I read all the terminals that logged a smarter mutant that locked "Grun" in the basement and used it as a distraction to escape. I found that door, and unlocked the terminal, preparing myself to fight some Super Mutant leader, like other dungeons have.
You see, as Fallout 4 is my first Fallout game, I am unfamiliar with lore. And you can imagine how quickly I reclosed the door when I saw that Grun was a Behemoth.

@@subjectdelta17 yup didn't the Master fiddle with the F.E.V and somewhat stabilized it. I remember also he improved on the deathclaw design.
The reason why some mutants are smart is because they had "untainted blood" due to living in the vaults that had not been exposed to the airborne strain and radiation that had leaked when the bombs fell .
As it's later stated most life had been exposed to it so it wasn't compatible . So thus project purity is dangerous with the enclave wanting to kill any "muties". As everyone is exposed to the airborne strain.
Then you have Boston and west Virginia mutants which are Failed F.E.V mutants explaining the deformations and very few rational mutants aside from Graham,Strong and the one from far harbor

From what I can tell, there aren't any behemoths on the western USgames, like Fallouts 1, 2 and New Vegas, since the mutants there were created by The Master, who specifically used non-irradiated humans or at the very least minimally irradiated humans when turning them into super mutants. Vault 87's mutants just grab any random person off the streets they can to make more mutants, the very slight mutations of these irradiated humans making them less compatible with FEV. This also means that their bodies are more unstable compared to west coast mutants so along with the lower intelligence, they experience a constant growth cycle.

This isn't correct. He TRIED to use non-irradiated humans, but failed to do so in most cases besides his lieutenant. If you remember, they were kidnapping humans fron caravans in the wasteland (whom were irradiated). That's why he wants the location of vault 13 in fallout 1; to get access to non-irradiated humans.
The west coast mutants also experience a constant growth cycle and do not die from age.

    • @CabiriousPlus
      @CabiriousPlus 9 месяцев назад +1

Hello! I have no idea if you ever found these answers but I have a few of them. Before the end of the great war, America was dealing with The New Plague, and multiple different sources radiation, either from weapons, or technology they were using to fight the Chinese. Scientist began working on a potential fix for both of these problems chemically by making soldiers that were naturally resistant to all diseases, radiation, and injuries. FEV quickly gained progress as the government at the time had lucrative contracts with multiple companies dedicated to chemistry and weapons technology at this time. Before they could roll it out to all soldiers they needed to test it. Which is where we find out first strain, at the mariposa military base. A trader(The Master), Harold, and a buddy went to investigate where all these massive, angry mutant were coming from at this base when the master fell in to the green stuff with harold, but harold only splashed by fev turning into a super ghoul. The master was LEFT in the fev because no one had fished him out turning him into pure brain, and biomass that could interface and absorb anything that runs off of radiated energy. Crawling out of the vat like a centuar he bound himself to the bases supercomputer and began Unity for all mutants. This is why you have talking intelligent mutants, and the nightkin. With the master psionic link with all his mutants, he was able to amplify and monitor all of his subordinates to find more perfect humans from vaults for his plans. Exposing humans to radiation then dipping them causes problems. Humans that's have never irridated make highly intelligent, stabilized mutants like Marcus. And exposing supermutants to stealth boys for a long time, turns them into nightkin. After the master was overthrown due to self destruction after finding out all super mutants are sterile, and once he's out of FEV it was only a matter of time before human snuff out the last of his armies, said armies began to spread out and find lives of their own. Meansunofabish, lily, and Marcus were all these stabilized, intelligent mutants that will not go behemoth, or randomly lose their minds. Well call them west coast.
NOW remember that FEV was prewar virus? So Mariposa wasn't the only place to have it. The had it in vault 87, Some where in the commonwealth, and in Huntersville west tek facilities in west Virginia. These strains were developed under duress as they were all made in vaults or government bunkers like the institute after the bombs dropped. So why is 87 the odd man out? It's because the lack of leadership. The subjects at 87 were never meant to perpetuate. After someone had died to do brain function deteriorating until it ceased. They shutter the program and kept the mutants in containment. These guys had a special muscle growth variant called the EEP variant, so they're stupid, bigger, yellow green, and can go behemoth. These juiced up imbeciles knew only three things. Fight, survive, and green stuff makes more muties. They overpowered the security staff, and the children fled into the caves. Becoming little lamp light. Mungos have to leave because once you are 16, you become desirable to the demons (super mutants). The muties in 87 learned everything they know from trial and error, and the fact that constantly dip everyone and only prefer healthy strong humans because they're the mostly to survive the dip for 24 hours. They're dumb, aggressive, and only worked together because of their common goal of being "better" than humans at winning fights. This is why in fallout 3 they seem like a horde of orcs from fantasy game. There's a peaceful muntant named Uncle Leo who explains that these specific super mutants are only interested In a lowest common denominator answer. Violence. This is only speculation, but I think the institute must've found the research files for this strain of the virus and altered it with their experiments with wastelands and people they were punishing like swan. From what I remember swan was just a dude with a conscious so they gave him a shot with FEV and sat him next to a heavily irradiated pond to see what would happen. He behemothed. The Huntersville strain isn't anything other then an asset reused from a previous game with some hand wavy explanation. The Enclave trying to use anything to cure the scorched Plague, blah blah blah. Super mutants resist fallout but not nukes so we don't seem them or the scorched yap yap yap. Stuff like that.
      TL:DR=
West cost mutants were byproducts of the previous governments super soldier program. Their code was stabilized and tailored to the human genome for mostly benefits, the only drawback being infertility.
East coast mutants are made by the wastelands CURRENT government(s) by just dipping the best people they can find into vats of green stuff they came across while I assume mustache twirling and stealing candy from babies. Because of how cartoonishly evil villains are in fallout.

@@CabiriousPlusokay I get it so basically smarter healthier people who've never been exposed to radiation make the smarter mutants and the color difference with the green and yellow is due to the green ones having essentially a lesser advanced strain of FEV
As far as swan goes he was an institute scientist if you search the area around his pond you can find all his journal logs where he describes basically being tricked into turning into a mutant If I remember correctly he was given a shot of FEV and lied to about what it was but eventually figured it out when he started noticing the changes

I’d love to see one in the show. Doesn’t even have to be up close. Just Cooper talking mad game about how radiation is nothing to him, so he just strolls into a highly irradiated zone. Then, in the distance, he spots the big ass behemoth just chucking cars around trying to kill mole rats. Cut to him walking right out past Lucy without saying a word

For anyone wondering why marcus and lilly aren't behemoths considering thier over a hundred years old its because the master modified the marsposa FEV instead of using the original one which the original formula is what vault tech, west tech and the institute based theirs on thus all east coast mutants reach max behemoth size in 25 years ish

Lots of calories and lots of rads would be my guess, I’d also suppose some are more likely than others to be able to reach such sizes because of genetics. Rather simple explanation though if you’re looking for a direct in lore reason

Something else to know is that all supermutants may look the same, but are both sexes. The FEV exposure removes all sexually dimorphic traits, and renders them sterile.
