I am so so so so excited!!!!!! Love this race, it’s been 15 years since I’ve seen this race in good quality.
I CANT WAIT
the 2004 upload wasn't in HD while NBC shown us a HD Version of it a couple of years ago. So just don't get too disappointed if this isn't in full 16:9 HD
The Iceberg this will most likely be in standard def, I’m sure if NASCAR asked for the HD version from the broadcaster they wouldn’t be told “no”.
They should make more rare HD full races because not everyone had HD back in the mid 2000s
Most underrated Daytona 500 there is in my opinion. I can't remember such a star-studded finish with Gordon vs. DEI and Stewart and the (fake 04 champ) getting involved. The plate races from 2003 to 2007 always being dominated by Gordon (HMS)/DEI/Stewart was the peak of plate racing.
The command to fire engines by Matthew McConaughey at 6:00 is easily one of the best of all time, and there’s certainly been a lot of them since.
Golden era of nascar. I miss seeing Tony Stewart, Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson battle it out. Those guys are absolute legends. My fav was the 48, my dad liked the 20
Same, except swap Johnson with Jr.
There's some of the old guard left like Kyle Bush now it's buescher bell Larson Bowman Byron and more
I miss watching Gordon and the #24.
NASCAR needs it's own version of the WWE network and have all these races, documentaries, and interviews in one app. It's amazing to see races from back then. These kids need to know who the legends are and the history of NASCAR so they can respect it
I’ve been saying this for years now. NASCAR is hogging all their content and potential content for no reason.
oh yeah, because kids don’t have any desire as to why their parents say “smh I remember when nascar was good” and YT doesn’t exist
@@Carshtime that’s stupid RUclips doesn’t have ever race in good quality like this if they have it on RUclips it’s crap. I would pay an app to have every race and to watch the races live I don’t have TV so I have to watch it on RUclips.
Yep I'm currently watching every single Daytona 500 since 1959 so I can respect NASCAR when I go to the Daytona 500
Those large front noses led to some of the greatest plate racing ever. From 2002_2007 was a fun time to watch Nascar, lots of passing.
this race literally ended 24 hours before i was born that's why i was a huge Gordon fan for so long
For how long? For a 5 years? You are youngster.
Nice, Tyrone.
@@cloudpxl But Gordon retired in 2015, so this youngster was 10 at that period of time. So it is makes me wonder, about what long time fan support this kid is talking about?
@@loutenant9480 yeah i wasnt a fan of him for long and didnt really understand how good gordon actually was until 2014 when he started dominating again and yes i turn 15 on the 21st

Finally NASCAR uploads a 2000s race in HD. Worth the wait I'd say 🏁
I can hear The Iceberg celebrating from here
And I’ll be up watching this race as it premieres too 😁
@@TheIceberg 😆
@@TheIceberg hey it's you!
His comment celebrating the video is literally in earshot 3 comments up from yours lol.
This would be the first Daytona 500 without Terry Labonte and the last without Denny Hamlin
First one with Kyle Busch
MetraBNSF117 last one with Rusty Wallace
Your point?
Streater S. Wtf, he’s just stating a fact.
Tdecenso79 who asked
Jaret is gonna be real happy about this one
I am Carnation, I really really am
What In Carnation? Me too
Me 3
Why do i see you everywhere?!?
15 years later and Jimmie Johnson is the only one still in the same exact car number and team.
Not for much longer unfortunately.
Wow never thought about that
Jeff Gordon has also been the only number
@@Paulstar8004 Jeff Gordon was not racing in 2020
@@vidmasterK1 inow hes not but hes had 24 when hes known famous with Hendrick
This was the first Daytona 500 I ever saw live on TV and my favorite driver Jeff Gordon getting his 3rd Daytona 500 win and second straight Daytona win was an absolute amazing thing to watch! No doubt my favorite Jeff Gordon win!
Jeff Gordon was always up in the front no matter what race, he was a damn good driver
Yes he was
People would hate on Jeff Gordon so much in those days but just look at how pure this is look at that celebration
Peak NASCAR right here, no doubt one of the best races of all time.
Ooh - you guys are in for a treat with this one. Kudos, NASCAR.
And in HD too!

Damn 15 16 years ago. U love Jeff gordon i watched him win this race live on TV and met him a week later at the next race. I was only 7. Hes such a great driver and analyst now. I love Jeff gordon and I love nascar. I'm happy I have gotten to drive one of them and support the series. Ots amazing. JG 93 wins 4 championships 3 daytona 500 wins. Amazing.

NASCAR on Fox: This will be Mark Martin’s final Daytona 500.
Mark Martin in 2007: allow me to reintroduce myself
You mean '06?
@@tailsnascarfan93 I guess that too 🤷♂️ HOW MANY TIMES DID MARK MARTIN SAY HE'D RETIRE
@@marksherrill3686 I don't remember the exact number. He came back in '06, '09-'11, then ACTUALLY retired in 2013.
@@tailsnascarfan93 I swear he's still racing right now no?

