Whenever I saw Rosie Perez dance the Soul Train line, I was afraid the TV screen would crack or melt, she was throwing it so hard. She deserves a whole vid to herself.
Rosie bringing that new school hip-hop flavor around a bunch of old school soul train dancers. Now Rosie's old school, but people nowadays still can't break it down like she did back in the day.
I had to sneak watch soul train. My mother said the women danced to nasty with tight outfits. One day my mother caught me. Anyway, a few other family and friends was at the house and instead of getting a woopin, we had our own Soul train dance line! I did not know my mom could dance and after seeing her move like she was, I wanted to give HER the woopin! SO MUCH FUN!
It's funny, I remember seeing her but I didn't realize who it was, just "wow, that woman can really move." Her moves are so strong and clean. You can see that same intensity in Janet's videos around this time, too. Madonna as well. Rosie was ahead of the curve, which is probably why she choreographed for In Living Color.
I read Rosie's book a few weeks ago. Was Reallly good but so sad reading about her childhood and her schizophrenic mother. Rosie discussed Soul Train. The fight she had with Don Cornelius was hilarious!🤣
I remember when I saw Rosie on theaters with white man can't jump she was fresh with her character God bless you ma you Rock the theater and the the show s too Amen God bless your famy too Chicago always represents to NYC mad love and respect Rosie P
Wow !! I Remember This All Very Well, I'm Now 65 Years Of Age, Soul Train Was A Very Classic & Creative Black & Multi Ethnic Dance Show Originated By The Creative Genius Of Don Cornelius. So Many Gifted & Talented Dancers On That Show
@@cyyrious I am aware that the soul train dancers got access to a lot of things through the show. My comment was that Don Cornelius should have paid them directly.
@Kim Smith Yes Kim you are correct the dancers did have lots of fun and exposure. also some of the dancers were there of many years.. However, i firmly believe that the dancers should have been paid. The great singers were paid. Therefore, the dancers should have been paid. Without the dancers the show would not have been the fantastic success that it was.
Very happy to see Rosie Perez judging Soul Train night on DWTS right now! Loving her advice too! Don Cornelius son shared his thoughts about it also. Very happy to see him. His dads voice was everything. Yes, I loved American Bandstand but Soulllllll Trainnnnnn was my everything!!

Fun fact: Only five regular Soul Train dancers ever became millionaires from all the dancers that ever appeared on the show over decades. The five are Rosie Perez who is on this video and became later the choreographer for the Fly Girls on the TV show In Living Color while Jennifer Lopez was a dancer there. Then Rosie became an actress. Also, the three members of Shalamar who started out as dancers on Soul Train became millionaires. The fifth was Fred Berry who was with the lock dancing group The Lockers regularly on Soul Train became rich when he was cast as an actor on the TV show What's Happening in the 70s. Whenever I saw Rosie Perez dance the Soul Train line, I was afraid the TV screen would crack or melt, she was throwing it so hard. She deserves a whole vid to herself.
Rosie said she was taking all her anger and frustrations out on the dance floor, one of the better ways of letting of steam in a non dangerous way😁
Apparently Rosie danced like that to be annoying, Don Cornelius didn’t like the way she actually danced so she just danced like a club girl.
she was a fly girl on Living Color too
Susan T Choreographer
@@kimberlyjade4094 no I think it was Rosie Perez that choreographed In Living Color’s Fly Girls, not Susan T.
This is why Rosie’s “Do The Right Thing” dance into is so iconic.

They were paid a lot of them got access to other stuff and led to great things
