- Howdy! This is a follow up to my door lock repair video set. I've played around with Windows Movie Maker a bit, and compiled all my footage to a single file (no playlist required, yay!).
This video describes the ECU hard reset procedure to follow for a clean idle. After replacing my battery, I had an issue where the engine speed was not calibrated correctly to adjust for the RPM drop when shifting into neutral or braking. As a result, my car was stalling at intersections.
I read up on ECU resets for Subaru Impreza's and the advice from this forum helped tremendously: forums.nasioc.c...
Big shout out to "Uncle Scotty"
Thanks for watching!
Update ECU adjusted! The engine speed no longer drops below the stall threshold! Took about 2 days of normal driving to achieve.
Thank you for this! 9 years later.. It still helps a lot!
Thanks
Hi, thank you for your video!
We successfully used the procedure to reset ECU to solve our problem which was:
The speedometer and rpm counter stopped working completely after we experienced aa discharge of battery and had used a battery start boosterand done a dynamo repair.
Here's what we did:
-Disconnected both battery connections.
-Short circuited the battery cables for 10 seconds.
-Pumped the brake pedal five times
-Reconnected battery pools
The engine was a little difficult to start after the reset, but once started, the speedometer and RPM meter were functioning perfectly.
Hi Chazwozel oiling your air filter will decrease the life of your MAF sensor. A dry paper element filter is probably a better option. I could be wrong but this could be a contributing factor to your idling problem.
It's K&N's Filter Oil, it's actually required per the cleaning procedure of the filter. In short, K&N filters work by capturing particulates in the oil film thereby allowing larger pores on the paper element (thus their increased airflow claim). I don't believe much of it gets into the throttle body if dried properly.
it actually takes around 150kms (93miles) for the ECU to adjust everything for normal driving and highway as well. Also, I'm not sure if your hatchback subie has an IAC valve, my 2005 has it and its kinda dying and has the opposite effect of your car: often when I press the clutch while on low speeds it raised the rpms to 2.500 - 3.000 rpms. Cleaning the IAC and resetting the ECU helps a bit but the sympthom comes again.
Francisco Almeras did you figure out what was going on? I’m having a similar issue
I am going to try this soon. Just put an AGM battery in my car and now 2 of my sparkplugs are acting up. Put new ones in and coils, to no avail. I have an 05 legacy gt, want to see if this will balance things out. Other than background noise, i found the commentary not bad. I enjoy a less scripted content
Did it work?
It worked on my 2016 Forester. Thank you!
You should push all the buttons inside the car for total power lose to reset everything on you ECU that was 5min then drive those normal driving habbit for about 10min for the ECU record it prperly .
try to adjust the screw that connected to the throttle body. this will increase your revs a little.
But HOW do you get the revs DOWN..? Everywhere is explaining how to get them UP, I want the rpms down- HELP*
This did not work on my 2012 Subaru Impreza
You went and had an ice cream sandwich while waiting didn’t you? I see that smirk on your face
love the rumble of your car!
I got this stalling problem to but I have an automatic and have codes p0700 and p1718 please help
Don’t short it out just disconnect the negative and leave your sidelights or interior light on for several hours
The Main ECU is located on the passenger side behind the dashboard, under the airbag. The Body ECU is located on the Drivers side. The fuze panel is where the Body ECU is. Why are y’all missing with the damn battery that really don’t work but ok
Most people who work on thier own cars are not stupid, he talks like we are, get to it and quit talking so much, I want to rest my ECU, not get instructed on how to disconnet a batery
Joshua Green Criticism noted, but this video is intended for someone who rarely pops the hood too, which is why I included battery disconnection. The video is only 15 mintues; not even the length of a TV show.
i have been hacked. my apologies for the comment, im not sure who commented on this video because I have never watched it. again my apologies
@Jimm Crowe неправда.

First off thanks for making a video, second did you ever get it fixed? I just recently replaced my battery and am having same problem and difficulties. Let me know if you can help me out, please and thank you.
my 08 imp has been doin the same thing. is it difficult to clean the throttle body?
holy macakerel it worked!
So. I’m fairly new to the WRX sti world. I have always wanted one.
I purchased a 2011 hatchback. WRX sti
And I really enjoy it.
Ok. So. Here are the symptoms.
I was driving at around 45 mph when the aftermarket radio (I am not the one who installed it) started skipping. Like turning off and on.
