  • Welcome everyone on board one of the longest flights in the Qatar Airways network from San Francisco to Doha and onwards to Dubai on their flagship Airbus A350-1000.
    Link to Emirates A380 DXB-SFO: • 15 hours in Economy! |...
Link to Qatar Airways Qsuite DOH-SFO: • 16 hours in Qsuite | D...
    Thank you for joining!
First of all; I paid only $350 for this and earned a whole bucket of miles with this flight!
I’ve got no idea how they do it, but there is no way they earned a dime with me on this day.
After having flown this ultra long haul on the best seat of the Emirates A380 Economy Class I flew on the very same seat of their Gulf cousin. It is now up to you to decide who do you like best!
While the Emirates flight was 100% full here I had the advantage of the flight being empty. And I staid firm on this seat to be able to show you instead of taking an entire row to sleep!
The flight itself was ok, I enjoyed the A350 product and all the things QR offers. It is still amongst the best airlines in the world, specially for a flight of this length.
The flight attendants themselves were nice but not top level as they used to. It was kindly brought to my attention that they only get a bare minimum 24 hours of rest in SFO with close to 36 hours of duty of which 32 hours in the air. This is while they cross multiple time zones.
I hope this is looked after and they get more rest for their health and better service, just like any other top tier airline grants.
Come and see for yourself what a great aircraft the A350 is.
    Enjoy!
Today we are showcasing you the following flight:
From: San Francisco International Airport, California, the United States of America
To: Doha Hamad International Airport, the State of Qatar
To: Dubai International Airport; Dubai, the United Arab Emirates
    Flight Number: QR 738
    Aircraft Type: Airbus A350-1000
    Registration: A7-ANP
    Flight Time: 15:00 and 00:47.
Don’t forget to like and subscribe if you enjoyed our video!
Feel free to leave a comment with your opinion and feedback.
    Have a nice one!
You can also leave a Super Like as a tip for my work. I’ll invest it all on future trips.

Many years ago, My late beloved wife and myself had finally saved enough to undertake a Bus tour of the US.We flew from LHR to SFO on a pretty worn-out (judging your modern aircraft) PAN AM 747. We were like a pair of excited children as the plane took off from 27L and although we, over a period subsequently undertook two more trips to the US, My enduring memory is that first long haul flight. PS I hugely enjoyed your video!

Hey there! I just wanted to say I just discovered your channel, and you are already one of my favorite flight review channels on RUclips. Your videos are entertaining and useful, and have lots of variety. I also appreciate how positive you are, and you don’t dramatically complain about small details, which is something I can’t say for the more mainstream channels. I love your videos, and keep up the great work!

Keep enjoying and see you around!

I used QR A35K twice on a recent trip and will go out of my way to never book A330, 787, or 77W again! Simply a fantastic aircraft, with better cabin air. I usually get headaches long haul but there were none on A350! As to your comment, I prefer A350 to A380. Also, applause for your attention to detail and gorgeous filming angles. A couple points: 1. it's possible on your DXB arrival ATC wanted the aircraft to vacate as quickly as possible. In that case it would make sense to use reverse and brake generously. 2. There is no such thing as short 'finals', though that's a common mistake. In pilot lingo it's final approach, and ideally there is only one, so it would be 'short final'.

Great video on QR. I personally flew their A350-900 ULR roundtrip from Mumbai to Boston via Doha in 2021 and I was amazed by the product they offer on board. I felt they were much better than Emirates tbh, my both flights though was delayed by 1 hr due to heavy rains in Mumbai & traffic congestion in Doha, the cabin was truely amazing and got great comfort level at 35000 ft, despite a full flight. Despite flying during peak covid, i was still offered 3 meal options to choose from and they were really delicious. Also A350 is such a quiet aircraft and provides the best comfort level, QR has put it to next great level. I also flew same route with Emirates in 2019 and it has its own charm with a quiet cabin and having the entire lower deck of economy class, something that I found great compared to other airlines as one can take a good walk on the lower deck on a flight longer than 8+ hrs, however ground experience with Emirates has been disappointing. But their product offering along with crew and food are also great. I believe QR and EK both have their benefits to fly with along with slight inconsistencies, but apart from that, their flights are pretty good. But would prefer QR only on their A350s or B777s whereas with Emirates ,would prefer only their A380s.

