Mediocre but in not a total bad way, I mean, it was pretty commom for the PC or DC version to be this way. 60fps, far view distance, higher resolution and sligh increments all around is not a bad experience. Also playing it with the DC triggers is amazing. Of course if you get a master piece like "le mans" there is no way to compare.

Obviosly the Dreamcast is going to take this one, the Dreamcast is a pure arcade machine that beats most PS2 games side by side, they have to try really hard to mess this one up. But this just shows you how amazing the PS1 was considering it came out in the mid 90's.
The Dreamcast version is technically a step above but over-filtered to N64 levels of blur. I guess it's mostly a PS1 game with heavy doses of texture filtering. I prefer the artistic style of the raw Playstation title.
The PS1 version looks pretty cool for what it is. I kinda understand why the developer choose to make the road looks clean here, like a recently paved one, but you know... it's a Rally race. Pilot and machine have to fight against the terrain. The DC version considered the matter, but despite the high frame rate, the textures are awful and the graphics overall are really below of what DC could achieve.
@@chadbrick67 Dreamcast is 32-bit, so who's the dumbass? 128-bit was marketing faff for plebs like you... And over 20 years later you still believe it LOL.
Why would they Call V-Rally 2 a Need for Speed game? I get it being called Test Drive since it was made by Eden Games but coming off of NFS2 and 3 to a rally NFS game just is bizarre.
It's due a Rally mode unlockable at the first 2 NFS games (it's a secret mode), and they thought it would be cool a full fledged game of it. But the game was made by a 3rd party developer and even EA didn't like much the idea but allowed the name of NFS be included. But when it was ported for the DC... well... VCDecide explained all. They ended with Test Drive at the name. From my point of view, just to attract more customers to buy it due the famous name.
Ps1 was a good machine, but honestly, v rally 2 was a good looking ps1 game but a ugly dreamcast game, so if you compare it to sega rally 2 on dreamcast you will also see, that the dreamcast was ahead of its time, same like ps1 was
I had the both versions of the game, and even though the DC version looks vastly superior I would often run into massive frame drops and poor frame pacing. Put me completely off the DC version.
Weird, we spent a lot of time running the game on all the tracks, in one, two, four players, making sure it would be at 60fps even in PAL 60 and on VGA Box. Does that happen on all the levels, with all the cars, in random places, or is that in very specific places?
The controls in Dreamcast version are really bad,and difficulty spike on expert levels is insane.Felt like AI cheating, fast like rockets even though you drive the same car as them
If SEGA had succeeded in its advertising campaign against the giant Sony then the DC would have won hands down: this console was largely ahead of technology when it came out.
Typical of the latest PS1 games, fairly dirty graphics hidden by uninteresting graphic effects but successful 3D modeling, at least for the cars. The Dreamcast version is disappointing, Sega Rally 2 although having a lot of technical problems is graphically more impressive while it is older ....

@@mrjohnnyk Nah. 20/20 vision and 16 years of experience in the gaming industry right here *MATE.* I can simply, and thoroughly appreciate the fact that the performance of a 32-bit system is being compared to a 128-bit system and still managing to look as good as it does. In a professional comparison something like this is never done unless the "weaker" content/object being compared is of considerable strength. We're talking about a separation of two whole generations and a lifespan from 1994 - 2006. 12 years for the original PlayStation, versus only 3 years (1998 - 2001) for the Sega Dreamcast. You can't comprehend just how bad that is, especially for people in the gaming industry and the fact that one of those is the better one as a 32-Bit console, and the one that only lasted 3 years was two whole generations ahead in hardware. So no, I don't need to get my eyes checked when my observations are coming from a far deeper understanding of console technology than you can even grasp. I know this because you think my comment stems purely from a visual standpoint, when in reality there's a lot more going on in this video, and my comment than you realize. You say I need to get my eyes checked, and I say you need a reality check, junior.
Having just played both myself 5 mins ago the psone has much better dust effects, better handling. The Dreamcast is higher res and better graphics overall but the handling and weird break glitch that revs the crap out of the engine damn near kills it. PSOne version for me.
I own both versions and the PS1 version is superior. Dreamcast has sharper graphics but the frame rate is inconsistent. Also the car handling is better on the PS1. Cars have a frustrating tendency to flip over in the Dreamcast version not so on the PS1. Nevertheless it’s a great game no matter the system you play it on. Considering the dearth of good affordable games on the platform, every Dreamcast owner should have this in their collection.
Wow. I...I actually prefer the PS1 version, here. On the DC the car seems to float (the shadow isn't dark enough) and the mipmapping makes the car look blurry.

