This game is currently in development by Division 六, a long term Metal Slug modder and custom sprite creator. The game aims to implement features that were in the original Metal Slug prototype (and were dropped), such as the way the hostages follow you and fight by your side.
@@AntipaladinPedigri That's one specific character, Hyakutaro Ichimonji, who disguises himself as POW. Once found, he, well... follows you around, fighting with Dragon Ballesque energy blasts. For one life or one area, whichever ends first. He first showed up in Metal Slug 2.
Wow, this is surprisingly super faithful to Metal Slug. They didn't even cheap out on the animations, they literally hand drew everything. I respect that.
SNK have always been legendary with its sprite artwork and animations. I fell in love with metal slug at Metal Slug X then beyond. Fan made games meeting that quality with original ideas and story? Oh yes please.
Absolutely agree with you. I've been dying for a Metal Slug fan game that matches exactly with it's pixel art style (and the story too to some extent) for a good long time now. There's just something special about them compared to most other sprite art games i've seen. Maybe because it's mainly my childhood but ehh, who cares.
Metal Slug series has one of the most of the satisfying pixel art animation with the mix of gorgeous backgrounds and ensued chaos of war and bloodshed in terms of gameplay. For a fan game, this is very spot-on, except what's missing is the blood.
This looks, sounds, and feels so much like a Metal Slug game whilst also having such a distinct personality of its own. Absolutely phenomenal. I cannot wait to play this.
Thanks for doing a video on my game! Feels surreal after being a subscriber for some time now haha The game is at its earliest stage right now, so except more unique gameplay features, sound design changes and more enemies!
You're welcome! Really love the game. It looks and plays beautifully (that sprite animation is phenonemal). Feels like it could be an official Metal Slug spin-off! Awesome work! :)
@@division8407 hi, why are students killing bandits left and right and how did they even manage to destroy a tank with just bricks and a spear gun (which also has unlimited ammo)?
I just watched this a week ago! I'm surprised to see you guys play this! I've been a MS fan for a long time! So it's cool to see it also rise up to popularity!
A breath fresh air from the new 3d direction snk is going for. They forgot what made metal slug good. The sprite animation and man the music gots that classic metal slug feel to it. good job!!
Like I said on another video, this particular Metal Slug fan-game focuses on enemy harassment instead of brutally killing them. A harpoon shot to the jaw hurts a *LOT* though. As does an oxygen tank to the head. 😆
@@SaviourV oxygen tanks and bricks can be just as fatal if not worse given the possible disfigurement/brain damage. Kill them? No, put them in a wheel chair. Make them breath through a machine. Force their families or the state to fund their medical bills, eat away at their children's college fund. Leave them a shell only able to eat, sleep, and shit. Have their wives look at their broken mangled faces every time they bring the children to see. They say he can hear them when they say "I love you", perhaps he can. Perhaps he's screaming on the inside at how he'll never be the father he wished he had growing up, that his kids won't ever hear him say "I love you too". Then again, perhaps that brick you threw killed his mind and soul, his body nothing more than a meat puppet kept alive by machines while his brain stem is the only thing functioning, not another human or even animalistic thought to ever pass through his hollow vessel. Ask yourself: is that really better than just being fucking dead? Now ask yourself something else: did you do it on purpose :)?
The animations, the color palette, the spot-on style of music, the way the enemies spawn, the backgrounds, the level flow, the overall feeling of this game is mindblowingly perfect. If i hadn't read in the title it was a fan made game, i would have thought this was some kind of metal slug official spinoff. It's simply incredible. Maybe if i really have to pick on something, i'd say the impact of the secondary weapons isn't as satisfying as it was in the original games with the grenades, but i do understand the need and attempt at trying something different. Overall It's just a miracle of a fan project and i can't stress enough how incredibly amazing it looks and feels. Bravo!

