I don't think people understand that space is terrifying in it's own nature and is the most dangerous frontier mankind will ever endure. It has answers, secrets and mystery. It can also kill us all.

To quote Q from Star Trek:
"If you can't take a little bloody nose, maybe you should go back home and crawl under your bed. It's not safe out here. It's wonderous. With treasures to satiate desires, both subtle and gross. But it's not for the timid..."
Space is grand. Vast beyond imagination. Infinite. Wonderous... Mysterious....unknown....dark....and unforgiving....uncaring....but rewarding beyond anything else...

That's what I've been looking for! Not candy-like space ambient sounds and stars vomiting rainbows, but cold, dark void of space when your company in endless roam is only dark matter. But "The Void" is little bit darker. :-)

There was a black metal compilation i was listening to called "Cosmic Black Metal" that was exactly like that.
Not synthy and high tech fancy and happy sounding.
But cold...dark....scary....vast...bleak... dangerous, and unforgiving... *Exactly* the way space really is.
Sadly the compilation disappeared a few months ago. But my god it was beautiful.

"Uh, Earth? Are you guys there? I'm Tristain T. from Bravo Station. We've managed to salvage the radio equipment, we need to get the hell out of this ship. We've drifted into.. uh, no where after our engines failed. We've been running out of basic commodities and supplies, and we swear there's something that isn't human on this ship. We've been seeing claw marks on the walls ever since we drifted towards some sort of red star, and people are dying at an alarming rate. The core is set to overheat in a few days, however long that is, because something ripped the fans out of the core room, and we know it probably doesn't have a hazmat suit. The station is pretty small, so it's strange that we haven't seen anything yet. No one really knows where Andrew went, but we're pretty sure that the... thing got him. We've sent out a help signal, so you should probably be able to track us on your radar, so please, just get us out of here."

This is what I love. I don't want "magical" ambience or "soothing" ambience. Space is a dark, cold, and unforgiving place, that will not take kindly to any biological forms. One slip up. One mistake. That's all it takes for the cold void to rip your life from the mortal coil. Space is not soothing, and it never was. Not to me, atleast. Space is deeply humbling.

I respect safety for the individual as much as the next guy. But if space exploration is to become an aspect of what we do as a society, we need to re-learn that the unknown is *dangerous.*
And we need to _accept_ that danger.
That the individual's actions have consequences. Sometimes those consequences cost lives. And that sometimes that individuals choices are the only thing to which one can point the blame when things go wrong.
Sometimes, shit happens. People can get hurt, or even killed. That is the reality of the frontier.
We have been without a frontier for far too long. It's time we rose to a new one.

    • @TheTruthIsGonnaHurt

Sadly Gen Z, seem perfectly content taking selfies and watching other people live life from the comfort of their mom's basement.
Hopefully, the Billionaires will continue to push the boundaries of space and pave the way. I don't care if space colonies are run by evil greedy corporations, whatever it takes for us to break into this new frontier and get humanity off this world will be considered a necessary evil. Humanity can not afford to remain stagnant in a giant shooting gallery.

You wake in an agony of resurrection, gasping after a record-shattering bout of sleep apnea spanning one hundred forty days. You can feel your blood, syrupy with dobutamine and leuenkephalin, forcing its way through arteries shriveled by months on standby. The body inflates in painful increments: blood vessels dilate; flesh peels apart from flesh; ribs crack in your ears with sudden unaccustomed flexion. Your joints have seized up through disuse. You're a stick-man, frozen in some perverse rigor vitae.
