Considering your baseline, I reckon you did great! Not necessarily an easy car to drive on regular streets either. Great build on your brothers end btw, excellent track weapon.
Awesome video, Lucy! Always good for us to get out of our comfort zones. And doing it with your brother in his awesome built Mini is so cool! Keep ‘em coming!
Nicely done, Lucy! It’s really nice to see the car and track experience from a fresh perspective. Now you need to wheedle your way into one of those supercars and give it a go!
Awesome video! Looked a lot of fun to make and the cinematography is spot on! I used to be really nervous with driving after covid too but found over the last year doing increasingly longer drives along routes I'm fairly familiar with helped massively! Start with drives of an hour or so, and then gradually increase the distance as you get confident. Plan out your routes in advance with multiple stops you can do if you need a break, and try to do the drives during better weather conditions and times of day as well! Even bringing a more confident passenger who can help is really useful to gain confidence when you start out building confidence! I still do feel a bit nervous with driving, but am now way more confident with driving, especially with distance and unfamiliar roads, and have now done several 3 hour each way drives on my own! Hope you find this of help!
My goodness, Lucy... You are just getting better and better as an on-camera presenter. These videos are getting seriously good now. They're an absolute hoot to watch!
I do enjoy your videos Lucy. No BS or pretense, just honest, straight comment. 🙂 If I was 46.3 years younger, I would invest some effort in attracting your attention. Mini sounds tasty. You really have to try it yourself on a track, so you can really give it some Jandal.. Great fun.
Always nice to see your smiling face Lucy! When you start feeling anxious remember your brain needs oxygen to work properly....so take deep breaths, smile and make the choice to turn that fear into FUN!!! You've got this!! Cheers!
Well done Lucy! Watched this video right after watching Izzy Hammond getting coached by Abbie Eaton on drivetribe. That could be a fun video for you as well, Abbie could teach you a lot I bet, and might even help with your driving anxiety
I love where you are taking your channel! I know you shared that you are "not built for speed" but the average Formula One driver has a BPM of 140 on the long straightaways and nearly 180BPM in the high speed curves. Your starting rate at 145 was right on the mark. High performance driving requires an excellent fitness level. Note- a slight degree of nausea is not unusual in the passenger seat of new rally car navigators. Very similar to sea sickness or air sickness due to the shaking of the inner ear. I think you did fantastic!
When I saw the thumbnail, I kinda got my hopes up that in the near future, there might be a Drivetribe Collab with you racing your brother's Mini on a track with Izzy in her Mini. It is clear that this is not on the cards, but maybe Jack and Izzy could be talked into having a friendly race? (Ooh... Relay racing, Izzy and Richard Vs Jack and James!) Seriously though, props to you. I know a few people who passed their test just before the lockdowns and were very apprehensive about getting behind the wheel after. My advice to each of them was to get in contact with their driving instructors, and ask to be booked in for a couple of refresher lessons. It can make a world of difference being back in the comfort of a dual controlled car with your instructor, just to help her your confidence back. I don't think enough people realise that you can continue having lessons after you pass your test. So on the off chance any nervous drivers out there read this comment, the rest of this is for you: There is nothing wrong with getting additional lessons. If you've got your license but are apprehensive about your first time on a motorway (as an example), call your instructor and ask if they will give you a lesson on a local motorway. (There is a scheme called PassPlus which was about giving newly passed drivers a few extra lessons and would include motorway driving. Some insurers offered a discount on coverage for people that sat a PassPlus course, I'm not sure if any still do). If you struggle with any part of your driving, don't be embarrassed about contacting your driving instructor and asking for lessons that will help your confidence in those areas. The extra lessons can help improve your confidence and reduce your anxiety. The less anxious you are behind the wheel, the safer your driving will be, and being a safer driver is absolutely worth the cost of a few extra lessons. (If you are unfortunate to have had an instructor you didn't really get along with and don't want to have extra lessons from them, call other instructors. You don't have to go back to the instructor you passed your test with.)
You did great and i'm jealous of your brothers garage 👍 I havent driven for 15 years (jobs here tend to prefer paying for public transport over paying for fuel and parking, so pretty much havent driven since i got my license haha) and i would be scared sh*tless driving a track car 😂
I love the idea that people can't make decisions at 135mph. People who race have the opposite issue ... when you come off track everything seems to be going SO SLOW! It's one of the reasons pit lane speed limits are so harshly controlled ... people come off the track and drive faster than is safe but they just can't tell because their brain is calibrated for on-track speeds. Then there is F1 where you have to react multiple times every corner to keep from crashing while going 135mph.
You have James Mays way of thinking, cars designed for tracks give up their smooth ride abilities for everyday usage. "They ruin the ride for 90 percent of people just catering for 10 percent of the people who will actually use them on the track." I think the same. P.S. Drivers don't have time to think, they learn to just do, muscle memory, since thinking takes time and that time will take you straight to the scene of the accident. Vroom Vroom. Ha ha.
Wow 👌🏽. Cool and amazing 👏. This is the Lucy Brown I want to see. Try it on a less severe track than Goodwood ? Is Hammond interested in sponsoring Jack Brown ?
I reckon a good apprenticeship under james may and we could have potential top gear presenter down the line . Its the gonest approach and no frills . I think a bit of "media training" and she would be a shoe in for the job . Go lucy
It seems to me that your biggest problem is that you don't have enough experience driving different cars. The more experience you have driving different cars the more adaptable you are as a driver. Trying to drive a track spec car with limited experience is very difficult so you did very well. You just need to exploit your motoring connections to get behind the wheel of more cars!
14:17 145 bpm i’m assuming your doctor is aware? Regardless, tell your brother I would like to be a ride along and or drive that car.I am a GRRC member. Glad you both survived.
Lucy vs Izzy battling on track when?!...oh i see...never.... sorry Lucy but that was pathetic...you really shouldnt have anything to do with cars if thats your attitude...

Terrified Lucy Brown is the funniest Lucy Brown. Great video, and kudos to Jack for giving you such a fun, albeit scary, experience.
It's good to see a bro and sis sharing their passion!

Bravery is facing fear, brave Lucy Brown.
*Fantastic* content Lucy Brown, *superb* work on the Mini Jack, keep those uploads coming Lucy! 🤩
I love things like this. Your bro's mini is awesome. A proper petrol-head.
Your brother was quite calm and encouraging for you. A mandatory track ride for any auto journalist and maybe not your last. Cheers 🇨🇦
Wow a James Gin video and a Lucy Brown video in the same day. How lucky am I?
Algorithmically this is average. I love it!

Being the passenger on track is much scarier than being the driver. Well, done.
Need to to a get Ben Collins to teach you on a track day.
Quite entertaining and the car is quite impressive.
Great video!
Vroom, Vroom!
Fun video ! You really need to get behind the wheel. They should have track days for novice drivers with some basic instruction.
Relax Ms Brown, You did a great job.
If this video is Lucy Browns xmas present to us video, I'll take it! But always left wanting more.
15:27 = anxiety. A mentally created obstacle that seems insurmountable. Until you do, then you realize the fear was fabricated and not real.

Lucy Brown in a bombing motor. Who would have thought you in that 😂
Dad joke. So he has a mini workshop 😂
My favorite audio track was Lucy Brown speaking in German 🇩🇪
You could try make a video with Izzy Hammond and Drivetribe youtube channel: Izzy is driving different cars and also from UK.
Great build. Everything takes time but you should get on track witha slower car and a road going mini and it might help you adjust.

At least you know your limitations. 😉👏🏻