I figured that one airline already found out who exactly I am, so each time I fly with them it’s very obvious that crew are kind of trying too hard? It makes it weird.. So I rather stay as anonymous as possible and cover my tracks as hard as I can (not always possible) so that I can continue to enjoy my trips.
Those who show their faces are screwed, every cabin crew in the world knows Sam Chui so he will never be able to have a normal experience 😂

I was a former A350-900/1000 cabin crew, I'm almost certain that the "landing gear ding" is automatic, not like the seatbelt sign "recycling" after take-off. In my airline we were warned by a PA and the ding about the imminent landing !

    • @TheLayoverAviation
      @TheLayoverAviation  9 месяцев назад +1

Hey, thanks for writing! yes the ding is automatic on gear retraction and deployment on most Airbus planes.
The recycling of the seatbelt sign some airlines do regardless of the landing gear deployment. QR is one of them. Emirates for example make a PA saying “prepare for landing”.
      Thanks for the info!

Great Vlog alex, I would be stressed out on a 15 hour flight😅. My longest flight was 5 hours a long and they passed so slowly. Qatar airways is on my bucket list and so is the A350 the pinnacle of modern aviation as I like to call it.

    • @TheLayoverAviation
      @TheLayoverAviation  9 месяцев назад

Time goes super slow on these long flights. Even when you sleep for 6 hours sometimes you still have another 8-10 to go.
The A380, A350 and B787 are at the very top of the pinnacle of modern aviation and I admire these machines. Just that the B787 can be terribly uncomfortable in economy.. 😬

Just a note at 7:30. The landing gear pin, or bypass pin as we call it doesn't stop the gear from retracting on ground. There are sensors in the landing gear itself that stop retraction on ground. The pin is to bypass the nose wheel steering from the flight deck. Would be bad if I accidentally bumped the tiller (knob to the side of the side stick used to steer the nose wheel for taxi) during pushback. The pin disconnects my control of the nose wheel. Great video as always.
    8:25
Checking our flight controls before takeoff as mandated by our checklists and SOPs has saved me more than once haha. Always check your flight controls!
Ps. Don't let the nice lounge fool you into flying BA again, they are still stuck 20 years in the past 😂

Hello! Last february I travel to Japan with QR and we used the A350 from Barcelona to Doha and the Boeing 787 from Doha to Barcelona ( the others jumps were same with A350). I can say that from these two I prefer the A350. Maybe was the configuration but the 787 was very uncomfortable... as a economy pax speaking. Now, in october I'll travel to Japan again but this time with Emirates and I'll be in an A380 so I'll compare this airplanes. People says that the A380 is so good... I'll see! That was an excellent video and the first of yours I’ve seen. Someone commented on definitively booking an A 350 (or any other particular aircraft for that matter). Airlines often change the equipment originally stated and Qatar Airways is no stranger to that practice. That means you may end up flying a completely different aircraft than what you were hoping to.
I’m so curious: how do you identify all the aircraft you pass, especially those in the distance at altitude?

    • @TheLayoverAviation
      @TheLayoverAviation  9 месяцев назад +3

Thanks a lot for the great comment!
The changing the aircraft at QR is true, the other day I broke my record when I was flying my family to Dubai: from A350-1000 to A330-300, to B777-200LR all in less then 6 hours!
Not only can you fly a different aircraft type but also different cabin, even if it’s the same aircraft. An A350-900 with Qsuites suddenly swapped to one without. Anyway, the risk there!
I know the flights thanks to live plane tracking apps, like flight radar 😜

