He had the best car the entire week. Even Tony says at the end. “We were just happy to run with him this entire race, but when he wanted to pull the pin he pulled it”. The only chance anyone had at this car was if the run in with the 97 actually would have damaged it. People stupidly believe this was rigged cause after Tony passed him, Jr. was content to ride around in the lead pack the entire rest of the race until after finals pit stops so once he got the lead it was over. No one would stupidity say that crap if he led 150 laps like he could have.

It kinda disappoints me that people like to call this race boring. It was a really interesting race. The tires were really wearing which means handling was a big deal, Dale jr trying to beat Stewart onto pit road during the final stop, scott wimmer taking 2 tires to try to win it, and the two best cars battling for the win. Not to mention lap traffic kinda playing a factor. I feel like besides junior winning the race this race is really underappreciated.

“But Allen as you were talking about, Many fans will tell you the greatest moment in nascar racing came more recently than that, when the late Dale Earnhardt sr, won his first and only Daytona 500, 6 years ago today, February 15,1998”
This quick small history lesson from Bill is still bone chilling.

Another note, I always felt bad for Junior when he won it seemed like his father was always brought up in comparison. You could see how uncomfortable it made him feel I think. He changed the subject to the tires. Always been a huge fan of Junior's, was so damn excited that day, hell I was happy the whole year because of this one win, plus the 4 or 5 others that came after. Wonder how it would have gone if he would've kept Tony Sr as his CC for the next few years? Another crazy thing, 10 yrs later, with a new team, a new generation of car, and with another great CC, he wins it again, and had another great season with 4 or 5 wins.

Several years ago you did a replay of the 2001 Daytona 400 and allowed drivers, team owners, and fans to live tweet as the race was rebroadcast. Please do that again. It was the most creative thing done by NASCAR in a long time and helped connect old and new fans alike!

blocking warnings, I guess those went out the window. I've always liked Stewart, I miss watching him on Sundays, but I remember how much it would piss him off when someone would do a block on him lol. Nah we are all a little double sided I think. Love these old races. 1 more week until the 2022 Daytona 500 and cant wait to see how the next gen cars do.

1:30:16 You watch enough of these old races, and realize that Sterling was always critical of the aero package whenever he got caught in the big one. XD In 1999 he was asking for a bigger spoiler, then in 2001 he complained about the wicker, and then in 2003 he wanted the wicker back xD

    • @mikeclark7026

      Legal for NASCAR, yes.
All 43 cars in this race were illegal. I promise you that. One reason Jimmy was so good is because Chad would cheat on something minor, purposed get caught, and then go balls to the wall with cheating once he had to go to the back of the field. That’s what this series is, cheating.
