The Slip light is your car telling you you've lost traction, at least normally when there are no issues. It usually flashes when traction is lost. VDC (Vehicle Dynamics Control) which is basically your traction control. Both of those lights being on usually mean your brake fluid is low/needs to be changed, or your brake pads need to be changed. Is there an airbag light on as well? I know the car was in an accident, it could be related to the clock spring on the steering column as a result from the accident.
You are indeed correct about those lights staying on being correlated with the brake system. Mine came on when I had to rebuild a brake caliper. I bled the brakes but forgot to top the fluid off. The lights came on, then went away when I turned it off, then started it again. Just to come right back on shortly after. When I finally noticed it was low on fluid, I topped it off and the lights stayed off. I always drive with the VDC off anyways. I have the X awd version and my front suspension bushings are on their last legs. So whenever I'm on the highway and I'm driving it a little spirited than I should. The fwd assist kicks in and Itll have bad wheel hop. I'm sure it needs new shocks/struts and springs as well. Due to how loose it feels whenever it hits bumps at high-speed and the front wheels start to bounce. The VDC has a tendency to make it even worse.
He's lucky, it's hard to find a manual g35 let alone a sports package one with the Brembos, you sir are lucky, can't wait to see the car finished, btw since a lot of us would like to buy the car maybe a fan auction in cali after the challenge, roadkill style?
VQJunkie I got one acouple months back, sports package for 3k. It was running and driving good except front was crashed in nothing was damaged but the front bumper and fenders. Brought it back to life haven't had a problem since
VQJunkie i would pay for his bill at the bar lol i could see this happening since he likes his beers
Fuck yeah they do, dat ass is beautiful. I remember being on my motorcycle when an 03 cut in front of me heading for the on ramp. At first I was pissed then I gave them credit for a smooth move, that's when I noticed how nice that rear end was. I was happy enough to find an 05 coupe with a spoiler... Lots of fun... got it two years ago.
Yup looked for a year couldnt find and the ones i did where way way way over priced like $16k for 120k miles had to settle on an auto and that was the worst mistake
so its not reliable? can you explain what kind of issues you had?
9k subs within a week, good to see the channel continuing to grow at the pace it deserves
I have the same year Nissan 350z and if your VDC OFF, SLIP and ABS lights are all on at the same time, its mostly going to be an ABS sensor right next to the wheel bearing. The wire may have gotten pulled out in the crash.
Or it could be just low brake fluid level
Alec R it can also mean car needs a alignment that's how I fixed my g35 coupe and by the looks of the bent control arms it can most likely be that
I had a G35 and after whiteline bushings install I had the VDC OFF, SLIP, and ABS lights on. After an alignment they all went off.
yup probably low brake fluid or pads. you can always clear delete the codes if it bothers you
Hey don't know if you fixed this problem or not but I have a 2010 Nissan Altima daily and my mechanic said it was the brake fluid but could also be ABS sensor.
You know it's going be a good night when B is for build is uploading
Awesome video as always, Chris! Love the fact that you have 100 different projects, to me it shows that you are 100% into the channel and what you do. Dont think people understands that... Keep it up!
Wow! I can see why your digging this car. I love the exhaust note!
lol I like how he quickly skipped the process of the being locked in the car until it was open, u know he was freaking out and probably yelling on camera lol
new to the channel have been hearing about his legendry tho. starting off w this series and already liking the channel 👍👍
I'm sure you've already figured these out, but yes, VDC is Traction control. Stands for Variable Dynamic Control. SLIP is an indication that your tires have slipped or broken free (a detection that the wheel speed between each wheel doesn't match). However, if both the VDC and SLIP lights are on, won't turn off, and pushing the VDC Off button does nothing, you'll wanna start reading forums/manuals. Possibly a blown fuse, electrical issue, or some sort of other engine trouble.
Either way, good luck. Great choice on the budget car! I love my G35 :)
Front control arms were the 1st things I needed to change out when I bought my car stock. The VDC vehicle dynamic controller is the light you see on the dash informing you that there is no traction control which is just braking the wheels that slip to keep you from wrecking when the VDC light is off. I keep it off for track use always. When you see SLIP that means VDC is on but wheels are slipping. Hope this helps. Also, you may want to adjust, you will want to adjust the rear camber so the inside tread doesn't wear so fast.
VDC is for the Traction control. The ECU will cut the engine power when it senses a tire is slipping. if you press and hold the VDC OFF button for ten seconds in park, it will disable the feature.
Its nice to see a diversity in cars that you get keep up the hard work man and things will keep panning out for you!