And that’s exactly why I don’t want to fly for a Middle East carrier. Their rest times are ridiculous. I heard many stories from flight attendant and pilots friends, who are flying for QR, EK and EY with hard working days and short layovers.
In America and Europe we have laws which make sure we will have enough rest.
24 hours at SFO from AMS? Never going to happen. At least 48, but sometimes 5 days as well. And afterwards enough rest at home. And less flight time as well.
Big s/o to my aviation family members from QR, EK and EY for all their hard work.
However! Lovely trip report! One of the better channels in my opinion.
As senior CA I can learn a lot from trip reports and learn about passenger wishes to make their flights unforgettable.
Hope to see you once on board at KLM on a flight I’m working on.
    Greetings from the Netherlands! 💙

    • @TheLayoverAviation
      @TheLayoverAviation  9 месяцев назад +2

Hey Devinio, thanks for writing again!!
This is an interesting subject that I’ve discussed many times, specially with Dutch people as I always get questioned about the Dubai lifestyle and “how I deal with the heat and if I am aware how bad this is for my son”, amongst some comments.
First of all, there is no such thing as real legalities in the USA. Crew members can fly up to 180 hours if they want to, with no minimum off or leave. Check it out, I know it first hand.
So, as a quick intro, I am half Dutch and have direct family members working for KLM.
I live in Dubai and know a very large amount of people in aviation.
I’ve dated an Etihad purser for around 3 years and I know tons of people in Emirates.
What all know is that yes, QR has some very strict conditions and tough working hours.
But the pay is great. So out of all ME carriers it is the least popular.
Emirates pays crew insanely good. Far beyond any western airline. The official pay is not even close to the final that they get. Let’s say, besides the salary they get a very high live out allowance.
I live in a middle class villa community in Dubai and it is packed with Emirates crew who get the entire thing paid for and even keep the extra to pay for the bills, maid, schooling, etc.
I am currently having a beer with an EK A380 F/O and a Purser and his first class crew wife and your comment got the conversation going.
Their layover in US is always 48 hours except for some of the East Coast destinations where it is 24-36.
Yes, they fly anything from 70 hours to 100 hours during the busy peak season, but get paid over 3 times more of what they got back home at their previous airlines.
The F/O tells me that in Europe he would do 3-4 flights a day, minimum rest between short haul flights, 12 hour layovers, which never happens in the UAE. So, similar flying hours, but many more flights and 3-4 times less pay. That is without counting the live out allowance and other bonuses and profit shares.
      And it’s all tax free!
The only hard thing here is that it can get very lonely if you don’t have a proper group of friends or family. But that’s the life of any expat so it could happen anywhere.
So I defend the Middle Eastern companies as what they sell is a lifestyle, just like anything in Dubai. You may like it or not. Thousands and thousands continue to apply from many Euro flag carriers in search for a more stable life, higher quality lifestyle and economical stability.
3 times the pay for 20% more work, why not? But it all depends on the person!
Anyway, thanks again and sorry for my long reply. I am obviously one of those that is a happy expat who believes this is the place where dreams come true, and sadly not home in Spain or NL.
I like how you do your research by watching video’s in order to serve people better! That is so cool!
In my opinion, KLM’s strength lies in its people. That “blue blood” feeling is something you don’t see anywhere else in the world. Employees take pride in their company. And dedicated people like you are in full control to make it one of the best!
Have a nice one and I wish you many happy flights!

    • @deviniojuninck462
      @deviniojuninck462 9 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks for your reply!
I can imagine, living inside UAE is an incredible way of life!
I know they pay good amounts of money, however in Holland there is an amount reserved for us when we will retire.
It’s because of law as well. And as you do, we know a lot of FA’s as well, working in UAE, one big aviation family hahaha!
But when you’re working for EK for example, you have to collect your own money for your retirement, so that’s also one of the reasons why they earn more.
I really appreciate your reply and looking forward for your next movies!
About our blue hart, it’s something unbelievable!
And I don’t want to be bad to UAE, because I love these airlines/ service as well.
We’ve visited Dubai last May and really enjoyed it. Looking forward for our next visits. It was our first time, stafftravel with EK. Their kindness and smoothness inside airport (special staff check-in) is amazing!
I will never ever say something bad about our beautiful aviation family. It’s not work, it’s a lifestyle.
Once again, thank you and have a good night!

Its definitely not bad, but its like getting hummus from Albert Heijn instead of Al Reef bakery in Dubai.
