This video is titled Checking the Fluid. And That can be done from the top. Just draining the fluid really isnt the way to go anyway. There's a filter inside the cover, plus another quart and a half of dirty fluid throughout the insides of the transmission. And if the filter is clogged with clutch particles all through it, then just adding new fluid wont just magically clean it out BUT, low fluid WILL cause a transmission to slip, and you can at least check it, from the top to see if that may be the problem.
@@itizme8072 You have the same problem as the guy who made the video. This car and transmission is no for 2010, but 2011 and up. @@itizme8072can you plz explain the proper way of checking the fluid level from the top ? My gear is slipping only when i start from idle and i’m thinking its fluid level problem
I appreciate the informative video very much! I was losing my mind looking for the dipstick. Also though, what the heck was 5:40 Hyundai thinking? This is not a simple fluid check... it takes much longer than checking my Chevy, my Toyota or my Nissan.
Did you already remove the drain plug and drain the pan, prior to adding that gallon? When you said 3 qts came out, was that from that drain plug that needs to drip when full, and prior to adding that new fluid?
This video is a great example of how to trash something even further then it already is. There's oil and fluids all over the place. It doesn't show the drain plug on the bottom, and cleaning all the particulate matter and clutch material off. The trans holds way more than a gallon. A partial drain and refill is better then nothing but, If you don't do it right you're gonna do more damage then if you just left it alone. Plus, you have to run it through the gears to fully load the valve body and all the clutch discs. Very poor quality. At least he didn't show broken parts like other videos trying to show the same thing. a good 5 min education. Thank you. Jim
He showed how to check and add fluid, that’s all I needed. A drain and fill does no damage to the transmission. Get a life and quit complaining about people trying to help you.
thanks for the video. I own a 2018 elantra, it only has 41k on it but the clutch is already starting to slip/ not want to shift. have only owned 2 months. hopefully this will fix my problems
Great video got my answer but probably should’ve showed everyone the drain plug as well if they are gonna try and use your video to do it themselves but still very helpful and answered some questions no one else was talking about that I needed
the drain is easy to find. even the fill hole was easy to find once i realized it didnt have a dip stick. this is like the 10th video ive seen trying to find how to verify you have the proper amount, but all they did was put in what came out. this is the only one that shows me what actually matters. that front plug to set the fluid proper. every transmission that doesnt have a dip stick has something like that but on toyota they stick it out by the tire, i couldnt find this one. thankfully this video showed me what i was looking for
@@leanusher948most pol don't realize the drain is facing towards the front of the car and it vertical not on the bottom of the pan like most cars. The trans pan is vertical on these Hyundais
So I need some advice here on my 2011 Elantra . While changing my cv axle seal the transmission could leak out . Now am trying to put in da new seal . Am hoping it can be flush in . Once I do this . How do I replace the fluid n know how much to put back in new .? Do I need to have the CV AXLE OUT BACK IN PLACE BEFORE I PURE FLUID BACK IN
so turning the car on with no fliud in the transmission doesn't hurt it? I guess transmission is only affected whenyou are shifting the gear level so makes sense.
Drain, fill, start then see if drain check level plug drain, if not add more until drain. the drain must be small and consistent, then close valve plug and that is.
OK so there is ACTUALLY TWO (2) Fill plugs that I see people using! One is under the Air Box (after removal) and this plastic plug is actually the "VENT" for the transmission CORRECT? The factory "FILL HOLE" is towards the rear and a metal 24MM plug like the 24MM metal drain plug -- CORRECT? Does the Manufacturer (or dealer) use the VENT PLUG or the METAL FILL PLUG Location to add fluid? That is my question!
Thanks. You make me "change my mind" on buying this nightmare.. I owned an IZUSU Axxiom sealed transmission..just the same horror. I cannot say thanks to you, when it comes to understand your instructions..another horror...
When refilling the transmission you should start the car, and put it in park or you can put the transmission in neutral, either way is ok when refilling the transmission. I personally, because it's my choice, put my 2012 Elantra in neutral when I am refilling the ATF.
You can have your car running while refilling your transmission it is okay because the transmission is no engaged until you move through a gear... HOWEVER, the person that said he put his in neutral I would caution you on doing so because you are shifting through the reverse gear. If your foot happens to slip it will cause damage to the transmission
yeah engine running is fine to fill the transmission, just dont drive with a dry transmission. you need it running to go through the gears, and you go through the gears to make sure the fluid gets spread out where it needs to. plus almost every transmission is supposed to be filled at operating temp, so engine running helps that out
Transmission fluid expands when hot. You failed to bring the fluid up to proper temperature BEFORE determining if you added and had the correct fluid level.
Drian plug is on the very bottom DO not remember the size it was either a 19MM 22MM or 24MM take all 3 with you sorry I don't remember have not changed my ATF in about 2 months
NEVER PUT 7 QUARTS IN! unless the transmission is completely empty... The WHOLE transmission holds 7.06 quarts according to the hyundai service manual... about 2.5 quarts of that stays in the torque converter when you do a drain n fill... Typically a little will stay in the differential area of the transmission as well meaning It should NEVER take 7 quarts 5 quarts max
There is a bolt on the bottom you didn't show and you drain the fluid tru there. The one you showed and said you turn it 180 degrees that is your fill plug. Lol Otherwise good video

Tip. Only 3 10 mil bolts and a hose clamp to take the air cleaner assembly out. Do it all from the top. Lots of room.
how are you going to get the fluid out from on top though?

Thanks bro, I was looking all over for the dip stick until I watched your video
Most engineers now just assume the owner of the vehicle is the dipstick. 😂

Great video it kinda make me want to do it myself other than goin to the dealer. They are charging $300 something and it's that simple.
just jack up the car and do it. This is a super easy job. I would maybe consider it if they do it for 100 but 300 sounds insane!
drain and refill. wherever comes out, just put it in. is just simple. people make it complicated.

Warranty should cover transmission replacement, I recommend you to bring it to Hyundai dealer before you try anything.
@@edwinantonio3787 I thought about that as I was buying fluid and put it back. think they will fix it even if its not too badly damaged?

Do you check the fluid level while the car is running in park or turned off?
must be running
This video also did not show where the drain plug is and how you drained it that is just the inspection fill port
How did you drain?
Drain plug is directly underneath the transmission
the drain is always lowest part, the bottom.

Let a professional do this. I think that's what Hyundai's intention was by putting the transmission fluid refill in an almost hidden place.