Best rally game on ps1 and Dreamcast
Strangely enough, I dig the PS1 version so much more. 🤔 The same test on a CRT TV would reveal something interesting I think.
It's hard to complain about the DC textures when the PS1 version barely has any.
@@mrjohnnyk Why are u saying that? The textures on PS1 version looks spot on.
Even though this game looks awful by DC standards it still looks better and runs smoother than the PS version.
Ummm 32 bit console vs 128 bit console what do you expect mr dumb ass. Absolutely ridiculous to compare these 2 consoles
@@chadbrick67 Well then what was the point of this video?
@Doktor Hachi Roku the molecule of the angle of vector x4 blah blah what a fucking wanker you are
@@chadbrick67 Dreamcast is 32-bit, so who's the dumbass? 128-bit was marketing faff for plebs like you... And over 20 years later you still believe it LOL.
Dreamcast is 60fps with better texture filtering
Ya don't say? Well it should considering the hardware it's running on is a full generation apart from the PS1.
@@phoenix75888 why are you replying so aggressively? I was stating a fact. Calm down
PlayStation looks better though. It has character.
@@JB_inks no aggression what so ever. I also stated a fact. Don't make this out to be something it's not.
@@phoenix75888 Dreamcast is better, relax!
@@dlib89 EA didn't publish any games on the Dreamcast. So they went with the Test Drive name on DC.
@@SalivatingSteve I meant the PSX when mentioning EA allowed.
Ps1 was a good machine, but honestly, v rally 2 was a good looking ps1 game but a ugly dreamcast game, so if you compare it to sega rally 2 on dreamcast you will also see, that the dreamcast was ahead of its time, same like ps1 was
Yeah this is a bad example of a DC game but a good example of what the jump from PS1 to DC was like.
The controls in Dreamcast version are really bad,and difficulty spike on expert levels is insane.Felt like AI cheating, fast like rockets even though you drive the same car as them
Ótimos vídeos continue assim
If SEGA had succeeded in its advertising campaign against the giant Sony then the DC would have won hands down: this console was largely ahead of technology when it came out.
I like PlayStation graphics more than Dreamcast gfx. And im not the only one.
There's bound to be a small number of people with strange objectively wrong opinions so of course you're not the only one.
Eu tinha me esquecido desse jogo.
Ps win
The intro, is "hand down" better on PsX 😮
idk what to say, Ps1 and Sega satrun have very similiar performance, but if you compare with the dreamcast that is newer, the dreamcast wins
i remember back in the day crashing into opponent or tip them over at junctions all the time lol
The dream cast is better but I just love the crispness of the ps1
Passei muitas horas no meu Dreamcast jogando esse game. Esse é um Rally de verdade.
On DC, they forgot to implement the houses aside of the road :-(
Track ( Indonesia ) ???
Dreamcast all way
Always nice to see PlayStation still out perform the competition even when it's 32-bit vs 128.
Lol. Really ?
@@tomianz-1242 Lol. REALLY!
You need to get your eyes checked m8.
Muito bom teu canal.
On the DC the car seems to float (the shadow isn't dark enough) and the mipmapping makes the car look blurry.
isnt dreamcast a 6th gen hardware?
