- In this video I show you the tips and tricks on how to paint your hot rod using base coat clear coat at home. This is such a fun and rewarding job when you can do it your self, not to mention that it saves you money also. I used Ppg dcu 2002 clear and Xprime base coat in roman red and Xprime in ermine white for the stripe. The gun I used is a @Walcomspraygun slim kombat 1.3 HTE. I remember as a 5 yr old in 1962.... playing chase and cutting my eye lid open on one of those fins on same model car .I was kinda sweet on one of the girls there... and had to act tough.... until one kid said.... ooh... you got blood all down your face .... heck with the girl.... I went running screaming for daddy. Had to get stitches on my eyelid. Great job and great video!! New subscriber.

I'm not fan of fins but you have brought out all the lines and curves Detroit could offer in 1960. You da man! I really enjoy learning from you. That clear coat has everything popping and now, I have to watch the entire playlist. One thing I've learned from you is this level of work takes a lot hard work, patience and skill which you have mastered.

Man, that is a lot of sheet metal in the old "60. From some camera angles and that long trunk, it looks like it wouldn't take much to have an El Camino. You had it looking really good in the primer stage and I can only imagine how much work had gone into it at that point. Just saw the first color coat go and I will watch the rest of the video.

how do you keep the vent from dripping on that paint cup? Great videos !!!!
Thank you, this gun has never had that trouble but .I have had it do that with another gun before, I just tape a paper towel over the breather cap and it helps to keep it from running out a d it will still breath. Thanks for watching!!!!!!

Incredible! I saw you tack between base coats to remove the over spray. I don't think you tacked between the three clears is that correct? Thanks!
Thank you very much !!! Your right, the sealer and base coats dry to touch in 15 minutes or so then you tac between every coat, but the clear is still sticky between coats so you never attempt tacking the clear coat, but sometimes I wish I could hahahaha.

Noticed the tape has been yellow in several different RUclips channels. Is it special or best for painting?
I like it, its a 3m tape its kinda pricy but it works well and dont leave tape residue behind. My favorite is the green. It is 3m 233 tape but its like $8.00 a roll.
how long does it normally take to do a complete finished job and get the car ready to drive?

It's base / clear. I can't remember the base brand but the clear is ppg dcu 2002, it's pricy but it's awesome. The color is roman red .
@@ACDesignsGarage okay ive only dealt with single stage with clear coat and that's been over 10years ago and i didnt know what i was doing then lol. How fast does the paint dry to the point you can tack cloth it? and how long was your window for painting another coat without sanding? thanks for the video