I’m so happy that they’re premiering my favorite NASCAR race on my birthday! Thank you NASCAR!
Unfortunately I won’t be able to watch it during the premiere but I’ll watch later at night.
Love the camera shots that include the grandstands in the background of the racing. Never really see shots like that anymore. They're always so zoomed in on the cars.
Watching this brought back all kinds of memories. Miss those days.
2:29:48 Listen: "Turn 4! Calamity Corner!"
Poor Mike Joy, didn't have his mic on.
I always wondered why the guy up there sounded like Mike... lol.
Wow Great job for catching that
2005. One of my favourite Daytona 500 of all time apart from many others.
2005 was such an awesome year for NASCAR racing
Yup. More people attended and watched NASCAR in 2005 than any other year in its existence. Coincidentally, 2005 was my first year watching too! What a time to be alive.
@@Thedearster me too
@Nicholas TV hey man, do I know you?
@JessGate-ng3wy In 2005 my family got rid of cable and the only thing interesting on Sundays during the day would be NASCAR. That's how I started watching. I still vividly recall my first race. Jeff Gordon won the fall race at Martinsville. And Tony Stewart talked trash about Greg Biffle in the post interview. Will never forget it!
WHAT A RACE. WHAT A FINISH. Thank you NASCAR for letting us see it again. WOW.
I was at that race and I was sitting pit side
I was only 7 but it was a huge thrill being at the Great American Race and being part of something special like this!
The last time I actually knew all the drivers. Now they change more than the colors on Gordon's flames
I wish the caution wouldn't have come out with three to go, it could've potentially been legendary to see Jr and Jeff battle it out for the 500
Well it’s nice to see a race shot in 16:9 from back then. Very happy to see this uploaded as compared to the standard 4:3 ratio. Props to you NASCAR for this gem.
This takes me back to my childhood days when nascar was exciting to watch I stayed glued to the TV when it came on, this was the golden era of nascar hearing tony Stewart Jeff Gordon and Jimmy Johnson as well as dale Earnhardt Jr they knew how to make races back then worth watching, if I missed any other drivers them too!
Man this was peak. It ain’t the same no more
@@gabrielforero9007 I agree 100%
43:40 I will never get tired of that camera angle during the crank it up segment. music!
I was 4 when this race happened. It's pretty cool that I can just go back and watch all the races that I missed as a kid.
Full grandstands, full field, cool looking/sounding cars, and great racing. The good ole days aside from the Chase.
24:29 The beginning of Bobby Labonte's disastrous season. As a Bobby Labonte fan it still saddens me to this day watching that engine blow.
I miss everything about racing during that generation. The sound of those cars were amazing the ability to pass. It was just different and no stages
Stages were made to stop the boring 100+ lap green flag runs that can happen
@@GeneWagner-wl7od I know why they were made but they take out so much strategy now green flag pit stops are pretty much gone. The changing of the points systems made the drivers more cautious during the long runs. Nobody took chances because a bad points day would hurt your chances of making the chase or playoffs.
Can’t believe this was over 16 years ago! Feels weird that I can name off more drivers from this race than I can from a current Cup race.
Those last 5 laps were amazing! Those cars looked like they were getting faster and faster!
The quality of this 500 is awesome
Best command in nascar history !!!!! And the most viewed daytona 500 in history and who wins ? Jeff Gordon OH YEA!!!!!

The iceberg's favorite race
who?
Damn Jason Leffler that’s a name I haven’t heard in a while... RIP... who knew Denny Hamlin would be driving the iconic Fedex #11 today, in the colors of Leffler too... RIP
19 years later and I'm still getting exited I miss JEFF GORDON
So thankful NASCAR uploading these older races 🙏🙏🙏🙏👏👏👏 KEEP EM COMING
Honestly probably my favorite race ever... Thanks NASCAR!!!
Man to be in one of those crowds must have been electric
2002-2006 is golden era of nascar for me.
I'm so glad they're uploading this one!
Why cant nascar announcers today have the same enthusiasm as back then.
I miss racing like this
I think 2005 and 2007 are my favorite years of NASCAR
Truly one of the best Nascar races ever. All of the greats in that era battling hard for the win in the biggest race of the year. Doesn't get much better than this one. An unbelievably intense last 20 laps.
2005 marked the 2nd time in history the Daytona 500 was aired in high definition. 2005 was also the first full season in which every NASCAR Cup & Xfinity race was televised in HD (FOX did the 720p, which they still do as of 2020, & NBC/TNT used the 1080i format)
Kids today will never know how nice these races were and how the race was amazing and had lots of fame- a fellow 16 yo
I cant wait!! : D This was one of those races where everything came together and it was an instant classic
This is fantastic racing, this year really got the balance right between raw speed and tight racing. I wish Dodge would come back!
This would've been the first Daytona 500 I was alive for, woah
"Mark Martin in his final 500 appearance"

19 years later, William Byron has his 24 car brings the Daytona 500 chequered flag home once again 😊
Great race to watch. Funny that now Jeff is doing the race commentary, nice to see him race.
In my opinion this is definitely in the running for too 5 Daytona 500s
They had insane racing at the end, without having to tear up a bunch of cars
I also liked the way it ended in the sunset
God these cars sound sooooo good🤤🤤🤤
Jeff Gordon fan and this was my first NASCAR race
This feels so surreal.
Is anyone going to mention how Kevin Lepage brought an (almost) unsponsored #37 car to 9th place?