And then the car started to die, I clutched and started slowing down, preparing for the worst. The radio started back up and the engine started acting normal. BUT! The radio clock was reset, even the date, the clock on the dash was reset to midnight. And it was 5 in the eve.
I pulled into a gas station and shut everything down. And started back up after about two minutes later.
She ran normally.
My questions are.
1. Has anyone else had a similar issue?
2. If so. What do I need to do for my next step?
Also. Side note. This is funny.
The darndest thing happens with my car. I can’t seem to keep the gas full. It’s always draining, and it drains too fast.... LoL (I enjoy my WRX hatchback I’m not hard on it, I know and enjoy standard, 6-speed)
Good info in the video. it would be better if, in your next video, make sure there's not so much background noise. It's distracting, and makes it harder for some to hear what YOU are saying....
19v should be way to high. I would expect that to cook your battery in less than an hour.
Holly shit!
Hold on so did you disconnect the battery before pressing on the brakes or not?
When you reset your ECU (by unplugging battery for more than 20 seconds) all your sensors get reset... And your learned Fuel Trims get erased. Some cars (Nissan) you might have to do a throttle position relearn. It will drive like crap for a few miles til it learns your throttle body. Most ppl drive around with dirty throttle bodies... Computer adjusts air/fuel to compensate until it learns your throttle body. Toyotas donut rather quickly, some cars it takes a few miles.
How can I reset my EPS'(Electronic Power Steering) ECU,Can u help me ?
Would this kind of reset work for a 2011 sti??
Must your A/c be on when doing the reset? How does the a/c affect it?
+Nathan Timaitre Nope.
Time stamp for the ECU reset and not the air filter?
How do i fix the er hc code im stumped
this method fix a little vibration when i stooped in traffic light ? , is a subaru legacy 1994 automatic ( the vibration coming when in D , and in P or N no more vibration , only on D , R 1 2 and 3 )
It might. I would suggest cleaning out your throttle body. There are a number of things that could be causing a noticeable vibration though - not limited to engine knock.
So my 06 legacy gt engine check light came on with cruise control light flashing, also it hesitates to start I have to crack it 2 times for the car to start, and when I barely step in the gas it just wants to stall. All that goes away after its all warm up it drives normal but when I turn off the engine and start it back up all the problems come right back.
Sounds like a faulty fuse (related to cruise control?) I'd replace some fuses and maybe get a new battery (since it sounds like your battery is old and struggling. With a new battery if you're seeing these issues, I'd say your starter might be on the fritz. Cost saving approach -> fuses first --> new battery ---> new starter.
Chazwozel1 it was running perfect till I took it to fucking Sears just for oil change. The. They cleaned the battery connectors I supposed they unplugged the batt connectors. That's how everything started.
ak99515ak ...thats a catalyst code. P0420. Either the sensors to convert are bad or catalytic converter is bad
clean your idle control valve
Bruh, I've had like 2 cars since this one...
r u wearing a Pittsburgh Penguins hat?
Bill Torbett Yep. Go Pens!
Go eat a ice cream sandwich! 😂😂🤣🤣 Funny
I have a vw polo 1.9 TDI would this procedure be helpful for me
qendrese bytyci Worth a shot. The critical step is leaving the idle alone after the reset.
Did the car not start before the reset ?
no, it started fine. it had a wonky idle, and stalled when slowing as mentioned.
Mine just cranks
@@Chazwozel1 you said you put a new battery! That’s the only reason I tried your method!
Dtc c1422 @ c1431 my car says these two codes. What does this mean
Master Cylinder Pressure Sensor Zero Point High Malfunction
www.suimpreza.com/products/DTC-C1431-AT-ABNORMAL-348
You need a new camera
Yea as if
Alicia Silverstone, is that you?!
Dude cut that Music off. Cam barley understand you.
that is not true :)))))
I could of heard you if the radio in the background was turned off.
ok boomer.
Let me show you how to reset your ecu - oh wait I think I'll change the air filter (3 min have now gone by) . . . OK now, to discharge the battery - remove both cables and touch them together for ten seconds . . . .WHAT??? that would fry your battery! Bye bye!
lol wut? it would discharge your electrical system. Nowhere am I saying to touch the pos to the neg while connected to the battery. That would short out the battery. In fact at 3:14 I specifically say not to put anything near the battery. Get the wax out your ears, son.
It didn’t work and you talk tooooo much! Geez
Does this also works on a 2010 Audi A4 Quattro ???
because I'm having a lot of headache with mine
please let me know
