- Garlic sauce using a hand food blender
When one becomes fanatic in watching as many videos as they can on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok & RUclips, the common theme in all of them is how to make Lebanese garlic sauce 🧄 (aka Toum) the easiest way with minimum effort.
For me, it’s about making a small amount of Toum & with the minimalist of equipment needed, so here is our home version!
Also, once you make Toum, it can last in the fridge in an airtight container for at nearly 2 weeks.
Note: You can remove the small core of the garlic clove, before using, if you don't like it so spicy. It'll still taste just as good. Also, make sure you try to get the freshest garlic you can get. If you are using old garlic, it will be less spicy but you may need to add more oil.
In the hand food blender measuring cup, put the following:
🧄3 whole garlic bulbs, peeled & base chopped
🧂1 tsp seasalt
🛢️250ml flavourless oil - You need to use flavourless oil like sunflower or light olive oil/rapeseed oil - anything stronger will overpower taste of Toum.
🍋Juice of 1 fat lemon or 2 small ones to make 75ml
Note: If not lemon juice then you can add 2 level tsp citric acid crystals
🥶2 tbsp ice cold water from fridge
Place the hand food blender/ motor in measuring cup. If your hand food blender has various speeds, just start on low speed then increase it. Or, start on 1 then change to 2.
Blend for 3-5 mins until you get a very thick consistency of mayonnaise/ clotted cream/ Labneh.
If the Toum is too thick, add a little more oil & a tbsp or 2 of ice cold water.
Place Toum in the little cute bowls & share out with willing guests or couples who adore garlic 🧄😮💨😷🥰