Whoa, what an effort! Even the opening cutscene looks fluid as hell. Can't wait finally have special homage to Metal Slug that it needs by now. (Definitely not another mobile games of MS, of course)
This is such great news. The graphic art of metal slug was always beautiful and I missed it ever since. The music, the graphics, the feel everything oozes metal slug. Can't wait for the full release!
Amazing game it is and i tak with the developer regarding Aqua Ippan about the possibility of having a Neo-Geo version of the game in the near future. Also, your video was shared on the Neo-Geo thread on the forums over at AtariAge for others to take notice. Thank you for sharing this with us bro. 8^) Anthony..
The fact that this imitates Metal slug down to a tee it insane metal slug is such a different style from most other games and this has that style is a more E for everyone style (metal slug is a very bloody and Gory game it’s very good but difficult 😮💨) and the characters are more lengthy and tall
Oh my gosh! This is amazing! I have loved metal slug for the longest time and just watching this is WOW!!! I’m so happy that the MS community still thrives today!
Can't get enough of demo! But I respect to the team that they truly make the game this good since demo! I'll just replay a demo over and over. I'll instant-buy this game when it come out.
Holy FUCK does this look great! When I was younger I had an old Metal Slug cabinet I played the hell out of. Needless to say, this looks and feels so much like it despite being its own thing. I *really* hope it comes to fruition, this is exciting.
The motion of loading and firing rifle grenades like Swiss Army infantry in the 1970s or Japanese Ground Self-Defence Force infantry is very impressive.
Metal Slug without the pixel art sprites is just not the same. When it came out and 3D games were starting to take over the market, it looked so distinct, and so beautiful, that it survived across generations and technological changes. The original Metal Slug games still hold up. It's one of those timeless classics. No surprise that a game inspired by its style and gameplay looks so good.
That grapple shot at the beginning was * wild * and I think that's what was bouncing off everyone that got hit later on, but only cause you took down a ground to air missile launcher with bricks.😂
I'm a big fan of Metal Slug, and while I can see the inspiration, I really hope it begins to embrace its own identity. At the moment, it feels like it's trying to /be/ Metal Slug, and it's weaker as a result of this. Enemies death animation seem to play at random, causing them to fly in wildly inappropriate directions based on how they died. The gameplay is also terse and slow, I counted like, a total of two times the enemies actually shot back, discounting the bullet sponge mini bosses. The bullets the main character fires is weirdly arrow shaped, the explosions feel really weak, especially since it's supposed to kill you, and the background is incredibly static. There's dozens of these little details that Metal Slug has that add up to create a truly interesting and action packed experience that this simply lacks. If it wants to be a more grittier version of Metal Slug, then let the creative direction approach that. If it wants to be another Metal Slug, then it /has/ to do everything Metal Slug did, at the very least. Given that this is in development, I do hope that the developers are reading this, and take it in stride. I sincerely hope that this project of yours is successful.
Thanks for the very well thought-out comments! I can definitely understand your point of view that, as of now, the game is a lesser Metal Slug. Despite the first stage playing like a regular MS mission, my main objective is to later add unique gameplay features and setpieces different to MS to make it truly stand out from its inspiration. While I love the MS games, I am aware making a straight up copy of their games wouldn't work since I don't have the same kind of creative spirit and replicating 1:1 what they did wouldn't be right. And for that, my goal is to try and take the basic formula of MS1 and make it go in another creative direction. The demo can only go so far to show the game's potential, so thanks for the early words of encouragement! Me and my peers will do our best for the rest of the development. 👌
The art style would easily make those Irem guys proud, it's as faithful as it can be. Still, I got to ask: Did the creator get some kind of license from SNK to do this. As we all know with fan games, IP holders can cancel it at a moment's notice by citing copyright infringement (a lot of the sound effects are directly taken from the series), even though we all know they're probably just sore at the idea of a fan-made game upstaging them, especially when they haven't done anything with it in recent years. There's nothing worst than having all that work go down the drain, and the IP holder is not even apologetic for it.
What did SNK do? I know that some member of the House of Saud owns part of the company. KOF XV looks nice and at least they're finally acknowledging Fatal Fury outside of pachislot and mobile games.
Looks amazing, though I'm wondering if the scuba diver angle for the main characters will be put into play for something cool, because it makes them seem pretty lame in comparison to the soldiers they're fighting...

Nothing can match the awesome quality of hand drawn graphics.
too bad they have abandoned sprites for crap off 3d games
I'm pretty sure the team behind Metal Slug came from Irem. You can see the visual style in other older Irem's game.
Some of the original Metal Slug team, including the pixel artist, are working on a new game called Black Finger Jet too
Metal Slug series has one of the most of the satisfying pixel art animation with the mix of gorgeous backgrounds and ensued chaos of war and bloodshed in terms of gameplay. For a fan game, this is very spot-on, except what's missing is the blood.
Agreed. I guess they decided to play it safe and not include blood in the game.

The fact that from granades you have oxytanks and bricks reminds me of the fact one of the metal slug games had stones as granades.
And the player character is armed with a dart gun instead of an actual pistol.
