If your engine is making the same noise it's likely that you will need to replace both the camshaft and the lifters. In my engine the very end lobe of the camshaft on top of cylinder 4 was worn down by 4mm and it punched a hole on top of the hydraulic lifter underneath
Youve got a hydraulic lifter problwm.. Ive had the aame noise on my 2004 1.9 tdi. Just take off the camshaft and repleace lifters.. You will need new bolts although i got away with reusing camshaft bolts and renewing bolts for diesel injectors.
I have the same issue, sounds exact same. Lots of smoke, no power, bad knock from same place. No codes coming up. Changed injectors, done compression test and camshaft/ valves seem fine!?
I didn't have smoke but the power was down. Are your sure the camshaft is fine? Because before I removed it from the engine I was also sure that it was fine, but when I removed it I saw that about 3mm was missing from one of the lobes. It's common on PD TDIs because the camshaft were made thinner to make space for the lobes that operate the injectors so some wear down quicker. I would recommend checking it again because if it sound exactly the same I would say your need a new camshaft, I was lucky I found a used one on eBay for £60, didn't have a problem after. Yes some black smoke. No Im not sure I will have to take another look at the camshaft after seeing this! I replaced my BLS engine with ASZ last year so it may have had high mileage, I have my BLS camshaft so could replace it with that if need be
Well I have removed the camshaft and it has significant ware - 5-6mm I have replaced it. Do you know how to tighten the pully on the camshaft without it turning in the engine? And thank you for your help!
Hydraulic lifters or worn camshaft lobes would be my guess.
got the same issue. done a lot of research and it seems to be the hydrolic lifters for the valves

Valves dont close properly, hidrolifters are gone, so when explosion happens the gases come back to intake
Open oil filler and check if you still hear same sound if its hapoen the the camshaft gone if not that cloget egr valve.
open the oil filter on running engine???

Mine starts to make this noise after driving hard for an hour. She sounds angry sometimes. I need new lifters

the egr how makes this noise remove the egr and see if the noise goes away

Това ми звучи като пропуск на смукателен клапан 🤔 Прилича ми на изпускане на компресия в смукателния колектор🤔
Check egr for leaks also change them damn engine mounts bruh