Man I'm so pumped for this G35 build, apocalypse, rat rod whatever idc as long as it's mean
Hey Chris, I really appreciated your video today! I just wrecked my GTO, and I have so much more motivation to take care of everything and not worry about how pretty it is. B is for Bodywork! also, looking forward to getting my B is for Broke stickers
Slip Brake and VDC lights on together usually means low brake pressure. Topping off fluid can hopefully solve that. Also could be a Blown ABS fuse. Hope that helps. Best of luck with the build, I have an 06 coupe 6mt myself. Very excited to see this done!
I'm actually a big fan of this build
Success on two fronts! Congrats Chris!
This drive was so nice, you should do these more often with more of your cars!
The exhaust sounds really nice!
Vdc - infinities version of traction control. It stands for Vehicle Directional Control.
Slip - the slip light comes on when the wheels brake loose. The vdc plus slip light combo is a combo that has stumped all infiniti owners with a g35. It can be many things. One being that an abs sensor is bad. Any other persons guess is as good as any. Just get the code read. But there are ecu reset procedures you can do within the car with pedal and ignition patterns. Check forums like g35 driver and such. Lots of helpful things on there.
I know I'm a little late but if you take the rear wheels and put them on the front they will clear the brembos then put the smaller Wheels on the back since they have smaller calipers.
VDC off means you have the "Vehicle Dynamic control" turned off which can affect your car's stability during evasive driving. Slip means that a difference in wheel speed has been detected and you're spinning your tires.
VDC is traction control. The slip light is showing the wheels are not spinning at the same speeds like sliding on snow.
Check your speed sensor on the smashed side of the car.
i like how he left the skipping the intro part in the video. makes you seem very authentic
VDC is your trac control, you can turn it off or on. Slip is just an indicator of when you lose traction to the back wheels. Usually comes on when you take off on gravel or sand.
THIS CHANNEL DESERVES MORE SUBS, quality content.... keep it up!!!
Can't wait to see what its going to look like finished.
"Slip" means the loss of traction is sensed by the traction management system in the car and the "VDC" (Vehicle Dynamic Control) in Nissans and Infinitis is their traction control button practically, but I don't think it can totally turn the traction control off in those cars rather that it can just lessen the amount that it interferes. Also the VDC light on the dash usually goes away after 5 miles of driving if you disconnect and reconnect the battery.
"There are any number of things that could cause the lights to come on:
Speed sensors (in the back of the hub)
Brake pads low
Brake fluid low
Incorrect tire sizes
Alignment"
this is what i found on some G35 drivers forum
Cars for Breakfast also the cam sensor on the driver side can be the reason
as a former G35 owner the VDC can be completely turned off by pressing the button. Also when SLIP and VDC are on the dash its usually means the brake pads are low or brake fluid is low.
I added a switch in my car that disables the traction management system right under the center console and those lights come on when i activate my switch
hellriser180 it means your tires are slipping loosing traction on the back tires on the slip light
Pro tip: Get yourself a big piece of cardboard to lay on (washer box, dryer box, etc.). It reduces the pine needle/wet ground misery and makes it easier to find nuts and bolts when you drop them. Just be sure to store it in your garage overnight.
I feel like someone probably already said it but VDC stands for vehicle dynamic control, basically traction control and slip indicates when the tires lose traction normally
Hey Chris, if you want a cheap way to fix your bushing: there's a way you can stick some thick rubber around it and it'll last for a couple weeks.
The Aston Martin startup was the best part.
I have a 03 G35 and sometimes when the vdc and slip stay onit means either the crankshaft position sensor or camshaft position sensor is faulty. In the past it's given me trouble starting for that reason might be worth checking out.
the VDC and SLIP are part of the traction control check the ABS wires on that RF tire or use the scan tool if you have one that reads manufacturer specific codes
By the way Slip means exactly what it sounds like this light will come on when your tires are slipping and VDC is your traction control. Since both lights are on imma take a guess and say it has to do with abs sensors and all those traction control sensors in the wheel/suspension area hope this helps 👍🏻
nice, time for another episode of B is for build. Getting pop corn ready now!
I have to say that I wish I had a place to be able to do builds , my garage is stuffed , but I will make room to work on a couple of projects I have , great videos ,hope you do well in the challenge .
Damit....you have me looking on Copart now for new projects....
No "B is for Broke" key tag?
Need a "B is for Broke" key tag for my 2014 Camaro 2SS 1LE and a "Built not Bought" for my 1982 C20 Suburban which I got running last summer thanks to your channel which motivated me to fix it myself!
I love the exhaust note on those.
