has no competitor in my opinion and from this winter they’ll also fly the Premium Economy there so that will be my choice. But until then QR is a great airline too if you fly the A350 all the way!
@@aviationtrips yeah I'm a little worried about how my 787-8 experience will be like, I guess I have no choice as the route I am flying on that specific day serves the 787-8..
Great Vlog alex, I would be stressed out on a 15 hour flight😅. My longest flight was 5 hours a long and they passed so slowly. Qatar airways is on my bucket list and so is the A350 the pinnacle of modern aviation as I like to call it.
Time goes super slow on these long flights. Even when you sleep for 6 hours sometimes you still have another 8-10 to go. The A380, A350 and B787 are at the very top of the pinnacle of modern aviation and I admire these machines. Just that the B787 can be terribly uncomfortable in economy.. 😬 Thanks for writing Ali!
Fantastic video! I think EK's A380 Economy Class is better. I have noticed that QR frequently parks planes on remote stands in contrary to EK. I think Emirates should really relaunch Dubai-Doha flights as they will be very profitable. What are we getting for the next video?
That was an excellent video and the first of yours I’ve seen. Someone commented on definitively booking an A 350 (or any other particular aircraft for that matter). Airlines often change the equipment originally stated and Qatar Airways is no stranger to that practice. That means you may end up flying a completely different aircraft than what you were hoping to. I’m so curious: how do you identify all the aircraft you pass, especially those in the distance at altitude?
Thanks a lot for the great comment! The changing the aircraft at QR is true, the other day I broke my record when I was flying my family to Dubai: from A350-1000 to A330-300, to B777-200LR all in less then 6 hours! Not only can you fly a different aircraft type but also different cabin, even if it’s the same aircraft. An A350-900 with Qsuites suddenly swapped to one without. Anyway, the risk there! I know the flights thanks to live plane tracking apps, like flight radar 😜
Hello. Big fan of your videos. Love the details especially the technical details of the aircraft, flaps etc. Just wonderful to watch. Any plans to try to do an Etihad flight A350 soon. ?
Thanks for the nice words! I had booked an Etihad A350 in Business Class and it changed a few hours before the flight to a B787-9.. so I was left without. I’ll have to keep trying!
epic intro alex!! for 350$ for 15 hours flight? - i will do that any time! great edit as always buddy, and I'm super glad you made it to your flight :D the a350-1000 is unique aircraft, BA sends to tlv from time to time there A351, wish one day i will fly with it! travel safe buddy, waiting for the next video!
Thanks Itai! More important than the 350$ is the amount of miles I get from it, which equals to a free upgrade to Business on most of the medium haul flights or even close to a free flight anywhere in Europe from Dubai. So imagine how cool! I wish to take the A35K of BA soon too but it stopped flying to Dubai, perhaps I can check it out from TLV. See you around!
Just a note at 7:30. The landing gear pin, or bypass pin as we call it doesn't stop the gear from retracting on ground. There are sensors in the landing gear itself that stop retraction on ground. The pin is to bypass the nose wheel steering from the flight deck. Would be bad if I accidentally bumped the tiller (knob to the side of the side stick used to steer the nose wheel for taxi) during pushback. The pin disconnects my control of the nose wheel. Great video as always. 8:25 Checking our flight controls before takeoff as mandated by our checklists and SOPs has saved me more than once haha. Always check your flight controls! Ps. Don't let the nice lounge fool you into flying BA again, they are still stuck 20 years in the past 😂
No need to lie at all..I wonder too. Perhaps because they didn’t know what to say. I think I caught them off guard as they just expected me to follow their instructions and just not show up for my flight. I’m sure you look forward to your holidays!!
great trips report ^_^ d. quick question: why the aircraft parked in non gate area? Doha inter airport is huge airport, I'm pretty sure it has enaugh gate to accomodate QR aircraft.
I figured that one airline already found out who exactly I am, so each time I fly with them it’s very obvious that crew are kind of trying too hard? It makes it weird.. So I rather stay as anonymous as possible and cover my tracks as hard as I can (not always possible) so that I can continue to enjoy my trips. Those who show their faces are screwed, every cabin crew in the world knows Sam Chui so he will never be able to have a normal experience 😂
Yasss! The engines are so quiet!! I fly Philly or Dallas to Doha then to Hyderabad india. Always on qatar. Lolol I love it! I smile so everytime when I feel those engines go full power mode... pushing us up into the sky🥰🥰🥰 I so hope to fly business class someday!
I enjoy flying on the A350-900 before Philippine Airlines on a 15 hour flight from Toronto to Manila and roundtrip on economy and premium economy back in 2019 christmas
@@TheLayoverAviation not today..october and november yes 3 trips... but welcoming you to the sleepless city :) i meant watching your videos first thing in the morning is a joy... thanks bro
@@LINJ638It’s all sorted now. Their “whining” was Justifiable. Imagine buying a RR car, and it’s paint starts to peel off two years later, wouldn’t you be doing the same? Except for them it was 53 A350s, each costing at least 300-350 Million USD.
I have already watched the video trip of the Airbus A330-300 from Cairo to Doha ages. It’s ok. Well can you do Turkish, Singapore, Thai or any other airlines?
Excellent flight video and great camera work. QR cabin crew has few issues as per social media postings. Wonder if EK and other airlines have only 24hr layover in long haul destinations??? Expecting many more trip reports from you
28:52 passengers can wait 15 hours in plane, but why can't they wait till the plane gets to the gate after landing. If you listen carefully to the sound, you will find out that a FA is asking someone to sit down when they are getting up.
Another smash hit. Thank you. Don't let the BA lounge at SFO fool you - it used to be a right dump, but looks like they've improved the seating and overall atmosphere- as well as the bubbles 🤩
I never had high expectations of BA lounges but this one changed it all. I’m so glad they’re improving and thanks to that I’ll consider flying them again. The bubbles were some of the best I’ve encountered in any lounge, so kudos to that! Thank for writing!!
Hello! Last february I travel to Japan with QR and we used the A350 from Barcelona to Doha and the Boeing 787 from Doha to Barcelona ( the others jumps were same with A350). I can say that from these two I prefer the A350. Maybe was the configuration but the 787 was very uncomfortable... as a economy pax speaking. Now, in october I'll travel to Japan again but this time with Emirates and I'll be in an A380 so I'll compare this airplanes. People says that the A380 is so good... I'll see! Regards from Barcelona, Spain.
Nice 15 Hours In Economy isn't that hard when it's the number 1 airline. But, Emirates Is Also Good Their Also Great For Long Haul Economy Flights, hoping that you could review Oman Air One Day Too.
I prefer the A380 of EK on this flight as the seats are wider and it makes a biiiiig difference. But the pricing of QR is mostly better. Oman Air is booked in September 😃
@@TheLayoverAviationYeah, I agree I have been on their A380 in 2016 its great. Glad To hear that your going on Oman Air In September I'm going on Oman Air, the upcoming Thursday. But, sadly Emirates does not use A380 anymore for my country Kuwait.
Myself I prefer Emirates most of the times as it feels young and fun while QR is very professional and more serious. But I don’t mind flying QR at all as it’s a solid product.
I know this gets asked often and kudos for your "picture is worth a thousand words" answer about the red wine! I have to go to a tech conference there in few months and booze is the only thing on my mind but thanks for this review: peace...
You asked a very difficult question . If both are Emirates then i go a380 but between a380 and a350 of a different airline maybe a350 depending on the airline. Also did your luggage arrive in Dubai properly ? Because usually when they screw up the flight they do with the luggage too.
I meant for this same flight from SFO.. I think I would go for the A380 as the seats are wider. But QR is cheaper most of the time and they give out miles like candy, so I don’t really know.. My luggage has always arrived! The only time I ever lost some was on United and on Air France.
If you dont mind me asking.. what exactly do you do for work.. that requires you to travel so much and that too long haul ? And why did the crew told you to lower your window blinds ?
I don’t think so.. Specially not on flights to Dubai, as it’s an important destination and they’ll try to take as many passengers as possible from EK..

