Ball & Chain, live at the 1967 Monterey Festival. She had performed already and knocked everybody's socks off so they arranged for her to perform again and filmed her this time. I was a teen-ager in 1970 in Toledo, OH, 15. We took off to go see her at the 1970 Monterey Festival. Made it all the way to LA, had 2 weeks to go till the Fest and she overdosed 2 weeks prior. We still went but it wasn't as much fun as we hoped for.

Janis had one of the most unique & powerful voices with a lot of grit. Sadly we lost her too soon. She was only 27 when she died. She had a lot of great songs in her short life such as "Me & Bobby McGee", "Piece Of My Heart", "Down On Me", "Little Girl Blue", "Cry Baby", "Try (Just A Little Bit Harder)", "Get It While You Can", "Bye, Bye Baby", "Move Over", "Mercedes Benz" etc.

Janis voice was hauntingly beautiful and powerful. It's unmistakably unique. Once you hear it, you know straight away it's her. One might not like the music style, but nobody can deny she had talent both as poet and singer.

@@setonhillstudios There's a movie called The Rose with Bette Midler that a lot of people say it's about Janis's life, although it isn't recognised as such by the critics, movie director and the writer of the script. I guess it's up to personal interpretation if it is or not.

There is nothing like seeing and hearing Janis live. She takes it to a whole other level! Some other suggestions, all live video: Cry Baby (Toronto), Maybe (The Music Scene), Work Me Lord (Stockholm), Get It While You Can, Move Over, To Love Somebody (all on The Dick Cavett Show), just to name a few others. Love Janis! ❤️

Janis blew us away back then. No one else like her, then or now! The 60s and 70s were an incredible time for music! You either could do it live or you couldn't and she ripped it up time after time! Others at that time were Jefferson Airplane with the voice of Grace Slick, Heart with Ann Wilson, Linda Ronstadt (sweet but powerful too), Kenny Loggins (wrote Footloose) with "Sweet Reunion" and so many others. Dive in, the water is wonderful!!

    Janis, forever and always.
I like how you found her -- knew she was good, have heard a few of her songs, but never "got" her. That was me, and wow, do I get her now!
I prefer her less-played songs, like "Misery'n", "Turtle Blues", "Trust Me". That last song she recorded on the same day she did Bobby McGee. She and her band first heard, learned, rehearsed, and recorded it in a single day, a few days before she died. Which is why there are no live recordings of it.
Such talent was a gift to the rest of us, from G-d.

    Janice was a staple.
Never had opportunity to see her live.
    Her music resonated.
Even in our small town of Prescott Arizona. ( at the time)
Unfortunately another member of the 27 Club.
Which claimed many at that age involved with heroin use.
Prescott offered an obscure place to hide away from the public. Although there were movies produced there. Like Billy Jack where I'm in the courthouse fight scene. And Bless the Beasts and the Children. (Also a Karen Carpenter theme song )
Although I'm on horseback rounding up buffalo which took place on another ranch outside Sedona.
In late 60s she was rumored to be vacationing there. Her mother died there, and buried at Mountain View Cemetery just 5 mi. from our 1800 + acre historical ranch on Willow Lake. It's where I grew up.
The ranch is now a large subdivision.😢
Big contrast from when the ranch existed. With very little around we were between the Yavapai reservation
(Most all my friends were there)
And the other side was the horsemen School of James Arness.
Ranch also took in half the 400 ac lake Shoreline.
It was there I learned if you want something you have to work for it.
    Sorry for more memory surfacing.
Now that I brought her up Have you listened to Karen Carpenter?
There is a music video of bless the beasts in children that highlights the Prescott area.
    🚜🤠🐂

'Take another piece of my heart'. Janis has more soul than any before or past. A duet with Robert Plant, in his prime, would have been insane. We did get Tom Jones and Janis, but she's on another level.
