Everyone is free to use the tools they want.
The problem with AI is not that it exists or that it takes the art from others. It's that people claim AI as their own art and try to use it in a laboral way, trying to find every single possible excuse to avoid paying artists or recognozing the work they do.

As an *ahem* Practitioner of Magic, this really speaks to me on many levels, from the curiosity in learning something exciting, to the mentors both sweet and stern, and the pride in process of making something novel, even if that process sadly may be reduced to a repeatable routine. I've come to learn that ar- err, magic, is such an enjoyable experience not just because of the end result, but all the steps leading up to it. I didn't learn that lesson while I was learning the techniques and I doubt I'll be around if any robot can learn it as well. Anyhoo, this was a delight to watch, and many thanks to Geeky, Heayn, Raygirl, Ikke, Rye, and Nebula for lending their vocal talents and to Mark for all of the everything that made this possible! (especially the pancake, I bet it was delicious)

Man, this cartoon about a cat witch and some blue thing doing magic together is so cute. I love how i can escape into this urban fantastical world and not be reminded of very serious current issues. (But seriously great work!)
like how the robot could replicate everything of the recipe perfectly except for El's and Sam's personal touches (coloring the potion blue by just adding color to it, and dumping random flowers instead of just daisys), implying it can't replicate the feelings we put into making an artpiece

Well yeah. At the moment gen AI is just a somewhat clever tool that gets inputs from humans, not an independent conscious actor.
the thing is we misuse ai for what they actually useful: automating thing we do but slower and a bit inefficient ai can do that but faster and more efficient instead of art because might as well develop real super ai to begin with if you want ai generated art in the first place
@@unknowngod8221 I kinda agree that many of us misuse AI, but for a different reason, i feel like artists should use AI art as a base of inspiration, if they have an idea and they want to visualize it before they draw it, they could probably hop on an AI art program and jot down some prompts, when they find a result that they like and is closest to their vision, they could put it in their reference pile with other references they've gathered and then draw what they want, in short, we should treat it as a TOOL, not the CANVAS.... Plus, goofing around with those programs can be a good time killer lol.

WOW, THAT WAS ABSOLUTELY STELLAR!
From the very first shot to the very last I was delighted through and through by this entire short.
The backgrounds are freaking beautiful my guy, I can't get over how wonderful they look and the way you use color to set different moods almost makes the backgrounds feel like extensions of the characters, like everything is perfectly in sync here.
And may I just say I LOVED all of the little background visual gags with Ghooost, lil guy is just as much of a homicidal delight as he's always been. XD
Also everybody who lent their voices to this project did such a fantastic job, like the line delivery here is REALLY good and all of the voices suit their respective characters perfectly!
I wasn't really sure if I was going to like El at first, but between the way you wrote him and Horrid's performance his character wound up winning me over in the end. XD
It'd probably be an understatement to say I can sympathize with Sam's struggle, the feeling of having your craft taken, warped and distorted in the name of ignorance and greed is a feeling I think almost all of us can relate too now more than ever.
One thing about this short that I really appreciate is how, even if the story doesn't end with rainbows and sunshine as all the bad things being made good again, it still ends on a positive and hopeful note as Sam continues to do what she loves in spite of everything.
No matter how much of a risk it may be to peruse or what obstacles may be set in place to compete with, there will always be "Magic" in the world in the world thanks to the passion that "Witches" have for their craft, and I think that's a wonderfully inspiring and hopeful note to leave off on.
Legit, my take away from this is an incredibly similar what I had after watching Kiki's Delivery Service for the first time and if you know how much that movie means to me then you know that's truely something special.

Ai art is considered theft because it never asks permission from artists that require permission to have their art copied. And, ai art copies real art, with the goal of replacing real artists. Creativity comes from the soul, so that makes ai not creative at all.
Imagine making something, and you're proud of it. You worked hard, spent so much time on it, and you show it to the world. People are amazed and are praising you for your amazing skills. "How did you learn all of this?" "Well I spent months perfecting my skill and a ton of hardwork!" They are inspired. You told them that they can use your art as long as they credit you. Starting from that time, you now see your artworks in random profile pics, memes, examples of art teachers, etc. with all of yem crediting you and praising you for your wonderful artworks and inspiring talent.
Now an ai comes in, trains on all your drawings in just 2 days, and goes out to sell "unique" drawings. First of all, you did not allow the ai to use your art. Second, why was the ai trained on you and only on your artstyle? It's to replace you, to pretend to be you. Third, it did not even credit you. Fourth, it's selling artworks that are specifically desihed to replicate your art. Imagine that, giving everyone art for free and just making them credit you, then a program comes in to copy your artstyle 1 for 1, and sell it? Honestly the ai should be giving the art for free, so that's what some ai arts do. But, it's still disrespectful. You poured so much time for your skill and talent, only for it to be taken and replicated by a machine and to profit off of it (by profit, I mean views, likes, comments, attention). Disgraceful, disgusting, awful.

It takes a lot of talent, time, and care to represent such complex themes as art, self-expression, and the modern state of AI art theft in both a narratively subtle and compelling way, while not undermining just how impactful those themes are to those who care about them. Amazing short! I love the almost paper cut-out art style, it feels very reminiscent of an early 2000's cartoon in the best way.

Mark, this was an absolutely fantastic short and I loved every second of it
considering it was a metaphor about artists and their creativity I wanna say that when you made the rayman TV collab back in 2020 you gave me the biggest motivation boost I could ever imagine to get
It was the first big project I was ever a part of and it really aspired me to keep making what I'm passionate about
