I'm only halfway through this video (and I can't remember where he ended up qualifying for this race), but regardless, a Ryan Newman qualifying run back in the day was always a treat to watch. The car looked extremely well-balanced and WICKED fast through those corners.
cctitansfan And Derrike Cope and his new team are going to try and run the full schedule and right now there is a chance with all the leased charters going back to there owners that 41 cars could be running full time, plus the 4-5 planninga partial schedule
im just happy someone took the time to record all of these sessions. i have a couple races from 06 and 04 recorded on dvd. its literally a time capsule since this is what most of us had and used back then and you get to re experience what we used to have. it holds up pretty good in my opinion even though vhs can be crackly sonetimes due to the tape having physical flaws such as dust or a thick spot or something silly that would impact the recording and playback quality.
That 01 was nadeaus team. God i wish Richmond never happened. I got so sick of Nemechek taking over Nadeaus rides. Happened twice in 2 years. Had nadeau not got screwed at hms or had richmondb03 never happened nadeau wouldve won more 3x many races nemechek lucked into. He walked around like that 01 had always been his. That was JNs damn team. He wouldve ran laps around Nemechek.
58 Cars! I remember towards the end of the season they would have as many as 62 cars trying to get in! Most were extra R&D cars or start up teams
Pretty amazing to see Bass Pro Shops sponsoring Truex back then AND nowadays.
Really somber seeing the "Always in Our Hearts" hoods on the Hendrick cars.
Larry talking about teams experimenting with things like a science project. THIS is exactly what I miss about old nascar.

Michael Waltrip Was On Border Line Missing The Show Here In 2004 Just Like 2006
The qualifying session that pretty much gave birth to the top 35 rule after Riggs and Wimmer didn't qualify.
Which is a shame. If 60 cars show up to make the show then some big guys might be going home.
I miss big fields of cars trying to qualify.Made it much more fun to watch, but its likely not gonna happen any time soon sadly.

58 cars to make 43 spots.... and wow 14 years later 39 out of 40 sometimes.... damn NASCAR is losing it big time
I read on Jayski in 2002 early on that NASCAR had to ask teams to show up just to get a full field. Not just a modern problem
Can we please bring back 750HP engine and the xpipe i love the scream of the engines from this era
mid 2000's atlanta qualifying had a special feel to it, one of those Q sessions you got pumped up for
Yes agree
this was a very sad qualifying session...lots of sad stories
Thank you! 14 years worth the wait.

Weren't these shot in HD? Why does the video look so damn old. I know it was 17 years ago but it looks like it was 30 years ago.
They didn't really push the HD thing until the Chase in 06
Because VHS
