This is definitely a spiritual successor to Metal Slug, obviously. But it still does its own thing and has a distinct style. Very arcade feel to it. Can't wait to see how it pans out.
I'll admit I usually have some doubts about mixing 2D pixel art and 3D, but I'll trust the vision. Watching this project with great interest. Good luck team!
Right? I can't stand those ugly ass clashing HD2D games Squeenix has been shitting out over the past few years but this is gorgeous. Reminds me of some PS1 or Saturn games that did the same thing- primarily 2D but with 3D elements
It's about mixing high and low res 2D and 3D in general. I think low res, "retro" sprites look out of place on high res 3D backgrounds most of the time, same as high res 2D elements and post processing on top of low res sprites or vice versa. For example, the lightning effect at 1:31 in this video looks odd overlaid on top of Jet to me. The game in general looks good though, and I care a lot more that it's fun. (On MS7, I didn't really like the backgrounds. I think the detailed pixel art of the older games looks leagues better.)
One thing that was great about the first MSs, is that there were moments in which you do not have to fight, but just look at npcs talking or enjoy the stage, birds flying or interesting things that not always had to do with the progression of the game. Those moments also made MS great and enjoyable. Attention to detail, funny moments, and hidden animations. I really loved that 💖✨
A few points of critique. It should be possible to balance "bright flashing bullets" with "screen readability". > Since it's going for the HD-2D look, maybe do dropshadows and lighting effects whenever the handgun is fired, adjustable according to each level? The gun should at least flash when the button is pressed, not necessarily when the bullet hits a (soft) target. If the enemy is hard though, there should be a glowing effect. It seems like this was implemented well with the enemies, though. > During heavy explosions and smoke, allow a silhouette of the character to appear for readability. > Walk cycle sprites should remain separated from shooting body parts, like MS. Landing transition looks a little off, lacks turn-around sprites. > Speaking of walk cycle, the player sprite lacks a natural bobbing motion when moving. > Hitstop/slowdown when destroying large objects/mecha? > Defined foreground elements might be necessary due to the nature of 3D. > Hitflash should be a brighter color. > Missing screen shake for large explosions. > Bullet speed seems a little too fast...? > Need to see more in terms of enemy ambushes. Also, I want to see more creative death animations like MS3. This is actually completely optional, but some of you know how necessary this element actually is.

Honestly you had me the moment it gave the weapon announcement sound effect and when the giant robot gorilla appeared. Whenever this comes out consider it already bought.
i'm loving the mix of 2D ad 3D, it reminds me of a very specific moment in the arcade industry, like when some fighting games had 2D player sprites in a 3D stage, very nostalgic!

Xenogears or Wild Arms 2 are other good examples ! Low poly colorful 3D with 2D sprites looks awesome ! Add some nice CRT filter to it and we are good to go !
The art direction is amazing, you guys have a clear and distinct vision. I feel a huge appreciation for 90s action anime in the scenes shared. I'm hoping for some co-op options whether local or online. There were already critiques and suggestions on the game's graphics and I hope those are taken seriously, lighting will really make or break audience's attention spans while viewing. One final suggestion I have is for bosses weaknesses being represented (or highlighted) in some way throughout fights. In the trailer I couldn't always tell where the player should focus their fire since the enemy is further in the background. The jumping animation has a nice "float-like" feel to it, but with how fast-paced the game appears I do wonder if it needs further refinement. All in all this project is what people have been begging for, for years! I wish your team the best of luck!

How did I not know of this until now?! I am a huge fan of the Metal Slug games. In fact, I consider my purchase of Metal Slug 3, in 2000, for my AES, to be the last incredible action shooter that I bought! I am looking very forward to this. Excellent video, a truly inspired title both artistically and on the gameplay side (while borrowing the style of Metal Slug), so I am absolutely confident in this title. I'll just make a couple of criticisms which I hope are constructive. At 0:24 the smoke from the explosion appears which completely hides the character, furthermore every time the character jumps the camera moves and both of the things I mentioned can "hide" the actions of the enemies and a "skill based" title like in a run 'n' gun it is essential that the game action is always totally visible. For the rest, I sincerely hope that there will be a two-player mode (with the possibility of entering a game already started like in Metal Slug), the death continues like in Metal Slug and the publication on preferably all the consoles present and also in Arcade via Exa -Arcadia (or Arcade platforms in general) given that there is a strong lack of run'n'guns in current arcades. I know I've written a lot, but it's the kind of game I've been waiting for for years and I want the best.

As a Korean fan of Metal Slug, I hope many things will be added. 1. Can you guys add the system introduced since Metal Slug 6? (e.g., weapons change system that can acquire and discard up to two weapons) 2. The Balance of 2D dots and 3D graphics should be improved. Especially in the boss battle from the trailer. 3. Please speed up the movement of the main character. It's too slow for me. I've been waiting for a New Run & Gun Game since Metal Slug XX and thank you for making the game.

A 2D run and gunner that takes HEAVY visual and game play influence from Metal Slug with a main character that looks like a detective noir version of 004 from Cyborg 009. How am I just now learning about this, this definitely my kind of game.
I really loved the trailer! I can't really wait for the game to come out! One thing I would like to suggest is to improve the jump and the direction change during it. I think it needs to be more reactive.

As a Metal Slug fan, I'm really looking forward to this 🤩, it would be great if the game ends up being less "arcady" than MS , like having a health bar / with a way to reagain health or a life , the ablity to reload using ammo found on dead ennemies for example , something between MS and Mercenary Kings would be awsome 😎👌

This is wonderful, they earned my full attention for this project, the combination of 2D with 3D is wonderful, everything is full of charisma and artistic details that are worth highlighting. Opinions- The protagonist's sprites are fantastic, although with the main weapon I notice him with a fearful rather than careful posture. When he gets the heavy machine gun the bullets overlap each other and I admit he looks a bit flooded. And as a personal wish I would like to see more than just two characters, 4 like the old school arcade ones would be fantastic. more with the personality they have been managing, which is a lot! Outside of those details, everything else seen is simply wonderful. A lot of support!

Capcom did this with Strider on the PS1. It was beautiful. Same with games like Grandia on PS1.
