@@yamahonkawazuki what I love about long train ride videos (especially if one rode on the actual train itself), it's pretty damn relaxing when checking out the scenery along the journey
Love your videos Sergei. You have a finely developed skill for selecting just the right viewpoint, for following precisely where the train action is; in short you know what to look for and exactly how to capture that. Please keep taking these trips and keep us up to date with what is going on within the train and on the tracts. Thank you very much.
and funny enough, after checking out his Philadelphia/Pittsburgh train ride video, I actually took that very same train out to Johnstown and did some sightseeing around the area
I love your videos! I can't get to ride a train, right now, but I hope to some day. It is like a tour guide video. Thank You! I rode a train, once, from N.Y. to St. Louis to go to boot camp. Overnight on a train is an incredible experience.
Taken this train many times from Boston to ny and balt. Nice ride, good view of back alleys, minor league ballparks, old warehouses and small towns. America you don't see from an interstate or 25000 feet in the air. Also don't have to get to the station 2hrs early, wait in line for security and you can leave your shoes on. Grab a coffee and paper and head to the platform. Oh yeah, the seats are big enough for normal sized humans.
Oh wow RUclips just showed this to me. Love it. 172/173 are my trains of choice when I go to Boston from NYC every January for Arisia (a Boston area science, fiction convention).
1 Thing I Definitely Have To State About This Amtrak NorthEast Regional #173 Is That Whoever The Conductor Is He’s Definitely Rolling & On Time For Destination Stop Along The Way No Delays No Nothing Purely On Time That’s How I Luv Riding Amtrak Without No Delay’s Whatsoever Cause Ain’t Nothing Worse Than Being Late 2 Ur Destination Period Anybody Can Definitely Tell U That
We did this ride a few years back, but were fortunate enough to be able to take Acela. If I had time to kill with nothing better to do, I would take the trip again just for the entertainment value, but would take a regional the next time.
wow....New Haven would amaze me, because CRAZILY - for as far as the eye could see - that place so resembled that other cozily GINORMOUS zone of discard known as The Bronx....they levelled ALL that blight; gone!! 💥 _pooof_ 💥
I enjoy taking this train when I've got to go from NYC to Providence but man, it just plods through Connecticut. Just ridiculous that CT, highest per capita income of any state in the country, and with thousands of residents who commute to NYC, can't see their way to upgrading the track. There are cars on I-95 passing it.
My house is at 52:51 (you would see it if you were looking out of the window on the right of the train). Right next to the tracks =) And I noticed at 53:55 you liked the 400ft windmill that is across from the Wickford Junction MBTA train station.
cActUsjUiCe- I once got a clear view into my own living room, while departing on a jet from the local airport. It was only for a few seconds, but I can only imagine what the view might have been at night with the lights on. Afterwards, I always closed the blinds when my girlfriend and I were making love on the living room floor. Seeing as we were on the top floor of a high rise apartment, she thought I was nuts, BUT... She wasn't on that flight with me that afternoon. Lol!
Great video I rode this train last fall I went down to DC took 9 hours to get their .Amtrak was doing a lot of track work that day .It was last year 2015 .
BTW, thank you, thank you, thank you, for taking the time to tape the entire trip viewing out the window, and not your belt buckles view of your seat, opening vestibule doors, walking through the entire consist. I know what the inside of a train looks like!
Even with no ROW work, between New Haven and New York there are so many curves! The closer to NYC the worse it gets. Across Rhode Island the ROW is straight for mile after mile. The Acela does 150 through there, and a regular NEC train goes around 130!
Great video. Thanks. The girl on the seat off you don`t like it. She looks a few time backwards. She is Dutch I think, I hearding someone dutch spoken. I am Dutch too. But A great video. Make more of these videos.
Sergei's notes indicate there are three different electric types used on this trip: (1) Boston to New Haven, (2) New Haven to NYC (Hell's Gate Bridge), and (3) from there to DC. I assume that # 3 was the Pennsylvania's choice of current, and # 2 was the current choice of the New Haven Railroad. My question is why the choice of current for # 1? That stretch's electrification started in 1996 (before that New Haven to Boston was diesel). Since nothing beyond New Haven was electrified, I'm hoping Sergie or someone else can explain why was a different type chosen for that route.
Hi sergei! Your videos are great, but I was wondering if you maybe show more shots of the cabin, seat, lounger car (etc.). It would give much more of a feeling as if we were their, then glued to the window
You are an astute cameraman too ! You turned your camera for ... wye next to the mainline, curves observable to the left, and the Astoria BMT elevated line. I like a non-robotic cameraman ! Aarre Peltomaa P.S. I want to look at the B/C tunnel portal for the East Side Access project to Grand Central Station. They were taking forever to uncover it, and get the transformers out of the way. I haven't gotten there yet. I'm still on the Hell's Gate Bridge approach.
So I'm watching an American train ride and what's the first thing I hear? People speaking Dutch. I don't think I've ever been on a train where I *didn't* hear anyone speaking Dutch.
TBH, HSR really only makes sense along the Northeast Corridor, because intercity rail makes sense with denser populations. A businessman in Boston would save hours riding the Acela to a meeting in DC, versus traffic in multiple cities, and preparing to fly there.
Great Video! But I'm planning my. Take the Acela from Philadelphia to Boston and what memery card did for this? I'm planing to get the 128mb one but I love riding amtrak in very calm and relaxing. Thanks for posting this! You should also check out my channel

You can actually drive there an hour faster than taking the train, if you take the right roads to avoid the major urban areas or you take a plane to get there in less than an two hours. Probably closer to 4 with security. Still two hours faster than a train. And this was faster than most times. I had a friend take it from NYC to Boston three years and it took five hours due to a issue with the loco which could not exceed 70 MPH the entire way. No wonder why Amtrak is bankrupt and no one wants to fund it.
Downtown to downtown. No hassles with transportation, say from JFK airport to midtown Manhattan or Dulles to DC. When I went to college in DC and would go to visit family in NYC, when you added the commute time to both airports, the total time traveling was very similar, less than a half hour, and the train was more comfortable.
