This is really cool because I was at this race. Kahne absolutely had the field covered until he blew a tire with about 60 to go. I guess it's fitting that I went to the race where he finally got his first win the next year at Richmond.
Dave, I can't thank you enough for this! I was in the hospital when this aired back in 2004 and I only saw Newman's track record run. Is there any possibilities of any other qualifying sessions coming from you?
I was in hospital for a long time and watching these kept me going, so big thanks to Dave. Whatever he uploads, we will all enjoy watching, and I'm sure I speak for us both, we will just look forward to getting the notifications and be appreciative when he does. Hope you're well now and not been back to hospital in the last couple of years.
Too bad they didn't include a tachometer reading in the "Pace Chase", too. I'd be curious to see what those cars were turning; they were absolutely SCREAMING at the end of the straightaways. Music to my ears 😊
Wow.. that SPEED intro. Was Channel 62 in my area and I loved every show. SPEED was the true primetime TV for motorsports.
Pretty eerie to hear them talking so much about Hendrick's legacy and the team pride, considering the tragedy that would come next week.
I miss these cars. They looked faster and sounded faster. The ride height made them look so hard to drive with them bouncing around.
it looks brutal on the back straightaway
They had 800 horsepower back then. Now they took half of it out.
Very true. The Chargers looked awesome :]
by then it was around 950 or so @@sandiegotrafficlightstrain354

I miss that backstretch camera shot NBC had back then. It was awesome.

Sorry to hear that. The possibility diminishes the more I get asked for more qualifying sessions.
+Dave W That's understandable though. I was just curious lol cause seeing these again brings back so many good memories for me.

@@MrMiD.Life.Crisis I only go to the hospital for blood work and that's not bad.
theres more people in the stands for qualifying back then than there are for the races now
38:28 Ryan Newman
The cars looked faster.Sounded faster. Bouncing down the backstretch. Cutting it cold at the start/finish line for a plug check. Gone forever.