Have not flown on the Airbus A350 nor the A380 long haul yet to date, but would love to someday though!.,the longest flight I have from flown on was Christchurch in New Zealand to London via Singapore on a Boeing 747-400 on Singapore Airlines.Stop over of 3 hours in Singapore,& onto another 747-400 to London.,total in air time of 24 hours approx in economy👍

Besides the hard work, it’s just so many hours.. Up to a good 22 hours and more for some!
I'm going to say, as a retired pilot (11:00 so far) (a US airline once advertiesed as "Friendly Skies") I am impressed by your knowledge.

I will watch your videos tomorrow onboard LH A333 to Dubai 😊
Ahhh .how i would like to fly on A35K once again,Also to/from Dubai like you! 😊And i was suprised that they served the plane so fast!
Dubai,how u love the city,my future home❤
I prefer EK380 than QR35K,cuz its amazing how a giant bird can fly!
OH! YOU HAVE FLOWN ON THE SAME REGISTRATION LIKE ME! AWESOME,A7-ANG! 😮😅
Hope you are doing well! Thanks for sharing! See you soon my friend! 😎🤙🏻
Took the same flight last September. That was my first time flying international. Safe and happy travels 😀
What a long flight to start you international journey with! I hope you enjoyed it ✈️
Very well made review!
@@TheLayoverAviation will be flying a350-900 on the 1st leg and 787-8 on 2nd leg
@@vignesh7989Their A350-900 Is awesome, but the B787-8 Is so horrible In my experience.
@@aviationtrips yeah I'm a little worried about how my 787-8 experience will be like, I guess I have no choice as the route I am flying on that specific day serves the 787-8..
I actually flew the BA A380 yo London from SFO the first class section was amazing
I’m so looking forward to that, I’ve never flown BA’s A380 in First.. I’m glad you found it amazing, now I have something to look forward to!
Thanks for writing Ali!
Fantastic video! I think EK's A380 Economy Class is better. I have noticed that QR frequently parks planes on remote stands in contrary to EK. I think Emirates should really relaunch Dubai-Doha flights as they will be very profitable. What are we getting for the next video?
I have literally sat down in all model of planes, but the comfort I felt in A350-900 is sheerclass. (doha - London)
It is great indeed. Only the A380 beats it, in my opinion.
@@TheLayoverAviationI agree