The VDC off is the traction control, and slip means that the LSD is slipping. To turn it back on just hit the VDC button next to the little trunk release tab
For the VDC Light and Slip Light, it could be the Clock Spring that needs to b replaced. Check if the horn works and or the controls on the steering wheel (volume etc). If not it could be a rack n pinion/ alignment type situation
Have fun the with build! I wish I had the mechanical know-how to do harder repairs like this on my G35
G35s run staggered wheels. Front and back wheels are different sizes. Vdc is the slip control. 'Slip' indicates the car thinks your tires are spinning so slip control is engaged
For the dash lights, check your brake fluid level. If the level is even slightly below the "low" line fill it to the "max" line. These cars are pretty sensitive.
the vdc I believe stands for variable drive control. The vdc and slip lights will both turn on everytime you disconnect the battery on most Nissan's. give it a little bit of time while driving and the lights will both turn off
The lights on is your camshaft positioning sensor, it can cause a hard cold start it's an easy install and about 70 bucks
The vdc off and slip lights are most likely on because your front wheels are scrubbing, my 350z did that when I changed my control arms but after I got an alignment they went off
You could attach leaf blowers to the car and use those as an alternative to the radiator fans.
You may not need to weld the differential. if I remember correctly, the g35s with the 18 inch wheel option came with a factory lsd.
Great job....loving the channel. Not sure about the job you lost, but you are probably a ton better at this!
you need to make a few more yanks with the FJ on that front upper frame rail. it's still shortened about 3/4 in., and it's still pushed inwards a touch.
Not a huge problem if you're going to just rag on it, but if you want to do any hard driving, or get a fender back on .
That Kmart parking lot is like 15 min from my house...had no idea you were so close!
This just proves that fenders, hoods, bumpers and lights are overrated.Chris you're a savage.
Good episode. That jack/lift is sweet!
best car chanel now days
you are so real. I love this channel!
The Slip and VDC off stuff usually has to do with low brake fluid. But it could be a sensor within the brake or ABS system or a blown fuse for said systems. But usually it's low brake fluid, sometimes due to low brake pads.
Love your videos bro, i saw the vid when u lost ur job glad ur doing well with all these builds thats a dream job of mine i watch all the vids dude keep em coming!!
I don’t know if you know yet but vdc and slip lights on together means there’s a code that needs to be checked. Infiniti’s are know for having mindless electrical issues and that’s what usually causes the code, for the one I worked on for a while it was usually because of the radio and some mods that I didn’t use resisters to trick the computer.
VDC and slip is the ABS.Not sure if its the same but on mine the vdc button is under the steering wheel to the left. PS your G might have a stock LSD .
VDC and SLIP lights on usually mean a failed/disconnected ABS sensor (or low brake fluid).
But, it can also come on due to low oil or a bad Cam/Crank Position sensor (super common on early G35's).
Love your videos man keep doing what you're doing
Slip and VDC lights coming on at the same time could be a number of different things. Could just need more brake fluid, or the brakes pads are low. Could also need a steering angle sensor which would make since from that huge impact.
Slip is the TCS light when TCS is doing something, VDC is vehicle dynamic control, basically TCS
@BisforBuild if you have VDC + Slip lights illuminated on your dashboard, it usually means that you have low brake fluid.
that vq sounds so good
Hello I've owned a g35 a while back ago, I had the vdc and slip lights on when I got the car, my problem was I don't quite remember exactly but it could be your steering wheel clock spring also different size wheels will set both lights off. I know you got the same ones. but it could be a simple fix like checking the brake fluid!! best of luck
the upper suspension triangle is hitting the bent part of the frame. that's the noise you hear! we can see on the video that there's not much space for it to move up. also the front right wheel looks like it has positive camber because the control arm you didn't replace is also bent.
VDC off + slip usually means low brake or clutch fluid. If fluids are full its the wheel speed/abs sensors not reading right .
Already loving the build and idea, thank you for the entertainment, keep up the good work! :DD
I think battery donations would work in your favor! keep up the builds man!
If you can return the headlight (and want to) I have an aftermarket (but looks like OEM) 03-04 G35 sedan HID headlight I'd be willing to let go for really cheap (like shipping cost only). The light will look strange obviously but maybe(???) the connectors are the same as the coupe and will help out your budget.
Kevin Rickard email him about it at chris@bisforbuild.com, he will answer.
Kevin Rickard he has a coupe not a sedan. two different headlights.
slip and vdc.... had these lights and abs light on... one of the speed sensors on the wheel got unhooked! easy fix hope yours ends up the same. usually means one of the corners sensors is messed up or needs to be replaced.