Sure as hell don't seem like this was already 15 years ago...
I know right?
I love the energy Mathew uses. It really gets you hyped for the race.
This was peak nascar for me
I think this was one of the first races I ever watched, I was 4 years old.
Amazing quality! Thanks @NASCAR
No stages, i love it!
An amazing race and rare one where the best car actually won the race.
Jeff Gordon had the best car in testing, qualifying practice & twin 150s. And was one of a few cars that could consistently challenge for the lead, especially on the outside line.
It’s a shame that Michael Waltrip had his engine blow up, because he had the second best car. He would have been able to give Jeff a legit challenge at the end of the race.
Many actually believe tony and mikeys car was better than jeffs lol a joke huh they all were pretty equal
@Jimmy’s Model Trains who won tho🧐🧐🤔
@Jimmy’s Model Trains tony led the most laps but if you go bk and watch this race jeff and mikey led about the same laps and when jeff was up front of tony or mikey they never passed he neither it was whoever was up front after pits btw those 3 who was gona lead neither could pass eachother when in lead until jeff showed his car fully at the end and won!!! That last pass jeff made on the high side to pass jr was such a strong move but yea his car was shit😂😂
@Jimmy’s Model Trains Mikey & Jeff had equally strong cars.
Both cars could run the top & bottom to make consistent passes… Jeff won the race with a pass on the outside lane, which he had been trying for the last 25 laps of the race.
Once Tony got shook from the lead, he couldn’t make passes on the outside like Jeff or Mikey.
@@mofoprada it was a beautiful outside pass for the win wasn’t’ it
One of my all time favorite 500s, this race was action packed
47:52 Nascar making memes back in 2005
*Shish....*
That 24 paint scheme is the goat
What a finish! Just as good as I remembered it lol
This was one of the Best Presented TV Races ever. Despite missing the Very Start of the 2 Pileups in Turn 4. NASCAR at its very peak! Not to mention the Quality of Drivers and Teams and Sound of the Cars with the Tailpipes out both Sides. Hope the New Car can emulate this package!
I miss this excitement for a race
Watching those last 10 laps were crazy!!!!
Thanks nascar for sharing this nostalgic gem💜🔮
This is fun of watching the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series 2005 Daytona 500 full race on RUclips.
This was modern nascar at its peak
The nostalgia hits on this one.
12:23 Right in front is the car that beat Martin in 07, right behind is the car he drove and came so close...coincidence?! I THINK NOT
Hearing Matthew put his soul into that sounds so cool
Probably my favorite Mike Joy call ever.
I’d love for y’all to upload the 2005 UAW Ford 500 at Talladega...Dale Jarrett’s last win
UAW Ford 500*. UAW GM Quality 500 was at Charlotte(formerly Lowe’s) Motor Speedway.
AllaboutheWaves that’s right! Lol I remember UAW and 500 I just finished highlights of the 2002 race where Jamie won and it was fresh in my head lol
Fantastic! Thank you, NASCAR. Any word on the 2008 Daytona 500?
The Iceberg loves the 2005 Daytona 500 and I'm sure he's real excited for that race. Also NASCAR, can you please upload the 2001 Pepsi 400 at Daytona, 2005 Brickyard 400, 1997 Pepsi 400, 2004 Pepsi 400, 2003 EA Sports 500, 2002 UAW GM Quality 500, 1992 Winston All Star Race, 1997 Daytona 500, 1990 Daytona 500, 2001 Brickyard 400, and the 2004 Coca Cola 600? 1:22:37 Rest in Heaven. Not only John Andretti. 1:23:33 Jason Leffler who drove the 11 car before Denny Hamlin. May these two RIP.

I’m going to the Daytona 500 this week and can’t wait😀
DW: alot of the time you don't wanna hear what the drivers have to say
without missing a beat - Larry mac: BEEN THERE DONE THAT!
classic! hah
I might be only 15 years old but Cars the movie is what makes me respect NASCAR. I'm not really in the scene but is Nascar popular now as it was in around 2005
Unfortunately no. The 2010s have not been kind to Nascar. While races still draw in around 40-60k people to the track, with a couple million more watching at home, it's nowhere near where it was in '05.
43:17 and 1:19:33 Crank It UP!
was here at the age of 7. never watched it. thank you! fan to this day