- i will do that any time!
great edit as always buddy, and I'm super glad you made it to your flight :D
the a350-1000 is unique aircraft, BA sends to tlv from time to time there A351, wish one day i will fly with it!
travel safe buddy, waiting for the next video!
That is such a great deal! Did you score it with miles + cash or just the latter? And on which site? Thank you!
Love the longer video’s! Would love to see more!
They’re so much work.. I’m choosing a super short one next so I can relax a bit 😂
8:25
Checking our flight controls before takeoff as mandated by our checklists and SOPs has saved me more than once haha. Always check your flight controls!
Ps. Don't let the nice lounge fool you into flying BA again, they are still stuck 20 years in the past 😂
Great description
Always nice to follow you on your trips, i Wonder why they lied ?? Hopfully i will fly to CapVerde in november.
No need to lie at all..I wonder too. Perhaps because they didn’t know what to say.
I think I caught them off guard as they just expected me to follow their instructions and just not show up for my flight.
I’m sure you look forward to your holidays!!
Interesting that Qatar has the manual shades on the new A350s but have the electronic shades for the older planes in business class. Wonder why?
I never really noticed.. Also I never got the electric blinds on any QR A350 for now..
Stunning video, and love the details!
Very glad you do! Thanks for writing 😉
Nice video bro.... love from india but im just on holiday so love from uae my home country
Enjoy your holidays! Home sweet home 🏡
Enjoyed your coverage and believe me I don'.t often thumbs up.
great trips report ^_^ d. quick question: why the aircraft parked in non gate area? Doha inter airport is huge airport, I'm pretty sure it has enaugh gate to accomodate QR aircraft.
I guess that there isn’t enough gate space at DOH as more then half of the flights always get remote stands. I don’t mind though, better filming!!
Amo tus videos con Qatar 👌 un gran abrazo Alejo! Un crack!

Great video!!! Just the food in economy, which do you prefer? EK or QR?
EK will give you more. Quality wise it was both kind of the same.

Hey The Layover aviation😃, I just Wana know how do you spot planes by knowing the exact information? Hoping to get a answer 😀
Hey there! I use live plane tracking apps and radars 😊
@@TheLayoverAviationTysm for answering! Good luck for your next journey 😆
It was a nice trip report..... Hope the issues with airbus and QR has been resolved now
It seems all over now and the Airbus aircraft are being delivered once again.
@@TheLayoverAviation What is up with QR and their whining hissy fit about some paintjob on Airbus???
@@LINJ638It’s all sorted now. Their “whining” was Justifiable. Imagine buying a RR car, and it’s paint starts to peel off two years later, wouldn’t you be doing the same? Except for them it was 53 A350s, each costing at least 300-350 Million USD.
Hi Alex, I hope you are well. Can you make a video of a flight on the Qatar Airways Airbus A330-200 to Dhaka from Doha?
I don’t really like their A330’s 😢
You’ve got a video here on an A330-300 from Cairo to Doha, it looks exactly the same.
I hope to visit Dhaka soon!
I have already watched the video trip of the Airbus A330-300 from Cairo to Doha ages. It’s ok. Well can you do Turkish, Singapore, Thai or any other airlines?
Or Emirates?
PROFESSIONAL JOB ❤❤❤❤❤
Excellent flight video and great camera work. QR cabin crew has few issues as per social media postings. Wonder if EK and other airlines have only 24hr layover in long haul destinations??? Expecting many more trip reports from you
28:52 passengers can wait 15 hours in plane, but why can't they wait till the plane gets to the gate after landing. If you listen carefully to the sound, you will find out that a FA is asking someone to sit down when they are getting up.
Prima verslag weer!
19:40 yes please. This is good too! 🎉🎉
You can thanks airlines for ruining the 787. 3-3-3 was never the configuration for the plane
Nice vlog & Tonnes of love from Amman Jordan

Wow!
flightradar!
I am flying this route on business class next month. What do you recommend the Air France lounge or BA lounge at SFO?
BA! The AF one was under renovation when I went and it was horrible. Perhaps it’s open now. But the BA one was quality!!

Thanks a lot sir,,your videos so amazing i love that,i love Qatar Airways flight
Can you please tell me how can you identify the aircraft and flight numbers to where or from where?
I am using the a350 to London Heathrow at 2:45 with qatar airways
Excellent video... love from India

I have some Air France video’s in Business here but I don’t know if I’ll take it from Mumbai any time soon..
33:08 probably they were short of staff and had to leave seats open due to not enough F/As.
I don’t think so.. Specially not on flights to Dubai, as it’s an important destination and they’ll try to take as many passengers as possible from EK..
Can you please in the next video post from Dubai to Tokyo Emirates A380