VDC is the Vehicle Dynamic Control. The button should turn it on and off but a common mod is to swap it so the vehicle defaults to it being off.
love watching these!
Very similar car that I owned. I had an ‘03 6MT, same color, but with a spoiler and black interior. I leased it, then bought it off lease, and sold it a year later for a small “profit”. Fun car, but it did have some build quality issues. All covered under warranty, but still a bit of a PITA. I do miss the sound of that engine and exhaust though.
Hey you mentioned you need to weld the diff. I'm pretty positive that the g35 has a vlsd from factory, which isn't weldable as far as I know. Just a heads up
If the slip light (let's you know if the wheels are slipping) is constantly on, with the with the vdc off (with out pushing the button). They probably unhooked the for/fob sensor. It's under the center console. They do that so the vdc is truly off an you can lanch an do burn outs!
Swap front to back for the wheels!! Keep the big ones in front, the tiny wheels might fit the rear calipers.
Cool video, 2nd one I've tripped over and I've gotta say I've enjoyed the content. Do wanna mention Co-Part they deal with AAA Insurance companies and they have adjusters on site so the cars they bring in are top notch. Good luck on this build and I think I'm going to sub now as this was the 2nd time I've just happened on your channel and I've enjoyed it so keep it up! Thanks for the show!
The vdc button kinda disables the traction control. When the car is fully functional, the light should come on when you press that button. In your case it could be multiple things. The speed/abs sensors could've gotten damaged in the prior accident, or your clock spring could be bad or misaligned behind the steering wheel. I have an 03' 350z and I've experienced those issues. Oh, and you should have a vlsd on the car because you were equipped with the brembos and have that vdc button.
Either, the camber on the wheel is setting off the Slip and VDC lights, so an alignment would fix it. Or you need to reset the steering wheel sensor. :)
Pretty sure the lights that you got are because the break pads are due for replacement, I had does lights on my 2009 m35s, hope that helps :)
hes hasn't posted an Aston Martin video since the first. I don't think he was expecting such a backlash
Aaron Sanders I think he's waiting to do g35 and brz first
Kian Blackwell Or he's waiting on parts
Kenneth Sev parts would be hard to find
Aaron Sanders he has to sell the v8 engine first so he can use that money to do the build
Everyone gets that. They just think its wrong.
There are a lot of things that can cause the slip and VDC OFF lights to turn on, usually a failed sensor is to blame. Check the ECU for codes and you'll probably find something
idk if someone answered your question but slip comes on when traction control kicks in and vdc off means the traction control is off
I am pumped about this build
VDC is traction control which is strange that it is off considering you didn't turn it off. Usually it's always on unless you turn it off, until you turn your car off and back on and VDC will reset to on again. Slip usually only shows up when your car feels it is losing traction, its not usually a sold light, just kinda flashes as it loses.
Seeing the Mustang is teasing me. I wanna see that beast run and melt some rubber. Fix that tune bro!
That infinity sounds great 👌🏻
Run the black wheels in the back with smaller brakes and the 18s in the front
thewafflesareburnt THANK YOU THAT YOU SAID THAT i was too lazy to say it
thewafflesareburnt he's already taken them back to the place he got them from
trollmaster3245 too late he returned them
RIP when you reply before finishing the episode
He did wow this is what happened when I don't watch the full video and comment way too early
One option for a way to make it look amazing would be to get a body from the company Vaydor. It is quite expensive, but might have a good return because it makes it look like a million dollar car.
Try and find some OEM 19in Rays. 19x8 front, 19x8.5 rear. Both have +30ish offsets. But with just 20/25mm spacers or even 25/30mm youll be flush with the fenders. On my OEM Rays I run 20/25 and my wheels sit pretty flush. Have a great looking stance
Ha ha "oh I forgot to do the intro thing stay tuned"
... "power steering fluid is kinda like soap" ...
hycron1234 "at least I have a left headlight so I can still turn left"
"smells like burning, I'd like to turn now"
hycron1234 "don't be a b**** about it"
"Jesus what did I leave in the street?~!"
Those lower control arm bushings cause some gnarly clunks in these cars. Just had mine replaced. Not end of the world but definitely an irritating sounds over every crack in the road
the slip and vdc light combo is usually triggered in nissans that throw an error code eventually for the camshaft sensor i think.
Vdc off and slip lights came on for me. It was the cam shaft sensor driver side on an 06 g35coupe
I have an 08 G35X had the same lights on, changed the brake fluid and they turned off.
Those lights mean different things separately but together it is likely that the car is in limp mode. You could have a number of issues such as wheel speed sensors (probably front passenger side) errors, abs sensors, power steering etc.
