  • Fixing into a steel framed and clad building with heavy light fittings is always fun! Matthew shows us how he approaches things using a @SignifyCompany Philips 200W LED floodlight and @steinel PIR 300 degree detector.
We have a helping hand from site supervisor Bruno! He is a keen and dedicated team member.
Installing outdoor security lighting is bread and butter work electricians and we are no different. Least it didnt rain!
I hope you enjoyed the content in 2023 and if so please dont forget to subscribe!
Massive thanks to my team at Power Sonic Ltd for a very successful and rewarding year. You all smashed it. Even Bruno.
To those following along and supporting Apprentice 121, thank you!
    Have a great Christmas!

Bruno looks to be a very good boy, and excellent safety inspector.
One issue I have with these new Philips LED products is that their Ultra Efficient range can achieve 210lm/W (Lumens per Watt) but they are still releasing new premium products like this that use almost twice the power, for the same light output at 120lm/W. Your 21000 Lumen Floodlight could use just 100W instead of 200W.
It's a waste of electricity and the lower power options run cooler and last longer. A more cynical person might think they are producing these more inefficient luminaries because they don't last as long, which increases sales, and they can produce incremental improvements year on year which makes the marketing easier.

I doubt it Andy. Probs more a cost of production issue. Other variants are available but these were bang on for what we wanted.
Bruno is a stickler for the rules!

Funnily enough I just recently went for the Ledinaire on my barn, just the 30W version but they are a really nice light and are quite cheap for what you get. I like that they use separate LEDs rather than a large COB chip as it makes the light much softer and reduces the glare. I didn't know about asymmetrical vs symmetrical lighting but it looks like Philips only offers you the choice for the 70W+ lights.
The PIR looks like a well-thought-out unit but is a bit pricy. I can see how the extra features fit your usage really well though.

Yes it’s not a PIR we would be using on a domestic setting. But commercial with such a wide field of view can help achieve really nice solutions.
I got it as when we are running night classes I can use the remote to ramp up the sensitivity and pick people up all over the yard when the neighbours have closed for the day. Taking over the car park lol. Then set it back to normal on leaving.
      Thanks!

    £144 for PIR.

You can get lower cost ones but start losing features, performance and adaptability. Value is more than the sale price. Applies to so many things and those who never see beyond it miss a trick imho
